Nikolay Glebov-Putilovskiy. Worker and Leader during the Russian Revolution of 1917
The article describes the fate of Nikolay Glebov-Putilovskiy, a skilled worker who became a member
of the Social Democratic party at 19. A person of many talents (propensity for music, painting, political writing),
Glebov spent many years agitating for the unity of the workers’ movement and the development of the workers’ conscious autonomy. After ten years of forced emigration, Glebov returned to Petrograd in 1917 and, under the
name N. N. Glebov-Putilovsky, became one of the most influential worker leaders at the Putilov Factory. In March
1918, he established the United Workers’ Party, which became a popular political movement among the factory’s
workers. In the Russian Civil War, the UWP campaigned to fight against “the rule of commissars” and for the
unification of “all sensible socialist forces” and free soviets. In June 1920, UWP announced its dissolution and
assimilation by the Russian Communist Party of Bolsheviks (RCPb). Although Glebov was not accepted into the
party, he held several high-level positions: editor of Lenoblizdat, head of the Anti-Religious Museum, deputy
head of education at the Leningrad Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture. His opinion was valued by the
renowned artist P. N. Filonov. In 1938, N. N. Glebov was arrested and died in custody
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Nanoaluminum as a Solid Propellant Fuel
Experimental studies on the burning of nanoaluminum-based solid rocket propellants are carried out. Data on the properties of condensed combustion products, mechanisms of their formation, and burning-rate law are obtained.
Based on these data, a physical picture is developed of the considered burning-propellant classes. Mathematical modeling of burning nanoaluminum in composite solid rocket propellants is carried out. The influence of nanoaluminum on ignition temperature of the metal fuel and burning-rate law is shown. The results of this study allow carrying out the analysis and selection of good-quality propellants using nanoaluminum
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Design and implementation of an electro-optical backplane with pluggable in-plane connectors
The design, implementation and characterisation of an electro-optical
backplane and an active pluggable in-plane optical connector technology
is presented. The connection architecture adopted allows line cards to
be mated to and unmated from a passive electro-optical backplane with
embedded polymeric waveguides. The active connectors incorporate a
photonics interface operating at 850 nm and a mechanism to passively
align the interface to the optical waveguides embedded in the backplane.
A demonstration platform has been constructed to assess the viability of
embedded electro-optical backplane technology in dense data storage
systems. The demonstration platform includes four switch cards, which
connect both optically and electronically to the electro-optical backplane
in a chassis. These switch cards are controlled by a single board
computer across a Compact PCI bus on the backplane. The electrooptical
backplane is comprised of copper layers for power and low speed
bus communication and one polymeric optical layer, wherein waveguides
have been patterned by a direct laser writing scheme. The optical
waveguide design includes densely arrayed multimode waveguides with
a centre to centre pitch of 250μm between adjacent channels, multiple
cascaded waveguide bends, non-orthogonal crossovers and in-plane
connector interfaces. In addition, a novel passive alignment method
has been employed to simplify high precision assembly of the optical
receptacles on the backplane. The in-plane connector interface is based
on a two lens free space coupling solution, which reduces susceptibility
to contamination. Successful transfer of 10.3 Gb/s data along multiple
waveguides in the electro-optical backplane has been demonstrated and
characterised
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more

AbstractIt is known that planar graphs without cycles of length from 4 to 7 are 3-colorable [O.V. Borodin, A.N. Glebov, A. Raspaud, M.R. Salavatipour, Planar graphs without cycles of length from 4 to 7 are 3-colorable, J. Combin. Theory Ser. B 93 (2005) 303–311]. We improve this result by proving that every planar graph without 5- and 7-cycles and without adjacent triangles is 3-colorable. Also, we give counterexamples to the proof of the same result in [B. Author, publisher and bookseller : a tripartite synergy in Nigerian book industry
This work is about the roles of Author, Publisher and Bookseller in Book development in
Nigeria. The paper started by delving into the history of Book Publishing in Nigeria after
which it proceeded by defining who an author, a publisher, and a bookseller is and
expatiated on the indispensable roles of these key actors in Nigerian Book Industry and in
the emerging Information Society. Furthermore, the various constraints to book
development were identified while the paper advised on how the Book Industry can be
