Abstract
Aim
The main purpose of the study was to compare blood donation awareness among students residing in urban and rural areas.
Subject and methods
The research tool was an anonymous, original questionnaire designed for the purpose of the study. The questionnaire was distributed among 439 people. In the first stage, authors selected randomly two fields of study at Medical University of Warsaw. Next, three years of study were randomly selected in these two chosen fields.
Results
Nearly 40% of the students admitted that they have donated blood or other compounds. There is statistically significant relation (p=0.0000, Fi=0.25) between blood donation and place of residence of respondents. Students living in cities more seldom showed they have donated blood or other compound. The most common reason that impels students to donate blood is the desire to help another human being.
Conclusions
The level of students' knowledge about blood donations issue is not good enough. It is recommended to introduce intensive information campaigns about the need of blood donation, for example in the form of social campaigns.

Richardson, Barbauld, and the construction of an early modern fan club
MPhilMuch has been written about the life and long works of the eighteenth century epistolary novelist, Samuel Richardson, but the prospect of his position as the first celebrity novelist – responsible for courting his own fame as well as initiating his own fan club – has largely been ignored. The body of manuscripts housed at the National Art Library in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London provides the modern scholar with evidence of the skeletal beginnings of an early fan club. This thesis aims to show how these manuscripts were turned into a saleable commodity by the publisher and entrepreneur Richard Phillips, while under the guiding hand of another, slightly later, literary celebrity, Anna Laetitia Barbauld. In order to restore Richardson’s reputation amongst a new nineteenth century audience, Barbauld was required to construct her own idea of him as an eighteenth century celebrity author, and in doing so the insecurities of a self-professed, apparently diffident man, are revealed. Barbauld’s capacious, but heavily edited selection of letters is analyzed in this thesis, providing ample evidence that Richardson’s correspondents were more than just eager letter writers. By using Barbauld’s biography of Richardson this thesis aims to show how she manipulates the genre of life writing in her construction of him.
This thesis offers an alternative reading of how the Richardson manuscripts are viewed, redefining them as not simply a collection of letters, but as a collective entity, deliberately selected and archived as evidence of an early modern fan club, and its celebrity managing director

The dialect in Italy after the union
Italian dialects occupy an important position in the history of Italian linguistics and are still present and relevant in the linguistic panorama of modern Italy. The purpose of this article is to outline the linguistic image of Italy by drawing attention to its dialects. Through analysis of the situation after unification in Italy in 1861, the author attempts to mark off functions and roles which dialects used to serve. In the second
part of the article she concentrates on the phenomena of nuova dialettalità, or the new perspective and collocation of dialect in the Italian linguistic panorama of the 21st century. This article is a part of a research
project dedicated to functions and uses of dialects in the Italian cinematography.XL32Studia Romanica Posnaniensi

Abstract
Chylothorax is an accumulation of chyle in the pleural cavity. It is a relatively rare cause of pleural effusion in children and its annual incidence is 14 cases per 100 000 children in Europe.
The pleural fluid triglyceride level greater than 110 mg/dl with a cholesterol level lower than 200 mg/dl confirms the diagnosis of chylothorax. Medical imaging are also necessary such as a non-invasive and easily accessible lung ultrasound. Symptoms of this disease are tachypnea, dyspnea, and in some cases dry cough.
This review aims to summarize the current literature regarding chylothorax in children, analyze its possible etiologies and treatments.
The causes of chylothorax are varied. It may appear after surgical interventions, traumas, infections and also be congenital. Iatrogenic factors are the most common cause of chylothorax in children with cardiothoracic surgeries. Management of chylothorax can be quite complex and highly variable, depending on patient’s condition and their response to the introduced treatment. Conservative treatment consisting of nutrition therapy, chest drain, and pharmacotherapy is typically a first-line of treatment. Diet modification consist in dietary supplements enriched with medium chain triglycerides (MCT) or starting the patient on a total parenteral nutrition (TPN). In most of the analyzed cases the conservative treatment alone proved sufficient in the management of chylothorax. In case of its failure, surgical treatment was a secondary therapy choice. One of the most common surgical procedures for pleural effusion is a thoracic duct ligation (TDL) or pleurodesis and both of these methods are highly effective therapy for chylothorax.
This review of the literature reveals a wide variety of causes and methods of treatment of chylothorax. There are no clear standards of management and the therapy is adjusted to the clinical condition of the patient.
