Koleżanki z Birkenau : esej o pamiętaniu
The friends from the title of this book are a group of female prisoners of KL Auschwitz-Birkenau (1943–1945), whose paths crossed several times during around two years of camp life in Birkenau. At different times they lived in one block of the women’s camp, slept in one bunk, together left Auschwitz to work in the Wolkenburg camp, and several of them escaped together from transport to Dachau, from a freight wagon, at the small German station of Weiden. Together they also survived one of the most beautiful, as they say, periods in their lives – a few months of miraculously regained freedom, spent in Weiden under the protection of the American army. Several of them also took a long, difficult journey home.
Preserved memories of three of these friends – including the Mother of the book’s author, are the central axis of this essay. It presents the process of shaping the way of perceiving the world and the identity of individuals who came across actions aimed to annihilate human beings. They came into contact with the essence of a concentration camp, which was based on depriving people of all rights and even exterminating them.
The approach chosen by the author is the biographical method which focuses on the study of what is individual, related to assessments, values, experiences. It is a book about trying to find an answer to the question of how it happened that some people expressed indescribable cruelty to other people and decided to dehumanize and annihilate them. The book is also about the forces you must find in yourself in order to survive such an experience and start living an ordinary life afterwards.
The author’s intention is to bring the recorded memories of the Friends to a possibly wide audience, to the public sphere and also, or perhaps above all, to the consciousness of those whose way of thinking is far from scientific

Activating Strategies of Managing Students' Learning Process in Chemistry
TITLE: Activating Strategies of Managing Students' Learning Process in Chemistry AUTHOR: Št pán Gabriel DEPARTMENT: Department of Chemistry and Chemistry Education VEDOUCÍ PRÁCE: PhDr. Martin Rusek ABSTRACT This thesis is focused on literature-search evaluation of modern methods applied in chemistry education. Firstly, the development of chemistry education from the beginnings of the Czech schooling system until present is briefly described. Further, currently the most widely discussed methods used in Science education eventually Chemistry were defined based on the analysis of scientific literature and other available electronic resources. These methods are briefly characterized; an evaluation of the possibility of their usage in teaching practice in terms of Czech schools is made not only with regards to the educational reality in schools, but also with respect to the law (Framework Educational Programmes). KEYWORDS: Chemistry teaching, modern teaching methods, constructivism, project-based learning, inquiry-based learning, STEM, STEA
Globalizacja a pogranicze : przypadek szczególny Śląska Cieszyńskiego
Globalisation under the conditions of the ethnocultural borderland assumes a special form. The article illustrates the problem using Cieszyn Silesia, i.e. the Polish and Czech borderland as an example. In this territory the problem of identity of individuals and so- cial groups, who live on the border of many cultures, in constant contact with the „other”, is particularly evident. An intensive exchange process of cultural elements in the course of constant and direct contacts is also characteristic. In this way a specific transborder atmosphere is created, with various cultural, social and economic contacts over the poli- tical borders of the neighbouring states. Cultural syncretism of the inhabitants of such an area and the ability to freely move in both cultural spaces is one of the features of these transborder relations. A change of attitudes, including the shortening of the ethnic distance between both neighbouring national groups, is the result of the „open border” after the accession of Poland and the Czech Republic to the European Union. These phenomena have been favoured by the continuous local border traffic, which leads to transgressive behaviour, i.e. transgressing many existing ethnic, cultural and social barriers. Against this background the author presents a new function of the Polish-Czech border as an im- portant factor linking rather than dividing people
Evaluating Difficulty of Chemistry Textbooks for Vocational Schools
TITLE: Evaluation of the text difficulty of chemistry textbooks for secondary vocational schools AUTHOR: Lucie Vosyková DEPARTMENT: Katedra chemie a didaktiky chemie SUPERVISOR: PhDr. Martin Rusek, Ph.D. ABSTRACT: This thesis builds on previous researches of textbooks for primary, secondary and grammar schools and focuses on the analysis of the text difficulty of chemistry textbooks for secondary vocational schools of non-chemical focus. The aim of this work is to analyse the text difficulty of chemistry textbooks for non-chemical high schools, using the Nestlerova-Prucha-Pluskal method, to compare the text difficulty of chemistry textbooks for non-chemical high schools with primary and secondary school textbooks, and last but not least, to compare the text difficulty of particular chapters of choosen textbooks for primary and secondary schools. The results of the analysis are intended to provide teachers seeking support for their teaching with a possible criteria for a textbook selection. Based on the findings, the five analyzed series of textbooks can be divided into two groups. The first group consists of textbooks published by Scientia and Fortuna, whose text difficulty is at an appropriate level with a lower rate of technical terms. The other group consists of two textbooks published by SPN and..
Students' Attitudes Towards Chemistry According to the Secondary School They Attend
TITLE: Students' Attitudes Towards Chemistry According to the Secondary School They Attend AUTHOR: PhDr. Martin Rusek DEPARTMENT: Katedra chemie a didaktiky chemie SUPERVISOR: prof. RNDr. Pavel Beneš, CSc. ABSTRACT: The research presented in this thesis completes the data with the information about so far neglected vocational schools students' attitudes towards chemistry. After the curricular reform, impact put on general education, including chemistry, brings considerable changes in this area. The questionnaire used was focused on three spheres: students' attitudes towards chemistry, didactical facilities used in chemistry education and students' attitudes towards particular chemical topics. The questionnaire was submitted to students (N = 959) at the beginning of the school year after they entered secondary school. That way the results reflect students' attitudes constructed at primary schools. The results show negative students' attitudes. They are mostly affected by the difficulty of the subject and also by students' low interest in the topics. It was also proved that topics close to students' lives play a vital role. Based on the results of the research, proposals may be word in order to solve the situation: emphasizing activating methods such as: experimental work and active observation, also..
Edukacja regionalna a przemiany społeczności przemysłowych - tworzenie tradycji jako wyzwanie edukacyjne - na przykładzie Zagłębia Dąbrowskiego
Many regions of Europe are witnessing the reconstruction of regional identity, especially in places where radical social, cultural and economic changes occur. Economic restructuring is a factor of particular importance – it has always affected the stability of units such as a region, town and sometimes even a country. In Poland, this is well visible in the Silesian Voivodship, including in one of its sub-regions, the Dąbrowa Basin, presented in the paper. This young region, created as a result of 19-century pan-European industrialization, is inhabited mainly by descendants of immigrants from rural and small-town areas of Lesser Poland (Małopolska). Attempts have begun in many local groups and circles to strengthen the region’s identity – a process often accompanied by the creation of this identity and by inventing and hand-picking passages of the region’s history that serve this purpose. This poses a significant challenge for regional education where a serious dilemma appears: how to tackle invented tradition, how to evaluate it and what functions to assign to it.Bielecki P., (2011), Zachowania wyborcze mieszkańców Zagłębia i Górnego Śląska ,

Uniwersytet Śląski z siedzibą w Cieszynie w procesie zmian
The university located in Silesia has a short official name, i.e. “The University of Silesia”,
however, most frequently, in the colloquial language, it is used in its broadened version, i.e. “The
University of Silesia in Katowice” . The very name only partially reflects a contemporary location
and functioning of the school. Although the seat of the authorities of the University of Silesia and
the majority of its departments are situated in Katowice, many units permanently settled into the
structure of several other cities of the Silesian Voivodship: Sosnowiec, Chorzów, Rybnik,
Jastrzębie-Zdrój, and Cieszyn — an informal capital of Cieszyn Silesia.
It would be impossible to imagine Cieszyn without the university “in Bobrek” these days, as
people living in Cieszyn say. It is already a stable and inviolable element of a cultural landscape
and social structure of the city and Cieszyn country.
The university in Cieszyn has its regional and border trait — unique and original adjusted to
European trends
"Inny" Śląsk - południowe rubieże województwa śląskiego
One of the distinctive features of the Silesian Voivodeship — a region created by an administrative
decision — is its multifaceted diversity, described in different contexts and recalled for
different reasons, not only cognitive but also political ones. The voivodeship is a multicultural area
characterized by a mosaic of cultural, religious and ethnic diversity. In everyday perception, as well
as in the media, the Silesian Voivodeship is usually associated with the industrial agglomeration of
softly defined borders, and rarely with its integral parts of Zagłębie, the Częstochowa region, the hilly
Podbeskidzie and Cieszyn Silesia. The latter, historically belonging to Upper Silesia, forms the southern
flanks of the region, the “other Silesia” — green and totally different in its geographical, social,
cultural and partly also economic image than the other sub‑regions
that form Silesia. The region has
the characteristics of an administrative, ethnic and cultural borderland. Situated on the Polish‑
Czech
national border, it is also a cross‑frontier
area of major economic and political importance. It is also
the fatherland for about 40 thousand Poles living in the Czech part of Cieszyn Silesia — known in
Polish as Zaolzie. Therefore, when we think “Silesia”, we should also think of its southern lands as
one of the varieties of “Silesianhood” which build, just like Upper Silesia, the identity of the region
