Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Novel supramolecular architectures based on N-heterocyclic ligands and polyoxometalates
Wydział ChemiiRozprawa doktorska traktuje o budowie układów koordynacyjnych, w których badano, jak na struktury i wynikające z nich właściwości wpłynie wybór jonu metalu, struktury liganda organicznego lub rdzenia nieorganicznego oraz zmiana warunków zewnętrznych (takich jak temperatura lub rozpuszczalnik). Otrzymane związki scharakteryzowano strukturalnie i spektroskopowo, tworząc bibliotekę kompleksów typu zasad Schiffa, a także nowe hybrydy organiczno-nieorganiczne oparte na heteropolianionie skondensowanym.
Polioksometalany, czyli nieorganiczne tlenki zbudowane poprzez stopniową kondensację tlenku metalu MOx, gdzie M to zazwyczaj V, W, Nb lub Mo, a wartość x waha się od 4 do 7 oraz zasady Schiffa, będące organicznym rusztowaniem dla związków kompleksowych, można uznać za związki o wysoce atrakcyjnych właściwościach katalitycznych, fotochemicznych i magnetycznych.
Otrzymano kompleksy z różnymi ligandami N3-donorowymi lub hybrydy organiczno-nieorganicze z heteropolianionem skondensowanym o nietypowych motywach strukturalnych zależnych od użytych ligandów, jonów metali czy przeciwjonów. Przeprowadzono eksperymenty w celu sprawdzenia zdolności tych związków do: zastosowania jako materiałów luminescencyjnych; działania jako sztuczne analogi enzymu syntazy fenoksazynonu czy do katalizowania reakcji utleniania alkoholi z zastosowaniem zasad zielonej chemii.Doctoral dissertation describes the construction of coordination systems and how the selection of a metal ion, the structure of an organic ligand or inorganic core, and the external variable conditions affect their structures and the resulting properties of pre-designed supramolecular architectures. The obtained compounds were characterized structurally and spectroscopically by creating a library of Schiff base type complexes as well as new organic-inorganic hybrids based on polyoxometalate.
POMs can be considered as entities with attractive catalytic, photochemical and magnetic properties what is linked with their various applications. Likewise, polypyridine ligands as well as Schiff bases gain attention by the reason of opportunity to design them respectively for planned supramolecular aggregates suitably combined with their required properties and functions.
Research described complexes with different N3-donor ligands and organic-inorganic hybrids with polyoxometalate with unusual structural motifs and luminescence, biomimetic, catalytic activities and electrochemical properties. The experiments were prepared for checking the ability of obtained compounds to be a luminescent materials, to act as artificial analogues of enzymes and to catalyze oxidation reaction of alcohols with green chemistry context
Synthesis of new supramolecular architectures of d- and f-electron metal ions with magnetic properties

"Synteza nowych architektur supramolekularnych metali d- i f-elektronowych o właściwościach magnetycznych" jest: 1) Synteza oraz charakterystyka strukturalno-spektroskopowa nowych układów supramolekularnych z wybranymi jonami metali d- i f-elektronowych z ligandami typu zasad Schiffa. 2) Badanie właściwości magnetycznych otrzymanych układów i poznanie korelacji magneto-strukturalnych ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem wpływu jonu metalu, przeciwjonu oraz szkieletu organicznego liganda. Praca doktorska opisuje syntezę związków kompleksowych jonów metali d- i f- elektronowych z ligandami typu zasad Schiffa, które różnią się budową kieszeni koordynacyjnej, a także zawierają ugrupowania nie biorące udziału w koordynacji, które powodują istotny wpływ na budowę architektur supramolekularnych i tym samym na wykazywane właściwości. Takie podejście pozwala na zaobserwowanie wpływu niewielkich zmian strukturalnych na właściwości i przeprowadzenie korelacji magneto-strukturalnych.
