Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Effects of Whole Body Vibration on Strength Gain in Untrained Subjects
Whole-Body vibration (WBV) may lead to increased strength gains when coupled with weight and resistance training. It has been reported to increase muscle contraction and power by increasing muscle recruitment. This study set out to see if sessions of WBV following a workout would result in increased strength gains when compared to a control group. Twenty‐four subjects, 12 men and 12 women ages 18-26, with no prior history of musculoskeletal or heart disorders underwent a 3‐week workout routine designed to target and strengthen the knee flexors and extensors. Subjects were sorted into a control or vibe group with the vibe group receiving 5 minutes of post-workout WBV (30 Hz, Amplitude 13 mm). Strength testing was conducted using an isokinetic dynanometer to record knee flexor and extensor torque at the beginning and end of the intervention. A t‐ test was performed for statistical analysis using SPSS to compare the means of the control and vibe group’s strength changes. P values ranges from 0.08 to 0.98, showing no significant differences between the vibe and control group (P > 0.05). It is concluded that in the short term, WBV following resistance training does not improve strength gains in healthy untrained subjects

THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN DIET QUALITY AND ADIPOSITY IN ADOLESCENT GIRLS
This study examines the relationship between diet quality and total body and regional body fat. Adolescent obesity is becoming a major public challenge in the United States. Obesity is a multifactorial disease that, if developed in early years of life, can track into later years. Persistent obesity is associated with an increased risk of developing type-2 diabetes, heart disease and some cancers. Diet quality and patterns seen in adolescence are important to understand since they can promote fat gain and development of obesity. Anthropometric measures were obtained using standard protocols and body composition measures were obtained using dual energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA). The validated Youth Healthy Eating Index (YHEI) was used to assess diet quality via 14 different components. Multiple linear regressions suggested that the components of the YHEI of fried foods, margarine and butter use, snack foods and dairy were all significantly and directly related to the body composition measures of total percent body fat, android percent fat and BMI. Total YHEI score was significantly and inversely related to the body composition measures. In conclusion, this study suggests that diet quality is a good predictor of body composition, including regional and total adiposity

We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more

Vibe-Rate: The Effects of Whole Body Vibration on Perceived Pain Related to Muscle Soreness
Context: Numerous techniques have been proposed for enhanced recovery and decreased perception of pain after exercise. Whole-body vibration (WBV) may be a viable method to ameliorate post workout delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS). However, the evidence to support WBV as a successful therapy is lacking. Objective: To study the effect of WBV on pain perception and amelioration of DOMS after an intense lower body workout regimen. Participants: 24 healthy, untrained volunteers aged 18 to 26, randomized to WBV group and control group. Intervention: Participants performed a workout regimen of six lower body exercises every other day for three weeks. WBV group was exposed to 5 minutes of vibration after each workout. Visual analog scale (VAS) and numeric rating scale (NRS) used to measure changes in perceived pain. Timed descent of a flight of stairs used to measure the effect of pain on performance. Perceived pain and timed descent were recorded on all workout days. Results: Independent samples t-test found no significant differences in perceived pain between groups. However, timed descent approached significance (p=0.076, p=0.088) on workout days 4 and 5. Conclusions: Administering WBV therapy post-exercise may decrease perceived pain related to DOMS and provide functional improvement via neuromuscular enhancement
