Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Conley index for Gutierrez-Sotomayor flows
No full textNeste trabalho, estudamos o Índice de Conley de um conjunto invariante isolado em relação a um fluxo contínuo, mas antes de abordar a Teoria de Conley exibimos dois outros índices como uma forma de motivação. Dentre estes outros índices, destacamos o Índice de Morse, que foi uma das inspirações para Conley desenvolver a sua teoria. Apresentamos as variedades Gutierrez-Sotomayor e os campos vetoriais contínuos Gutierrez-Sotomayor, bem como seus fluxos associados. Finalizamos o trabalho aplicando a teoria do índice de Conley para os fluxos Gutierrez-Sotomayor e mostramos alguns resultados importantes da junção dessas duas teorias, em especial, ressaltamos a Igualdade de Poincaré-Hopf.In this work, we study the Conley Index of an isolated invariant set with respect to a continuous flow, but before board Conleys Theory we show two other indexes as a form of motivation. Among these other indexes, we highlight the Morse Index, which was one of the inspirations for Conley to develop his theory. We present the Gutierrez-Sotomayor manifolds and the Gutierrez-Sotomayor continuous vector fields as well as their associated flows. We end this work by applying the Conley index to Gutierrez- Sotomayor flows and we show some important results of the junction of these two theories, in particular, we emphasize the Poincaré-Hopf Equality
La obra poetica de Vicenta Maturana de Gutierrez
No full textThe reason for studying Vicenta Maturana de Gutierrez (1793-1859) is to recuperate the poetry of a totally ignored woman writer whose literary activity was intense during the first half of the 19th century.Vicenta Maturana de Gutierrez published both poetry and prose, which ranged in style from Neoclassic to Romantic. Although she was the author of two romantic novels, Teodoro o el huerfano agradecido (1825) and Sofia y Enrique (1829), it is her poetic compositions, Ensayos poeticos, which are the subject of this study. Her Ensayos poeticos were published in three different editions in 1828, 1841, and 1859; they favor pastoral themes and deal with such topics as nature, friendship, and social criticism. Her poetry indicates a clear preference for the neoclassic poetic style; however, it was also influenced by a romantic subjectivity in so far as it expresses feelings such as melancholy and pain. In addition, her poetry displays a feminine consciousness, one that adds a distinctive feature to her work which was written at a time when few women writers dared to voice their rights as women.The main focus of the dissertation is to present an outline of the life and works of Vicenta Maturana de Gutierrez; to analyze the poems of the three editions of Ensayos poeticos; and to discuss in depth her collection of poetic prose, Himno a la luna, published in 1838. The dissertation consists of an introduction, four chapters, and a conclusion. Chapter One gives an account of the life and works of the poet, and it discusses her attitudes toward poetic creation. Chapter Two defines the characteristics and major themes of her poetry. Chapter Three discusses Himno a la luna and provides an account of the influence it received from the French writer Reyrac, author of the prose-poem Hymne au soleil. Chapter Four analyzes Vicenta Maturana de Gutierrez' style and versification. A conclusion argues that Vicenta Maturana de Gutierrez deserves attention for her early feminism and for the fact that she bridges the gap between neoclassic and romantic Spanish poetry.Made available in DSpace on 2011-05-07T13:07:59Z (GMT). Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Predominates in such a treaty or takes the defense of the liberality of painting, denouncing the social status of painting in Portugal at the time. The Spanish treatise Gutierrez de los Ríos is identified as a theoretical model for Nunes.El artículo tiene como objetivo reflexionar sobre el pensamiento artístico lusitano del siglo XVII a partir del tratado de pintura de Philipe Nunes. Predomina en este tratado el tono de defensa de la liberalidad de la pintura, denunciando el estatus social de la pintura en el Portugal de la época. El tratado del español Gutiérrez de los Ríos se identifica como un modelo teórico para Nunes.L'article vise à réfléchir sur la pensée artistique lusitanienne du XVIIe siècle à partir du traité de peinture de Philipe Nunes. Le ton de la défense de la libéralité de la peinture prédomine dans ce traité, dénonçant le statut social de la peinture au Portugal à l'époque.
