    A new active clamping non-dissipative snubber for ZVS PWM current-fed half-bridge converter

    A new active clamping zero-voltage switching (ZVS) pulse-width modulation (PWM) current-fed half-bridge converter (CFHB) is proposed in this paper. Its active clamping snubber (ACS) can not only absorb the voltage surge across the turned-off switch, but also achieve the ZVS of all power switches. Moreover, it can be applied to all current-fed power conversion topologies and its operation as well as structure is very simple. Since auxiliary switches in the snubber circuit are switched in a complementary way to main switches, an additional PWM IC is not necessary. In addition, it does not need any clamp winding and auxiliary circuit besides additional two power switches and one capacitor while the conventional current-fed half bridge converter has to be equipped with two clamp windings, two ZVS circuits, and two snubbers. Therefore, it can ensure the higher operating frequency, smaller-sized reactive components, lower cost of production, easier implementation, and higher efficiency. The operational principle, theoretical analysis, and design considerations are presented. To confirm the operation, validity, and features of the proposed circuit, experimental results from a 200-W, 24-200Vdc prototype are presented

    P-cadherin expression in gastric carcinoma: its regulation mechanism and prognostic significance

    P-cadherin is a member of the cadherin family and is expressed in several solid tumors. This molecule was recently highlighted with the development of a new targeted compound being studied in a clinical trial on solid tumors. In the present study, we examined the protein and messenger RNA (mRNA) expression status of P-cadherin and its promoter methylation in gastric carcinoma cell lines and tissues. Of the 10 cell lines, 4 were found to express P-cadherin protein and mRNA, and the P-cadherin gene was found to be hypomethylated in its promoter region in these cell lines. Nonneoplastic gastric mucosal tissues from gastric carcinoma patients were negative for P-cadherin protein evaluated by immunohistochemistry and Western blotting and had a methylated P-cadherin promoter region. In carcinoma tissues, 70.8% (749/1058) of cases showed P-cadherin protein expression, and P-cadherin positive cases had a well or moderately differentiated histology according to the World Health Organization classification, intestinal-type histology by Lauren classification, and an earlier pT class. Furthermore, patients with P-cadherin expressing tumors had a favorable prognosis by univariate and multivariate survival analyses. In addition, P-cadherin protein expression was found to be significantly correlated with promoter hypomethylation. In summary, P-cadherin is silenced in nonneoplastic gastric mucosa, and P-cadherin expressing tumors constitute a subset of gastric carcinoma with intestinal-type histology and a favorable prognosis. In addition, our findings suggest that P-eadherin promoter methylation underlies the regulation of its expression. These findings may aid patient selection and the interpretation of P-cadherin targeted therapy and clinical trial results. (C) 2010 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.N

    Weak-coupling to strong-coupling quantum criticality crossover in a Kitaev quantum spin liquid α\alpha-RuCl3_3

    We report an unprecedented quantum criticality crossover representing two different universal scaling behaviors in a Kitaev quantum magnetic material α\alpha-RuCl3_3. α\alpha-RuCl3_3 presents both a symmetry breaking antiferromagnetic order and a long-range entangled topological order of a quantum spin liquid, and thus could be a candidate system for a new universality class involving deconfined fractionalized excitations of the local Z2_2 fluxes and itinerant Majorana fermions. Theoretical analyses on the inelastic neutron scattering and specific heat results demonstrate that Wilson-Fisher-Yukawa-type 'conventional' weak-coupling quantum criticality in high energy scales crosses over to heavy-fermion-type 'local' strong-coupling one in low energy scales. Our findings provide deep insight on how the quantum criticality evolves in fermion-boson coupled topological systems with different types of deconfined fermions.Comment: 14 pages, 11 figure

    General pharmacology studies on beta-domain deleted recombinant factor VIII

    7 beta-Domain deleted recombinant factor VIII (GC-rAHF), newly developed by Korea Green Cross Co., is a novel therapeutic for hemophiliacs and is currently under clinical evaluation. The general pharmacological properties of this drug were evaluated using mice, rats, guinea pigs and rabbits. Intravenous doses of 5 to 500 IU/kg were assayed in several tests to analyze their effects in vivo on various systems. The effect of the substance under study was also tested in vitro on isolated guinea pig ileum preparations at final concentrations of 5 to 50 IU/kg. The result of this study showed that GC-rAHF did not affect general behavior in the Irwin test. Similarly the drug was not found to affect neither normal body temperature nor the spontaneous activity in mice. III addition, it was not found to induce pharmacologically significant alterations of the cardiovascular and respiratory parameters in rats. No effects were observed either in the pentobarbital sodium-induced sleep-induction time and duration, in writhing test or in the test of pentetrazole-induced convulsion. Finally the tested drug did not modify the gastrointestinal motility, acetylcholine or histamine-induced contraction of the isolated guinea pig ileum, nor gastric secretion. The results demonstrated that GC-rAHF has no effects on the central nervous, cardiovascular, respiratory and digestive systems in the doses of 5, 50 and 500 IU/kg in vivo and 5, 10, 50 and 100 IU/kg in vitro.N

    Risk of Psoriasis in Postgastrectomy Gastric Cancer Survivors: A Nationwide Population-Based Cohort Study

    BACKGROUND: Although patients with psoriasis have an increased risk of cancers, little is known about the risk of psoriasis in cancer patients. OBJECTIVE: We aimed to comparatively analyze the incidence and risk factors of psoriasis in gastric cancer patients who underwent gastrectomy and in the general population. METHODS: A nationwide retrospective cohort of 52,608 gastric cancer survivors (2007~2015) was compared to 123,438 matched controls from the general population to estimate the incidence and hazard ratio (HR) of new-onset psoriasis. We also calculated the HRs for psoriasis according to adjuvant cancer treatment, obesity, and vitamin B(12) supplementation in gastric cancer survivors. RESULTS: During a mean follow-up of 6.85 years, 645 of the 52,608 gastric cancer patients developed psoriasis, while 1,806 in the 123,438 matched control group developed psoriasis. Gastric cancer patients had a decreased risk of psoriasis (HR, 0.86; 95% confidence interval, 0.79~0.94), especially those who underwent subtotal gastrectomy. We found that vitamin B(12) supplementation for more than 3 years had an additive effect on decreasing the risk of psoriasis in gastric cancer patients who underwent subtotal gastrectomy. Total gastrectomy, radio/chemotherapy, and obesity did not affect the risk of psoriasis in gastric cancer survivors. CONCLUSION: The incidence of psoriasis is slightly lower in gastric cancer survivors than in the general population. Our results suggest that the development of psoriasis may be reduced by removing the source of systemic inflammation caused by Helicobacter pylori infection through subtotal gastrectomy in gastric cancer survivors
