    Insólitas Afinidades: Alteridade em Albert Camus e Paul Bowles

    Insólitas Afinidades: Alteridade em Albert Camus e Paul Bowles pretende ser uma análise, inspirada por teorias pós-coloniais, da interacção ocidental com a alteridade magrebina em instantes da obra destes autores que serão figurativos de um espaço e tempo restritos: o Norte de África, durante e após a Segunda Guerra mundial, e subsequente período de descolonização. Procura-se inquirir, em momentos analíticos separados, o discurso colonialista nos diversos diálogos com o "outro"; opção que visa uma leitura mais atenta de modo a alcançar conclusões parciais no sentido da existência de analogias nos diálogos com a alteridade. Na leitura das narrativas de Camus evidenciam-se os elementos do discurso colonialista numa representação que revela, apesar da crítica à política colonial, ocultação da História e algum reducionismo na apreensão da realidade. Demonstra-se neste trabalho que a sua ficção indicia uma duplicidade de sentimentos relativamente à Argélia e à ocupação colonial francesa. De facto, a sua obra expõe uma interacção baseada em preconceitos colonialistas e uma figuração tão realista quanto idealizada, que confirma um Camus dilacerado pela História. Na exegese da obra de Bowles procura-se ver em que medida os seus diálogos com a alteridade também expõem estereótipos do discurso orientalista e definir o seu fascínio pelas paisagens geográficas e humanas norte-africanas, que se afiguram locus da demanda e da desintegração da identidade; alteridade muçulmana que o Autor introduz em alternativa ao niilismo ocidental. Para além do discurso ideologicamente estigmatizado, constata-se a falta de objectividade nas suas narrativas, que se revelam uma evocação nostálgica de um ideal geopolítico e a defesa de um status quo sócio-político que participa da ideologia colonialista. Em suma, este percurso analítico evidencia a existência de um discurso que, apesar de participar do imaginário orientalista, não permite concluir sobre eventuais posturas racistas de Camus ou de Bowles. Conclui-se que as narrativas destes autores são, na verdade, testemunhos pessimistas de uma realidade, o reflexo de uma sociedade colonial essencialmente racista, que invalida qualquer relação genuína entre raças culturalmente diferentes.CEL- Centro de Estudos em Letras - FC

    Parcourant les nouvelles de L’Exil et le Royaume, on montre que les héros camusiens sont tous confrontés au dilemme « solitaire ou solidaire », qu’ils aspirent à la communication avec l’autre et le monde, bref, au royaume, mais se trouvent face à un triple isolement – géographique, politique et psychologique – qui s’avère être l’essence de leur exil. Toutefois, on constate que, parce que placé dans un contexte géopolitique différent – l’Amérique du sud et non pas L’Algérie d’avant-guerre – le protagoniste de « La Pierre qui pousse » échappe à cette fatalité, que l’isolement et la solitude peuvent mener à la solidarité et même à la fraternité

Ces représentations opposent la nature à la civilisation, l’innocence à l’animosité et, plus près de nous, le progrès à la régression ou même l’écologie à la dégradation. Dans la construction de l'imaginaire de la ville, il est important de souligner de quelle manière l'individu a créé une conception double de la ville, laquelle a donné naissance au mythe de la ville maudite opposée à la ville de la perfection. À cette fin, nous examinerons les origines de ce mythe et ses fonctions littéraires, ainsi que l'ambivalence de l'homme face à sa création au fil de plusieurs siècles et auteurs

    Dans cette lecture de "Le Renégat ou un esprit confus " on montrera que la véhémence du conflit franco-arabe subjugue cette œuvre camusienne, que la métaphore du désert, comme le lieu de régénération, y symbolise la violence du colonialisme. A travers la mésaventure du missionnaire qui désire asservir et coloniser les «sauvages», Camus affirme, ironiquement, sa critique face à la démission politique française et à l’échec de sa « mission civilisatrice ». Parallèlement, Camus révèle aussi son pessimisme quant à la possibilité de communication entre deux cultures qui, dans un même espace socio-politique, défendent des systèmes de valeurs irréductibles. On montrera que « Le Renégat » expose une perception manichéenne qui supprime toute relation entre les cultures chrétiennes et païennes et, de surcroit, entre colonisateur et colonisé. Cette lecture cherchera aussi à établir un parallèle entre «l'esprit confus » et ce Camus qui, bien qu’étant conscient de son impuissance face au conflit, ne peut concevoir des points de vue différents des siens sur le problème algérien, ni même établir une critique franchement directe au colonialisme français

    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

    Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.     Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods
