Józef Hen o Polsce Żydów polskich, której już nie ma, ale wciąż jest (Nowolipie, 1991)
The article discusses Nowolipie – an autobiographical work written by Józef Hen. This prose is a kind of a journey into the past to resurrect and to commemorate it for the author himself and for others. Hen successfully achieves in this text the present of the past effect (R. Koselleck’s term). The analysis presents an interesting interweaving of three narrative layers: the first is focused on the pre-war present of Nowolipie (a part of Warsaw area), the second is connected with the shadow of the Shoah, and the third deals with the self-presentation of the author – a writer and a Polish Jew.The article discusses Nowolipie – an autobiographical work written by Józef Hen. Józef Hen, reżyser – światy niedokończone
The article presents peripeteia connected with Józef Hen’s activity as a film director. And while the writer’s relations with cinema are permanent and diverse (ranging from the role of screenwriter, to being an assistant director, to literary leadership of a film group), Hen was a director only twice: once in a film short story Autobusy jak żółwie (Buses like turtles) in an anthology film Weekendy (Weekends, 1963), and for the second time – as an author of a three-episode TV series Perły i dukaty (Pearls and Ducats, 1965, premiere in 1966). The author of the text traces Hen’s artistic output in the context of film activity of writers-film makers (the so-called scriptwriters’ revolt) in the early 1960s, but also relates it to the writer’s cinephile passion. This particularly refers to the film short story, which is here located in a wide socio-cultural environment associated with the formation of youth culture of the Polish Poeple’s Republic in the period of the “minor stabilization”. Regarding the series of Pearls and Ducats, the author examines the role of television as a medium shaping the poetics and styles of reception of these films. Hen’s work as a film director remains an interesting testimony to the 1960s director’s film worlds, which – although closed – seem to be unfinished. The article presents peripeteia connected with Józef Hen’s activity as a film director. Validation of an automated mite counter for Dermanyssus gallinae in experimental laying hen cages
\ua9 2015, The Author(s). For integrated pest management (IPM) programs to be maximally effective, monitoring of the growth and decline of the pest populations is essential. Here, we present the validation results of a new automated monitoring device for the poultry red mite (Dermanyssus gallinae), a serious pest in laying hen facilities world-wide. This monitoring device (called an “automated mite counter”) was validated in experimental laying hen cages with live birds and a growing population of D. gallinae. This validation study resulted in 17 data points of ‘number of mites counted’ by the automated mite counter and the ‘number of mites present’ in the experimental laying hen cages. The study demonstrated that the automated mite counter was able to track the D. gallinae population effectively. A wider evaluation showed that this automated mite counter can become a useful tool in IPM of D. gallinae in laying hen facilities
