Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
sophisticated methods

Author, publisher and bookseller : a tripartite synergy in Nigerian book industry
This work is about the roles of Author, Publisher and Bookseller in Book development in
Nigeria. The paper started by delving into the history of Book Publishing in Nigeria after
which it proceeded by defining who an author, a publisher, and a bookseller is and
expatiated on the indispensable roles of these key actors in Nigerian Book Industry and in
the emerging Information Society. Furthermore, the various constraints to book
development were identified while the paper advised on how the Book Industry can be
further promoted in Nigeria. However, the paper concluded and made recommendations
on how the Book sector can help in enhancing scholarship in the country
The Irreversible Line: Adornian Contribution and Communication Through the Use of Arabic Calligraphy in the Videos of Mona Hatoum and Kutlug Ataman
35 pg.This project analizes the use of the Arabic script in Mona Hatoum's Measures of Distance (1988) and Kutlu?? Ataman's Animated Words (2003) to understand the variety of interpretations made possible to audiences familiar and unfamiliar to Arabic. These artists' roles as Middle Eastern artists working/exhibiting in diaspora is a central issue that defines the variety and distinction between their potential audiences. Some interpretations of these works, in turn, are evaluated through the notions of contribution and over -intentional communication proposed by Theodor Adorno in his brief essay, "Questions on Intellectual Emigration." In effect, Hatoum and Ataman's works circumvent the expectations of the Western art market by creating different dimensions of "meaning" inside and outside of language, and, hence, dislocating both the "Eastern" and the "Western" audiences.Advisor(s): Goodarzi, Shoki ; Frank, Barbara E.. Design considerations and biomaterials selection in embedded extrusion 3D bioprinting
In embedded extrusion 3D bioprinting, a temporary matrix preserves a paste-like filament ejecting from a narrow nozzle. In embedded extrusion 3D bioprinting, a temporary matrix preserves a paste-like filament ejecting from a narrow nozzle. For granular sacrificial matrices, the methodology is known as the freeform reversible embedding of suspended hydrogels (FRESH). Embedded extrusion 3D bioprinting methods result in more rapid and controlled manufacturing of cell-laden tissue constructs, particularly vascular and multi-component structures. This report focuses on the working principles and bioink design criteria for implementing conventional embedded extrusion and FRESH 3D bioprinting strategies. We also present a set of experimental data as a guideline for selecting the support bath or matrix. We discuss the advantages of embedded extrusion methods over conventional biomanufacturing methods. This work provides a short recipe for selecting inks and printing parameters for desired shapes in embedded extrusion and FRESH 3D bioprinting methods. In embedded extrusion 3D bioprinting, a temporary matrix preserves a paste-like filament ejecting from a narrow nozzle. In embedded extrusion 3D bioprinting, a temporary matrix preserves a paste-like filament ejecting from a narrow nozzle. Da Shahidano Chawk: Martyrs' Square in Kandahar City, Afghanistan
37 pg.The Shahidano Chawk is a monument in the center of Kandahar City, Afghanistan. It was constructed after World War II, in the period between 1946 and 1948. This thesis explores the various meanings the monument has embodied since its creation. It was originally an ethno-nationalist monument which used two highly charged events, the 1843 massacre at the Herat gate, and the 1880 battle of Maiwand, as motivational motifs to help cement the Pashtun people at a time of crisis. The crisis was the formation of Pakistan, and the transition of the Durand Line from a line demarcating a sphere of influence into a hard international boundary. Later, the martyr motif created a powerful connection with the Afghan and Arab Mujahedeen who fought together against the Soviet invasion from 1979 to 1989. The September 11, 2001 attacks in the United States led to me being deployed to Kandahar where my military unit used an image of the monument on a medal known as a battalion coin. The Shahidano Chawk does not have a fixed meaning, but rather it has been appropriated as an important public expression of values by many groups who attempted to control narratives about their identity and the region by claiming this monument in the bustling center of Kandahar City.Advisor(s): Goodarzi, Shoki .
