No full textThe article takes a closer look at Blessed Jerzy Popiełuszko as an authority figure and role model for today’s youth, the occasion for which is the 40th anniversary of his martyrdom. The analyses are based on interdisciplinary methodology developed at the intersection of moral theology, pedagogy and sociology of values. The first part presents a theoretical outline of the concepts of authority figure, role model and imitation/emulation, pointing to their biblical, historical and axiological determinants. Then the main trends and socio-cultural transformations that affect the contemporary crisis of authority are presented. The main part of the study is a biographical sketch of Fr. Jerzy Popiełuszko, showing the key values in his teaching (truth, freedom, solidarity, human dignity, love and courage) in the context of the socio-political realities of Poland of the 1980s. A comparative analysis of the axiological preferences of Polish youth and the values preached by the chaplain of “Solidarity” confirms the hypothesis that these attitudes are compatible. In conclusion, Fr. Popiełuszko’s figure can be an important point of reference for the young generation in building their identities and searching for authentic models based on Christian values.Artykuł przybliża postać błogosławionego Jerzego Popiełuszki jako autorytetu i wzoru osobowego dla współczesnej młodzieży, zwłaszcza w kontekście czterdziestej rocznicy jego męczeńskiej śmierci. Analiza opiera się na metodologii interdyscyplinarnej z pogranicza teologii moralnej, pedagogiki oraz socjologii wartości. W pierwszej części przedstawiono zarys teoretyczny pojęć: autorytet, wzór osobowy i naśladowanie, wskazując na ich biblijne, historyczne oraz aksjologiczne uwarunkowania. Następnie zaprezentowano główne nurty i przemiany społeczno-kulturowe, które wpływają na współczesny kryzys autorytetu. Zasadniczą część opracowania stanowi rys biograficzny ks. Jerzego Popiełuszki, ukazujący kluczowe wartości w jego nauczaniu (prawda, wolność, solidarność, godność człowieka, miłość i odwaga) w kontekście realiów społeczno-politycznych Polski lat 80. XX wieku. Analiza porównawcza preferencji aksjologicznych młodzieży polskiej oraz wartości głoszonych przez kapelana ‘Solidarności’ potwierdza hipotezę o kompatybilności tych postaw. W konkluzji wskazano, że postać ks. Popiełuszki może stanowić dla młodego pokolenia ważny punkt odniesienia w budowaniu tożsamości i poszukiwaniu autentycznych wzorców oparcia na wartościach chrześcijańskich

No full textThe article presents the role of values and evaluation practices
in Jerzy Wróblewski`s legal theory. An overview of the theory
includes here the interpretation and the application of the law,
in both of which Wróblewski shows the axiological choices made
by a lawyer. These choices are only partly limited by the interpretative
directives, those generally accepted in a legal culture. The
author of the article describes the two ideologies (normative theories),
distinguished by Wroblewski, of the legal interpretation (and
of the application of the law), which are contradictory to each other
as they refer to opposing values: legal certainty and flexibility
of law. A third type of ideology, identified by Wróblewski refers
to the value of rationality and tries to mitigate the contradictions
of the previous two. Some similarities between Wróblewski`s legal
theory and the theory of H.L.A.Hart may allow to treat him as the

Jerzy Ficowski on Schulz
No full textAccording to the title, the author makes an attempt to reconstruct and analyze the rhetoric of Jerzy Ficowski’s works on Schulz. Since rhetoric is understood here as a way of articulating the text, in many cases it overlaps with poetics. The author’s intention is to approach Regions of Great Heresy as a careful reader of both Schulz and Ficowski to show ideological and stylistic affinities between them. An important part of the essay are many statements by Ficowski himself, drawn from his private correspondence (including letters sent to Schulz) and poetry (particularly his first book of poems, Lead Soldiers of 1948, very significant in the context of his Schulz studies). Supplemented by Kandziora’s commentary, Ficowski’s statements shed new light on the methods of critical research on an author whose biography is incomplete, while his manuscripts, letters, and works of art have been either destroyed or scattered. Thus, Ficowski alternates biography and interpretation, trying to reintegrate the entire output of Schulz. The essay belongs to a research project supported by Narodowe Centrum Nauki

Lindh's practice, particularly his research on the ‘disinterested act’, is read in the context of Grotowski's ‘doing’ in Art as Vehicle. The individual work of the two practitioners on vocal and vibration techniques is seen as integral to their research on physical action. Frank Camilleri is Senior Lecturer in Drama and Theatre Studies at the University of Kent and Artistic Director of Icarus Performance Project (Malta). He served as Academic Coordinator of Theatre Studies at the University of Malta from 2004 to 2008, and in 2007 co-founded Icarus Publishing Enterprise with Odin Teatret and the Grotowski Institute

