Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used

Effets de la dihydroartémisinine sur la régulation du métabolisme du fer et de la ferroptose dans les leucémies aiguës myéloïdes
Acute myeloid leukemias (AML) are heterogeneous hematological malignancies characterized by a constant activation of oncogenic signals. During my thesis work, I was interested in the study of iron metabolism and its role in the regulation of ferroptosis in AML models. I have shown that the modulation of iron by the addition of exogenous iron triggers ferroptosis in leukemic cell lines and sensitizes them to the action of ferroptosis inducers acting on the intracellular pool of glutathione (GSH). On the other hand, I studied the effects of dihydroartemisinin (DHA), a derivative of artemisinin, a drug used as an antimalarial agent. I was able to show that DHA, due to its pro-ferritinophagic action which leads to an increase in the intracellular labile iron pool, is able to trigger a non-exclusive ferroptotic death which is partly reversed by the genetic inhibition of ferritinophagy. In an original way, by performing a transcriptomic analysis, I have found that DHA induces an activation of the zinc metabolism pathway, and in particular the increase of the transcription of genes coding for metallothioneins, a family of proteins involved in zinc and copper metabolism, as well as in the antioxidant response. By inhibiting the level of response of the main MT isoforms involved in our AML model by genetic strategy or chemical compound, I could observe a sensitization to the cytotoxicity induced by DHA and further by ferroptosis inducers such as erastin, APR-246 or the compound FIN56. Finally, I was able to show that this activation of MTs in response to pro-ferroptotic agents was mediated by a modulation of the GSH pool, an essential cofactor for the action of the detoxifying enzyme GPX4. In conclusion, the data we present on DHA confirm its pro-ferritinophagic action and subsequent increase in the intracellular iron pool. They also reveal in an original fashion the role of zinc metabolism, via the expression of MTs, a family of small ubiquitous proteins involved in the detoxification of heavy metals and the response to oxidative stress, in the regulation of ferroptosis in response to DHA and more globally to pro-ferroptotic agents in AML.Les leucémies aiguës myéloïdes (LAM) sont des hémopathies malignes hétérogènes caractérisées par une activation constante de signaux oncogéniques. Dans le cadre de mon travail de thèse, je me suis intéressé à l'étude du métabolisme du fer dans son rôle dans la régulation de la ferroptose dans les modèles de LAM. J'ai pu ainsi montré dans un premier temps que la modulation du fer par l'ajout de fer exogène permet de déclencher la ferroptose dans des lignées leucémiques et les sensibilise à l'action des inducteurs de ferroptose agissant sur l'axe de signalisation générant du glutathion (GSH) intracellulaire. D'autre part, j'ai étudié les effets de la dihydroartémisinine (DHA), un dérivé de l'artémisinine, drogue utilisée comme agent antipaludéen. J'ai pu montrer que la DHA, en raison de son action pro-ferritinophagique qui conduit à l'augmentation du pool de fer labile intracellulaire, permet de déclencher une mort ferroptotique non exclusive qui est en partie révertée par l'inhibition génétique de la ferritinophagie. Da façon originale, par une analyse transcriptomique, j'ai pu montrer que l'effet cytotoxique de la DHA induit une activation de la voie du métabolisme du zinc, et notamment l'augmentation de la transcription des gènes codant pour des métallothionéines, une famille de protéines impliquées dans le métabolisme du zinc et du cuivre, ainsi que dans la réponse antioxydante. En inhibant le niveau de réponse des principales isoformes de MT impliquées dans notre modèle de LAM par stratégie génétique ou composé chimique, j'ai pu observer une sensibilisation à la cytotoxicité induite par la DHA et surtout par les inducteurs de ferroptose tels que l'érastine, l'APR-246 ou le composé FIN56. Enfin j'ai pu montrer que cette activation des MTS en réponse aux agents pro-ferroptotiques passait par une modulation du pool de GSH, cofacteur essentiels à 'l'action de l'enzyme détoxifiante GPX4. En conclusion, les données que nous présentons sur la DHA confortent les données relatives à son mécanisme d'action et confirment son action pro-ferritinophagique à l'origine d'une augmentation du pool de fer intracellulaire. Elles permettent également de révéler de façon originale la place du métabolisme du zinc, via l'expression de métallothionéines, famille de petites protéines ubiquitaires impliquées dans la détoxification des métaux lourds et la réponse au stress oxydatif, dans la régulation de ferroptose en réponse à la DHA et plus globalement aux agents pro-ferroptotiques dans les LAM
