Seasonal Loading Impact on Performance of Solar DG for Loss Reduction Based on Capacity Factor
AbstractThis paper proposed a methodology to study the seasonal impact on the performance of solar based Distributed Generator (DG) for loss reduction as a main objective. The random behavior of solar irradiance is modeled using beta probability density functions. IEEE RTS (Reliability Test System) data is used for load modeling. Different modules of solar have been studied and appropriate selection is made using capacity factor approach and VSI method is used for finding the optimum location for placement of SPV (Solar Photo Voltaic). An iterative forward backward/BIBC load flow method is used for analysis. The proposed technique has been applied to IEEE 33, IEEE 69 and IEEE 12 bus system and significant reduction of active power losses has been achieved for different seasons of the year
Impact of DG and D-STATCOM Placement on Improving the Reactive Loading Capability of Mesh Distribution System
AbstractIn this paper, Distribution Generation (DG) and Distribution STATic COMpensator (D-STATCOM) are optimally placed in mesh distribution systems using sensitivity approaches. The objective of this paper is to improve the reactive loading capability of the network with maintaining voltage profile in an acceptable limit. Optimal locations of DG and D-STATCOM are determined using Voltage Stability Index and Combined Power Loss Sensitivity approaches respectively. The size of DG and D-STATCOM are determined by variational algorithm subjected to minimization of total power loss. In order to quantitatively analyze the impact of DG and D-STATCOM on voltage stability margin, Q-V curves are drawn using continuation power flow method. In this study the impact of simultaneous placement of DG and D-STATCOM is investigated separately for large industrial motor load as well as industrial load. Also, load growth scenario is considered for better planning of the system. The results are obtained on standard IEEE-33 and 69-bus mesh distribution systems to check the feasibility of proposed methodology
Impact of D-STATCOM Placement on Improving the Reactive Loading Capability of Unbalanced Radial Distribution System
AbstractIn this paper, Distribution STATic COMpensator (D-STATCOM) are optimally placed in unbalanced radial distribution systems (UBRDS) using sensitivity approaches with an objective of improving the reactive loading capability of the network with maintaining voltage profile in an acceptable limit. Optimal locations of D-STATCOM are determined using Voltage Stability Index (VSI). Optimum size of D-STATCOM is obtained by variational algorithm subjected to minimization of total power loss. In order to quantitatively analyze the impact of D-STATCOM on voltage stability margin, Q-V curves are drawn using continuation power flow method. In this study the impact of D-STATCOM placement is investigated for large industrial load model with light, medium and high loading conditions. Also, load growth scenario is considered for better planning of the system. The results are obtained on standard 25-bus and IEEE-37 bus UBRDS to verify the practicability of proposed methodology
Blockchain Technology in Smart Grids and Microgrids: A Critical Review of Challenges and Opportunities
Our Electricity or energy market was designed a long time ago. The regulation that applies to it today that disciples the innovation were put in place about a 100 years ago has been lobbied to keep in place. Since then, there have been massive inefficiencies in the entire ecosystem and infrastructure, and the control and distribution of energy today are quite antiquated. Much regulation prevents new companies from implementing a new system, so it becomes necessary to work with the incumbents to integrate this system. Therefore, this paper aims to frame today's situation of the energy markets’ state. Also, to find the opportunity for a new energy paradigm. We point out how the current public blockchain infrastructure is generally incompatible with today's energy infrastructure. Furthermore, it also enlightens the new infrastructures that will enable the transition and examples of applications in the energy infrastructure
Optimal placement of D-STATCOM using sensitivity approaches in mesh distribution system with time variant load models under load growth
AbstractIn this paper, an approach for optimal placement of D-STATCOM in mesh distribution systems using sensitivity approaches is proposed. The main contributions of the paper are as follows: (i) Optimal D-STATCOM placement based on the new voltage sensitivity index in mesh distribution system, (ii) optimal D-STATCOM size determination for seasonal loads with load growth scenario, (iii) comparison of D-STATCOM placement and size determination with the existing sensitivity methods, and (iv) impact of optimal D-STATCOM placement on voltage stability margin enhancement, energy loss reduction and cost of energy savings. The results of voltage profile improvement, reduction in power losses, reduction in cost of energy loss, improved voltage stability margin, cost of energy loss savings, installation cost of D-STATCOM and annual savings are obtained for UK 38 bus practical mesh distribution system
Energy Savings Using D-STATCOM Placement in Radial Distribution System
AbstractIn this paper optimal location and size of D-STATCOM is determined for radial distribution networks for loss reduction, improvement of voltage profile and overall energy saving. The main contribution of the paper is: (i) Comparison of D-STATCOM allocation for radial distribution network using voltage stability index and power loss index approach (ii) D-STATCOM size calculation by variational technique for radial distribution system, (iii) percentage reduction in power losses with D-STATCOM placement. Based on the reduction in the power losses, the energy savings have been determined. The proposed method is tested for D-STATCOM allocation in IEEE 33-bus radial distribution systems. Results show the considerable reduction in losses and improvement in voltage profile
Power loss minimization and voltage profile improvement of radial and mesh distribution network using sine cosine optimization based DG allocation
Due to the increasing population and emerging technologies, energy requirements are increasing progressively. Distributed generation (DG) is an excellent option to handle the increased power demand. A well optimized DG can help to reduce power losses, CO2 emission and improve voltage profiles. This paper uses sine cosine algorithm to find the optimal location and best size ofDG with power loss minimization as its objective function. It presents the comparison of power loss reduction and voltage profile enhancement due to allocation of DGoperating at 0.85, 0.95 power factor lag andthe optimal power factor that has been obtained by sine cosineoptimization. IEEE 15, 69 bus radial and 33, 69 bus weakly meshed systems with five tie lines are used for power loss analysis. Annual energy saving due to allocating DG with different power factors have been analyzed. All the results are simulated in MATLAB 2021a
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
