Recent progress in the assembly of nanodevices and van der Waals heterostructures by deterministic placement of 2D materials

    No full text
Designer heterostructures can now be assembled layer-by-layer with unmatched precision thanks to the recently developed deterministic placement methods to transfer two-dimensional (2D) materials. This possibility constitutes the birth of a very active research field on the so-called van der Waals heterostructures. Moreover, these deterministic placement methods also open the door to fabricate complex devices, which would be otherwise very difficult to achieve by conventional bottom-up nanofabrication approaches, and to fabricate fully-encapsulated devices with exquisite electronic properties. The integration of 2D materials with existing technologies such as photonic and superconducting waveguides and fiber optics is another exciting possibility. Here, we review the state-of-the-art of the deterministic placement methods, describing and comparing the different alternative methods available in the literature, and we illustrate their potential to fabricate van der Waals heterostructures, to integrate 2D materials into complex devices and to fabricate artificial bilayer structures where the layers present a user-defined rotational twisting angle

    Data visualisation in R

    No full text
The aim of this thesis is to present ways of visualising data using R. Based on the number and types of variables suitable visualisation methods are presented. These methods are described and their creation is explained. They are further discussed and compared. Implementation of these methods in R is shown. Finally, the ways of customizing and combining graphs in R are presented, including some custom author-created functions

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    No full text
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Reflection of Meeting of Ronald Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev in the Czechoslovak and Foreign Media

    No full text
The diploma thesis interprets the causes and course of the meeting of Ronald Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev based on an analysis of Czechoslovak and foreign press. It focuses on the four meetings that took place in Geneva, Reykjavik, Washington and Moscow. Individual meetings are described in chronological order. The thesis is divided into four main parts, each dealing with one of the meetings of US President Ronald Reagan and Soviet General Secretary Mikhail Gorbachev. At the beginning of each section is devoted space to the characteristics of relations between the United States and the Soviet Union, the causes of the summit and the possible results of their meetings. The thesis interprets individual areas of their actions as human rights, arms issues, SDI or regional conflicts and also the course of the summit. The chapters are primarily focused on the comparison of opinion differences and the objectivity of the information communicated in the socialist and foreign press. Part of each section is an analysis of the Summit Reflection, which summarizes the information gathered from the ongoing negotiations at the highest level and analyses the differences of opinion in the Czechoslovak and foreign press
