Sæbygaar Forest Chapel and Crematorium: the last journey in the light of the forest
The theme for this thesis is a Chapel and Crematorium in Sæbygård Skov near Sæby in Vendsyssel – the northern part of Denmark. The project takes its starting point in the creating of a special and meaningful experience in relation to the death and the human’s last journey. The Chapel and Crematorium establish dignity and intimacy around the death and creates a narrative about the last journey. Religion in Denmark is marked by pluralism and is a multi-ethnic society. The intention behind the Chapel and Crematorium in Sæbygård Skov is to address this multi-ethnic society. The location in the forest creates an entirety between experience and atmosphere. The scenic context and the genius loci are incorporated in the Chapel and Crematorium and affect the visual expression and atmosphere. This creates a connection between landscape, space and atmosphere which altogether generates the settings for the last goodbye. Daylight and artificial light has been the academic focal point throughout the thesis. In the project light has been used to create atmosphere by using it to emphasise construction and materiality. This gives the Chapel and Crematorium texture and depth. Light as an architectural effect fosters interaction between spatiality, functions and atmosphere in the Chapel and Crematorium, which captures the last farewell and the genius loci
Polyphenolers hæmmende effekt på fedtsyresyntesen: Inhibition of fatty acid synthesis by polyphenols
This project is a study of the audience and reception to the campaign Vi har brug for dit blod, mand! The campaign is aimed at young men at the age of 17 to 25, and consist of a poster and an article. The famous duo, Peter Falktoft and Esben Bjerre, are ambassadors for the campaign. The study is based on interviews with representatives of the target group. This empirical material is used to form a general knowledge about the target group and their relation to blood donation, and to examine their view on the poster and the article. Three theorists support the analysis: Sepstrup, Schutz and Schrøder. Preben Sepstrup on the five features of the receiver is used as a guideline to cover relevant themes in the audience analysis. Alfred Schutz contributes to define blood donations relevance to the target group, and Kim Schrøder’s media reception subsidizes with identification of the target group’s perception of the poster and article. The results show that the target group was influenced by the personal relationship between the ambassadors, Esben and Peter. Furthermore they emphasise that the motivation to give blood increases if a friend need it. However, the lack of information has a negative effect on them. They especially seek practical information, for example on how long the blood collection takes. In future development of the campaign, it is important to implement practical information. Many informants finds it cumbersome to donate blood, which should be met with information. Furthermore, it is important for the sender, GivBlod, to meet their audience on the social media, since it is a big part of the everyday. This project is a study of the audience and reception to the campaign Vi har brug for dit blod, mand! Mediated relations - the use of smartphones among youths
The project’s research interest originates as a reaction to the on-going debate that takes place in the media and among researchers and scholars wherein polarizing views on the relationship between and long-term effects of technology, humans and society are being argued. In this case especially youths’ so called ‘excessive use’ of the smartphone and social media are being criticized and articulated as a social and psychological problem that in result will affect them negatively, making them emotionally stunted and unequipped to further their development in becoming law abiding citizens that can live up to the norms and requirements of society. To challenge this point of view and gain insight as to why this view came to dominate the discourses of youth problems, this paper researches the understandings and experiences of conditions for young people’s lives understood and articulated by the youths themselves. By talking to them about how their social relationships are practiced without and through the technology we attempt to align the paper’s understandings with those of youth researcher Sven Mørch, who advocates the exploring of their experienced living conditions in order to comprehend their intentions and actions. In this case the smartphone becomes a collective tool for young people to deal with their lives, seek stability in their many abrupt networks (that takes place across time and space) and ultimately in their process of becoming. In order to understand the significance of the smartphone and the social networking site Facebook have for young people’s social relationships, and how the use of the technology can be understood a combination of a social constructionist understanding and an extended Actor-Network Theory (ANT) approach was applied. This was done to capture the workings of how different actors – these being both human and non-human - intermingle, ultimately creating hybrid relations and networks. It is concluded that the smartphone and social media together are so intermingled with the young subject that one cannot transcend it and separate oneself from the hybrid relation and the workings of networks they are effected by. This observation is one that showcase the strength of combining ANT and a social constructionist approach to discourse as yet another actor within the network. By doing this it became possible to understand the implicit understandings and the use of normative discourses of things and phenomena that are naturalized among the youths when asked about what role the smartphone and social media play when practising friendship and networks.<br/
ITQ subscales:SPSS syntax for score conversion and DIF-equating after Rasch analysis
The SPSS syntax provides is concerned with conversions of the scores from the International Trauma Questionnare (ITQ) following ietm analysis by Rasch measurement models. More specifically, it provides: 1) Conversion of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) raw scores to weighted maximum likelihood estimates of person parameter estimates adjusted for DIF as well as DIF-equating of the raw score for differential item functioning (DIF) relative to gender and time since trauma. 2) Conversion of disturbances in self-organisation (DSO) raw scores to weighted maximum likelihood estimates of person parameter estimates. The syntax is based on results reported in Tables 6 and 7 in: Nielsen, T., Elklit, A., Vang, M. L., Brødsgaard Nielsen, S. Auning-Hansen, M. & Palic, A. (2023).
In this project we look into the implementation of a new it-system called Sundhedsplatformen within the danish healthcare system. The it-system is developed by an american software company and it will take over from 30 different independent it-systems which are currently used in danish hospitals. By the end of 2017 all hospitals in two large regions of Denmark will have implemented the new platform. We focus on one of the first hospitals to go-live with the platform which happens on the 21st May this year. We look into the period before the actual go-live, when the implementation is in its preliminary stage and before the healthstaff has started using the new platform. Our purpose is to investigate how the nurses on this first hospital experience the implementation of the new platform during this preliminary stage and how these experiences relate to the intentions and hopes of the hospital management. In order to do so, we have interviewed two members of the hospital management and five members of staff who are all nurses on the same ward of the hospital. Our theoretical point of view comes from the critical psychology. In addition to this we include theory on liminality. On this basis we have found out that there is a difference between how the nurses experience the implementation, and the hospital managements hopes and intentions of the implementation. The different standpoints of all the participants lead to different possibilities for participating in the implementation. In this liminal period of the implementation the nurses experience insecurity and inaction. The management on the other hand, do not experience the same insecurity in the liminal period, as they are engaged with fulfilling the goals of the implementation. Finally, some of the intentions of the management turn out to have the opposite effect. This is due to a rational perspective of the implementation, which does not leave room for incorporating conflicts. This leads to the nurses experiencing a removal of their responsibility.AbstractIn this project we look into the implementation of a new it-system called Sundhedsplatformen within the danish healthcare system.
