Antiferromagnetic resonance in a-Fe2O3 up to its Neel temperature

    No full text
Hematite (alpha-Fe2O3) is an antiferromagnetic material with a very low spin damping and high Neel temperature. The temperature dependence of the antiferromagnetic resonance in a bulk single crystal of hematite was characterized from room temperature up to the Neel temperature in the frequency range of 0.19-0.5 THz. From these data, the Neel temperature was estimated as 966 K. (C0 2022 Author(s).LPM

Neel Doff – pisarka niezwykła. Między naturalizmem, populizmem, feminizmem a autofikcją

    No full text
Neel Doff (1858–1940) is an extraordinary person in the history of Belgium literature. Extreme poverty and humiliation she had experienced in her early days are the main topic of her work. However, she does not document her life. It is more akin to a literary testimony of a growing self-consciousness, through which a social and cultural advancement of both the author and her character was made possible. The analysis included in the article is focused on her most outstanding work – the trilogy of “hunger and despair”. Key words: belgian literature; naturalism; populism; feminism; autofiction; identity

Eng., Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, 2018Cataloged from student-submitted PDF version of thesis.Includes bibliographical references (pages 149-154).Cryptocurrencies have garnered an increasing amount of attention and grown dramatically in value. Like financial assets, they are traded continuously across a number of exchanges. This thesis presents the design and implementation of a system for real-time data collection of pricing and trading activity for four cryptocurrencies across three exchanges. Using the data collected for the US Dollar to cryptocurrency order books from May 4, 2018 to May 9, 2018 we find that arbitrage opportunities exist in 0.03% to 40.38% of five-second intervals depending on the specific cryptocurrency and exchanges considered. Analysis of the signed trading volume shows that trading behavior differs in the presence of these arbitrage opportunities, but we find only weak evidence suggesting that market participants actively exploit such opportunities on sub-minute timescales.by Neel Hajare.M. The vividness of happiness in dynamic facial displays of emotion.

    No full text
Rapid identification of facial expressions can profoundly affect social interactions, yet most research to date has focused on static rather than dynamic expressions. In four experiments, we show that when a non-expressive face becomes expressive, happiness is detected more rapidly anger. When the change occurs peripheral to the focus of attention, however, dynamic anger is better detected when it appears in the left visual field (LVF), whereas dynamic happiness is better detected in the right visual field (RVF), consistent with hemispheric differences in the processing of approach- and avoidance-relevant stimuli. The central advantage for happiness is nevertheless the more robust effect, persisting even when information of either high or low spatial frequency is eliminated. Indeed, a survey of past research on the visual search for emotional expressions finds better support for a happiness detection advantage, and the explanation may lie in the coevolution of the signal and the receiver

Ontology of Diasporic Emotions in If You See Me, Don't Say Hi by Neel Patel

    No full text
In If You See Me, Don’t Say Hi (2018), the Indian American author and screenwriter Neel Patel charts the tensions and conflicts of Indian American citizens, mainly from a queer perspective. Patel’s eleven short stories explore human relationships and emotions, with a special focus on such themes as love, friendship, family ties, sexuality and betrayal. The protagonists of the stories are diasporic subjects who recall the myth of the model minority as they struggle to piece their lives together, while striving to achieve professional success by assimilating into mainstream American culture. Starting from these premises, this essay looks at Patel’s stories as narratives where anger, dissatisfaction, melancholia, disorientation, and grief prevail. First, it shows how emotions, understood as “structures of feeling,” shape the South Asian diasporic imaginary. Then, it explores the ways diasporic subjects are immersed in a condition of racial melancholia that characterises the narrative of the model minority. Finally, it discusses how queer grief intensifies this sense of loss, thus laying emphasis on the pedagogic function of negative emotions
