    In botanical gardens many species within the limits of one plant genus, growing side by side, are capable to interpollinate with a formation of viable seeds. This seeds, owing to Index seminum, enter other botanical gardens, filling their collections not with certain species but rather with their hybrids. Seed for an exchange between botanical gardens are proposed to collect: a) in nature; b) from plants of those species which do not interpollinate spontaneously; c) from plants which are spationally isolated from potenial pollinators. The author suggests to replant collections of botanical gardens step by step so that there was a spatial isolation between species, capable to pollination between themselves

    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

    Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.     In this paper, we suggest to use the term «acclimatized » only for tree species, whose genotypes may have been changed due to introduction only within the range of its spontaneous polymorphism, not due to hybridization or mutagenesis. Thus, acclimatization is the process of adaptation of a species to new environmental conditions because of the appearance of resistant individuals with the genotype resulted from spontaneous intraspecific hybridization within its offspring. In contrast, introduction is the process of scientifically founded selection of plants material of the species for the initial breeding outside of the species areal. It is emphasized that the diversity in the taxonomical composition of cultivars may be increased due to the interspecific hybridization of introduced species. However, specimens obtained using this method should have hybrid status

    Objective – to study morphometrical, biological and decorative features of plants of new for Ukraine species of lilac Syringa faurieri Lev. and methods of their use in landscape design. Material and methods. The objects of the study were S. faurieri plants introduced by using seeds from China. The study was performed in 2010–2018 in the Lilac garden of M.M. Gryshko National Botanical Garden of the NAS of Ukraine. Morphological, field and analytical methods were used. Results. The botanical description of S. faurieri plants was carried out for the first time. Also for the first time the plant phenophases are described, as well as the frostresistance and the effect of the soil moisture are studied. The characteristics of the canopy formation of the stamb (grafted to trunk) plants are described. The methods of this species seed propagation and its use in landscape design are reported. Conclusions. It is revealed that S. faurieri can be successfully cultivated in the Polissya and Forest-Steppe of Ukraine. This species is recommended for the introduction in the planting of greenery for towns and villages of the Crimea and the Steppe zone of Ukraine in general due to the successful use of the closelyrelated to S. faurieri species S. amurensis Rupr. and S. pekinensis Rupr. All these species require multiple soil moistening during summer in conditions of the Crimea and the Steppe zone of Ukraine. Older (10–15years old) plants, which root system deeply entered the soil, usually do not require this procedure

    Objective – to learn the influence of harmful organisms on decorative plants of lilac garden. Material and methods. Syringa vulgaris L. plants and its cultivars were examined. Morphological, field and analytical methods were used. Results. The negative influence of harmful organisms on the ornamental features of S. vulgaris plants growing in monocultural lilac garden of M.M. Gryshko National Botanical Garden of the NAS of Ukraine was established. Such organisms include: Zeuzera purina L., Vespa crabro L., Lapidosaphes ulmi L., Eriphyes loewi Nal., Loxia curvirostra L. and Tolpa europea L. Z. purina harms by the making of galleries in the plants stem, which worsens their physiological state, or else causes their withering away. V. crabro damages S. vulgaris by gnawing of bark around or along the axis of 2–4(5)-year-old branches. About half of the last wither in the next spring, therefore, must be removed. L. ulmi and E. loewi negatively affect by sucking of sap from young shoots or buds, which leads to loss ornamental features of plants, and sometimes – to their death. In some years, L. curvirostra harms by plucking up to 75–95 % generative buds from the total number in the bush. T. europea worsens the ornamental features of plants by making of galleries in the zone of the root system and near it. Attention is focused on control methods of harmful organisms for S. vulgaris. Conclusions. The mentioned organisms damage investigated plant species sporadically by worsening their aesthetic appearance, and sometimes leading to withering away.     By analytical way it was determined that fasciation in the genus Syringa L. species can be grouped into three categories: true, false and composed. The true fasciation is a result of excessive flow of plastic substances to apical meristem of embryonic sprout, which initially leads to a significant expansion of the central cone of growth, and then, after a failure in the system of genetic controlling the process of optimum organogenesis leads to the formation of fascial shoot. Formation of false fasciation is a result of simultaneous sprouting of multiple, closely embedded buds, which are often placed randomly by groups along the axis of true fascial shoot during its formation inside buds. The mechanism of composed fascial shoot appearance is the same as for false one, but a composition of this group of closely embedded buds embodies both typical and fascinated shoots. As a result of the buds fusion the flattened, often curved sickle fascial shoot is formed. The profile of fascial shoot is probably the result of different growth rate of the shoots that formed it
