The Story of a Forbidden and Censored Book: Early Editions of Evliya celebi's Seyahatname
Evliya celebi's Seyahatname (Book of Travels) did not receive much attention until the nineteenth century: From this century onwards, it gradually became a popular work thanks to, first, the Muntehabat composed by Hammer in English and then to a compilation of excerpts in Turkish. Encouraged by this interest, Ahmed Cevdet, the owner of Ikdam newspaper, set out to publish the ten volumes of the Seyahatname. Although incomplete, censored and sometimes incorrect, he managed to publish the first six volumes between 1896-1901. Because of the complaints against the Seyahatname, he then had to stop printing and was obliged to lock the printed volumes in storehouses. Although both the Muntehabat-i Evliya celebi and the first six volumes that Ahmed Cevdet published were banned by government, they helped expanding the Seyahatname's readership. This article discusses the Ottoman Turkish editions of Evliya celebi's Seyahatname, which were instrumental in conveying the work to large masses and also effectively forming a negative public opinion about both the work and its author
The Question of the Transfer of Evliya Celebi's Seyahatnarne (Book of Travels.) to the Topkapi Palace Library
Although so many important studies have been carried out about the Seyahatname (Book of Travels) of Evliya Celebi until now, they haven't been benefited from Turkish archives during these studies sufficiently. Correspondingly, it is clear that lots of problems can not be clarified without using these sources. In this study, on the basis of estates, new findings have been established about how and when author's edition of Seyahatname passed to Topkapi Palace Library. Besides with the help of these estates it has been revealed that Morali Besir Aga who was one of the chief harem eunuchs possessed the author's edition and they were transported to the Palace by confiscatio

Businesses that value their employees also pay some effort to create a bond between the company and the employee. The concept of organizational commitment, which is essential for the participation of employees in their businesses and their effective performance, is of great importance. Organizational commitment is a positive phenomenon that increases the performance of employees. The employee who is bonded with the organization will have better relationships with colleagues within the organization and the organization itself and he/she will perform better. The phenomenon of loneliness, which is another factor affecting the performance of employees in the business, affects the reflections of individuals on daily and working life, environmental, organizational, psychological and sociological factors. When the literature is analyzed, basically two ingredients that affect loneliness have been identified. These are two types of loneliness in the workplaces which can be categorized as social loneliness and emotional loneliness. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of loneliness of the employees in the accommodation establishments provided by their organizational commitment. The relationship between the three sub-dimensions of organizational commitment and the two sub-dimensions of employee loneliness in the workplace were examined
Bu ihtiyaçlartemiz su, sağlık (tedavi ve psikolojik destek) ve yiyecek ihtiyaçlarının yanı sıra başlıca ihtiyaçlarından biri olan barınma ihtiyacıdır.ABSTRACTIn general definition, disasters cause psychological, social and economical loses which effects daily lifetime and humane activities and its source could be natural, technological or people based disasters. We deal with to don’t know the exact time, place and type of disaster and it makes a big problem for us. Because of that, we should be aware of the main needs of disaster victims after disaster. The main needs of disaster victims should be supplied to turn them back to their daily routine. These supplements are besides the clean water , health (both as treatment and psychological support) and food, the main need is shelter for disaster victims.Sheltering is one of the most important needs both for our country and for the world in terms of needs after disasters. For this reason, like to don’t know the type of disaster also the time and geography of the disaster can not be known. So that, a material which should be resistant to each kind of weather conditions should use as sheltering elements
Effect of carbon black and/or elastomer on thermoplastic elastomer-based blends and composites
30th International Conference of the Polymer-Processing-Society (PPS) -- JUN 06-12, 2014 -- Cleveland, OHWOS: 000366584700111It was aimed to investigate the effect of carbon black and/or elastomer on the electrical conductivity and mechanical properties of thermoplastic elastomer (TPE). Carbon black (CB) and ethylene-glycidyl methacrylate (E-GMA) were used as additives in the main matrix. The blends and composites were characterized in terms of their electrical conductivity and mechanical properties. CB concentration was varied as 0.5, 1, 3 and 5 wt.%. In order to modify the surface of CB, paraffinic oil and silane coupling agents were used. E-GMA was added to the matrix at 5, 10, 20, and 30 wt.% concentration. In order to prepare ternary composites, 5 wt.% of modified or unmodified carbon black and 10 wt.% of E-GMA were mixed with the TPE matrix. The tensile strength, impact strength and elongation at break values of TPE/CB composites decreased while elastic moduli and electrical conductivities increased with increasing CB concentration. It was observed that the surface modification of CB did not alter the tensile properties significantly. However, impact strength of the composites improved upon modification. For TPE/E-GMA blends, E-GMA addition enhanced the tensile strength and impact strength values of neat TPE. Nevertheless, elongation at break values began to decrease at 10 wt% and higher concentrations of E-GMA. It was observed that CB was more effective than the E-GMA on the mechanical properties of the ternary composites. The addition of 10 wt.% E-GMA increased the electrical resistivity and impact strength values of the ternary composites, as expected.Polymer Proc Soc, TA, Saint Gobain, PolyOne, Univ Akron Res Fdn, Teknor Apex, Thermo Sci, Xplore, Anton Paar USA, Eastman, AGPA, Lubrizol, Ctr Layered Polymer Syst, DSM, C W Brabender, LORD, Univ Akron, Coll Polymer Sci & Polymer Engn, Mettler Toledo, Univ Akron, Netzsch, Good Yea