The scientific goal of the dissertation, entitled "Synthesis of new supramolecular architectures of d- and f-electron metal ions with magnetic properties" is: 1) The synthesis and structural-spectroscopic characterization of new supramolecular systems with selected d- and f-electron metal ions using Schiff base-type ligands. 2) The study of the magnetic properties of the obtained systems and understanding the magneto-structural correlations, with special emphasis on the influence of the metal ion, counterion, and organic scaffold of the ligand. The dissertation describes the synthesis of complexes of d- and f-electron metal ions with Schiff base ligands. These complexes differ in the coordination pocket and also contain non-coordinating moieties that significantly affect the structure of the supramolecular architectures and, consequently, their magnetic properties. This approach allows us to demonstrate how small structural changes can influence magnetic properties and prepare magneto-structural correlations
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
sophisticated methods
Novel self-assembling metallosupramolecular networks
Wydział ChemiiCelem naukowym przygotowywanej rozprawy doktorskiej jest: 1) Synteza oraz charakterystyka strukturalno-spektroskopowa nowych sieci supramolekularnych wybranych jonów metali d- i f-elektronowych z ligandami N-heterocyklicznymi, opartych zarówno na wiązaniach koordynacyjnych, jak i wodorowych. 2) Badanie właściwości nowo otrzymanych związków, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem czynników odpowiedzialnych za ich budowę (szkielet organiczny liganda, jon metalu, przeciwjony) oraz wynikające z niej właściwości: magnetyczne, biologiczne, katalityczne oraz luminescencyjne. Cztery publikacje cyklu dotyczą samoorganizacji liganda 6,6''-dimetylo-2,2':6',2''-terpirydyny wobec wybranych kationów metali bloku d (nikiel(II), kadm(II), srebro(I) oraz wanad(III)), a także opisują właściwości magnetyczne, emisyjne oraz biologiczne otrzymanych kompleksów w zależności od zastosowanych przeciwjonów. Piąta natomiast stanowi pracę przeglądową dotyczącą układów tetrapirydynowych, ich związków kompleksowych oraz zastosowania w dziedzinach takich jak (foto)kataliza, medycyna lub inżynieria materiałowa. Pozostałe cztery publikacje dotyczą właściwości nowych kompleksów supramolekularnych zawierających ligandy, których motyw strukturalny to wiązanie iminowe. Powyższe układy przebadano jako: katalizator procesu hydrosililowania, układy o własnościach Nanomagnetyków Molekularnych oraz prekursory nanokompozytów zdolnych do wykrywania nanomolarnych stężeń neuroprzekaźników (dopamina, epinefryna) w warunkach in vitro.Scientific aim of the doctoral dissertation involves: 1) Synthesis, structural and spectroscopic characterization of new supramolecular networks that comprise chosen d- and f-block metal ions with N-heterocyclic ligands that are based on both coordination and hydrogen bonding. 2) Investigation of their properties, with particular emphasis put on the factors that determine their structure (organic scaffold, metallic centre, counterions) and thus observed magnetic, biological, catalytic and luminescent behaviour. Doctoral dissertation focuses on the synthesis of complexes that are coordinated by ligands belonging to the class of oligopyridines as well as systems, where the role of molecular organic scaffolding is maintained by mono- and bicompartmental imine ligands – Schiff bases. Four publications describe the self-assembly of 6,6''-dimethyl-2,2':6',2''-terpyridine with the chosen d-block metal cations (nickel(II), cadmium(II), silver(I) and vanadium(III)) as well as magnetic, emissive and biological properties of the synthesized complexes in terms of the chosen counterion during the synthetic protocol. Fifth publication is a review article which concerns the quaterpyridine-type systems, their coordination compounds as well as applications in domains such as bioassays, catalysis and photovoltaics. The remaining four publications focus on the properties of new supramolecular coordination compounds with Schiff-base ligands, namely catalysis, Single-Molecule Magnet behavior as well as sensors of neurotransmitters

We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