No full textTożsamość kulturowa może być analizowana z różnych perspektyw: antropologii kulturowej i społecznej, kulturoznawstwa, socjologii i innych nauk o człowieku i kulturze. W niniejszym studium podjęto refleksję nad tożsamością kulturową człowieka w ujęciu katolickiej teologii moralnej, a precyzyjniej: nad czynnikami mogącymi mieć wpływ na jej utratę. W pierwszej kolejności ukazano współczesny indyferentyzm religijny, odczytany jako swoistego rodzaju zagrożenie dla tożsamości w wymiarze wertykalnym. Indyferentyzm religijny wraz z pluralizmem na płaszczyźnie aksjologicznej oraz hybrydyzacją kultury jawi się – używając podziału właściwego dla klasycznej aretologii – jako swoistego rodzaju wypaczenie per defectum tożsamości kulturowej, zaś opisany w dalszej kolejności fundamentalizm oraz nacjonalizm jako wypaczenie per excessum. W ostatniej części zaprezentowano związek między wiernością tożsamości kulturowej a deficytami współczesnej demokracji.Cultural identity can be analyzed from different perspectives: cultural and social anthropology, cultural studies, sociology and other human and cultural sciences. The present study undertakes a reflection on the cultural identity of man in the view of Catholic moral theology and, more precisely, on the factors that may induce its loss. In the first place, the author discusses the issue of contemporary religious indifferentism, read as a specific type of threat to human identity in vertical dimension. Religious indifferentism along with pluralism on axiological level are manifested as, to use the classification proper for classic aretology, a specific type of distortion of cultural identity per defectum, while fundamentalism and nationalism, described in the later part of the article, as distortion per excessum. Finally, the study presents the relationship between fidelity to cultural identity and deficits of modern democracy
Memory of place, memory of the dearest values in Jerzy Włodzimierz Misztela’s poetry (1946–2013)
No full textThe article recalls the late poet, whom the author knew very well, and interprets his literary output. The author focuses on the last two volumes of poetry published by the writer from Piotrków Trybunalski, central Poland, which were designed as bilingual books, in Polish and English, comprising Polish and American motifs related to the history of the poet’s family, his favourite books and cultural fascinations. The first book published in 2001 was meant to be an introduction to the full version entitled The Tale of an Old Photoalbum. The Story of Kajetan Szczukocki and translated by Piotr and Aleksandra Szczypa. However, the bilingual version of the book has not been published, yet. The other book Valley of Consciousness translated by the same team was published in 2012. Jerzy Misztela made himself known as a regional author – a bard and glorifier of Nadpilicze, the area around Piotrków Trybunalski situated in the Pilica River Valley. The beauty of his native village Stara Wieś near Rozprza, where he spent his childhood and adolescence, formed him as a poet of the „home river” of Luciąża. Besides strong regionalism and folk-literary tradition in the post-war Polish literature, characterized by great sensitivity to rural life and nature, his literary output recalls universalism of European culture, intellectualism and going through sensuously perceived existence, being aware of people and generations passing away and of history. Realism combined with aestheticism, emotionalism and mythization imbues Jerzy W. Misztela’s work with considerable epic values making him some sort of „Homer of Nadpilicze”
Methodological Status of the Social Doctrine of the Church before the Second Vatican Council
No full textThe present article raises the issue of the methodological status of the Church’s social doctrine from its beginnings, namely, from the social teaching of Leo XIII, to the Second Vatican Council. In the first part, the author highlights the substantial role of the Magisterium in constituting the Church’s social doctrine. The second part, presents an analysis of the key social documents of the Church, with particular emphasis on methodological strands. The reflection is based on the assumption that the Church’s social doctrine is not just another ecclesial scientific discipline, since it involves a more complex reality in terms of practitioners, methods, sources of cognition or, finally, the nature of assertions formulated within that area of science.Przedmiotem artykułu jest zagadnienie statusu metodologicznego nauki społecznej Kościoła od jej początków, a więc od nauczania społecznego Leona XIII, do Soboru Watykańskiego II. W pierwszej części autor ukazuje Magisterium Kościoła jako aktywny podmiot w ukonstytuowaniu się nauki społecznej Kościoła. W drugiej poddaje analizie kluczowe dokumenty społeczne Kościoła, wydobywając z nich wątki metodologiczne.
