Abstract: The Wade Hall Papers contain materials gathered and produced by this scholar and collector. The bulk of the materials relate to the author Cormac McCarthy and quilts and collecting.Scope and Content Note: The Wade Hall Papers contain materials gathered and produced by this scholar and collector. The bulk of the materials relate to the author Cormac McCarthy, which resulted in the "First Conference on Cormac McCarthy" and led to the publication of Sacred Violence: A Reader's Companion to Cormac McCarthy. The book contains scholarly essays written by different authors regarding McCarthy's writing and includes a contribution by Dr. Hall. The book was edited by Dr. Hall and Rick Wallach, originally published in 1995, and has been reissued in a second edition. Additionally, the collection contains materials gathered and produced by Dr. Hall regarding quilts and collecting. The Wade Hall Quilt Collection is on display at the University of Kentucky.Biographical/Historical Note: A Union Springs, Alabama, native, Dr. Wade Hall wrote numerous works relating to Kentucky, Alabama, and Southern history, including contributing to and editing (along with Rick Wallach) Sacred Violence: A Reader's Companion to Cormac McCarthy, as well as numerous articles, poems, essays, and reviews published in both scholarly and popular publications. Dr. Hall earned a BS from Troy University, a MA from The University of Alabama, and a PhD from the University of Illinois. Dr. Hall taught English and served as an administrator at Bellarmine College in Louisville, Kentucky.Dr. Hall was an avid collector, focusing primarily on items related to Southern history, including an impressive collection of quilts, some of which are now displayed as The Wade Hall Quilt Collection, University of Kentucky and as the Wade Hall and Gregg Swem American Quilts Collection, The University of Alabama. Buffalo City Hall

Located at 65 Niagara Square, the 26 story Art Deco building was completed in 1931 by Dietel Wade & Jones. It is one of the largest and tallest municipal buildings in the United States of America and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The design was by John J. Wade. The friezes were sculpted by Albert Stewart and the sculpture done by Rene Paul Chambellan. Construction was by John W. Cowper Company.
