Goßens hat sich in seiner vorliegenden Arbeit ein sehr hohes Ziel gesetzt. Es geht ihm darum, sowohl einen "Beitrag zu einer philologisch orientierten Komparatistik" zu leisten, als auch die "Editionswissenschaft auf ihrem Weg von werk- und autorbezogenen Modellen zu einer dynamischen, textreflexiven 'critique génétique'" zu befördern. Es sei sofort gesagt: der Verfasser erfüllt die Erwartungen, die seine ambitionierte Intention im Leser wachruft