Role of formulation additives on the properties of thermoplastic polyether ester elastomer-based and carbon fabric-reinforced multilayer composites
© The Author(s) 2022.In this study, multilayer carbon fabric-reinforced composites (CFRC) were manufactured by compression molding technique with the combination of carbon fabric and thermoplastic polyether ester elastomer (TPEE) composites. The TPEE-based polymer layers were prepared as binary, ternary, and quaternary composites using carbon black (CB) or N-(β-aminoethyl)-γ-aminopropyl-trimethoxysilane (AEAP) modified carbon black (mCB), ethylene-glycidyl methacrylate copolymer (EGMA) and/or paraffin oil. The effects of formulation additives on multilayer CFRC were investigated in terms of their mechanical, electrical resistivity, electrically stimulated shape memory properties and morphologies. Tensile modulus of neat TPEE included multilayer CFRC increased slightly with the addition of both mCB and oil to TPEE. The highest impact strength of 112.2 kJ/m2 was obtained for TPEE-mCB-EGMA-Oil containing CFRC multilayer composites, which was 30% higher than CFRC with neat TPEE. All modified and reinforced CFRC exhibited higher electrical conductivities than neat TPEE containing CFRC. Electrically triggered bending test showed that combination of TPEE, mCB, EGMA and oil together with carbon fabric in multilayer structure revealed 80% shape recovery ratio within less than 2 min

Essays on education and environmental economics
The first paper explores the question of what the long-term outcomes of AP are – do students perform better in college and the labor market? To answer this question, I study the two phases of staggered rollout of the Advanced Placement (AP) Incentives Programs in Texas which aimed to increase AP utilization. The 1997 pilot phase included a small group of high schools, the Scaled-up phase expanded this to half of all Texas high schools in 2001. This setting allows me to ask another question: did this program effectively scale up? Using detailed administrative data for all students in the state of Texas, I separately estimate the impact of the program in each phase. I find a 70% increase in AP Enrollment and a 40% increase in the number of AP courses for the schools which implemented the program before scaling up. College enrollment and graduation increases by 10% and 3%, as well as a 7% increase in wages. In contrast, students enrolled in the schools that adopted the program in the scaled-up phase, saw no improvement in their outcomes. The potential explanation for the disparate effects is that the student demand for the AP courses differed between two treatment arms. The second paper investigates the impact of the closure and subsequent transformation of Test Preparation Schools (TPSs) into private schools on the educational landscape in Turkey, focusing on the effects on public schools. TPSs have traditionally provided supplementary education aimed at preparing students for competitive university entrance exams, and their presence was notably significant in Turkey prior to their closure in 2014 due to government reforms. This study examines how the sudden influx of private schools, resulting from the TPSs’ transformation, influenced public school enrollment and educational outcomes. Using a difference-in-differences methodology, the study compares public schools located near former TPSs to those farther away before and after the reform. Findings from Ankara reveal a doubling of private high schools and a decline in public school enrollment in areas with pre-existing TPSs, particularly in higher-income neighborhoods. While there was no significant improvement in public school test scores, the results suggest shifts in student distribution and school dynamics. Urban water scarcity is an important social and economic concern, particularly as climate change increases the intensity, duration, and frequency of droughts in many regions. We consider whether drought induces changes to water demand and the price elasticity of demand for water that may last beyond a drought’s official end date. If drought shocks prompt long-term changes in water demand behavior, and these changes occur at broad geographic scale, they could have important implications for modeling adaptive responses to water scarcity. We assemble two novel datasets on residential water demand and pricing in the United States to test empirically for effects of drought on water demand and price elasticity. We perform our analysis with aggregate quantity, price, and drought data, accounting for endogenous prices under increasing-block water tariffs and using both average and marginal prices in estimating water demand functions. Results are consistent with the hypothesis that households may become less price-sensitive after exposure to drought. However, we find no systematic evidence of long-run, drought-related reductions in water demand itself.Economic
