Il progetto CITYMOBIL Il Dimostrativo di Roma
The potential in urban environments of innovative public transport systems based on automation is being investigated within the CityMobil project (2006-2011). The Rome demonstration is implementing a cybernetic transport system (CTS) to connect the new fair with the car park. For this, a demand study has been carried out with a view to assessing the attitudes of the users towards innovative and conventional systems. A stated preference survey has been designed based on two questionnaires: one for the choice between foot and CTS, one for the choice between foot and a minibus. The responses to the two questionnaires have been pooled and a logit model has been calibrated using the joint maximum likelihood. The results are indicative of the relative preference of the users for innovation, as the demand for CTS is higher than the demand for minibus, the scenario and level-of-service attributes being the same. The hypothesis of heterogeneity across individuals of the attitude towards innovation is tested using a mixed logit formulation. Finally, the variation of preferences with the characteristics of the users, including gender, age and education, is explored
Aggregated analysis of in-depth accident causation data
Data collected from in-depth road accident investigations are very informative and may contain more than 500 accident-related variables for a single investigated case. These data may be used to get a more detailed knowledge on accident and injury causation associated with a specific accident scenario. However, due to their complexity, studies using in-depth data at aggregated levels are not common. The objective of this paper is to propose a methodology to analyse aggregated accident causation charts in order to highlight strong and weak relationships between crash causes and pre-crash scenarios. These relationships can be taken into account when developing or assessing new road safety measures (e.g. in-vehicle systems). The methodology has been applied to an in-depth accident dataset derived from the European project SafetyNet. Four different pre-crash scenarios associated with the accident scenario 'vehicles encountering something while remaining in their lane' have been investigated. Even if generalization of these results should be done with care because of database representativeness issues, the methodology is promising, highlighting, for example, a well-defined causation pattern related to vehicles striking a vehicle in rear-end accidents
The contributions of sleep-related risk factors to diurnal car accidents
This study was intended to estimate the presence and number of individual sleep-related risk factors in a sample of diurnal car accidents and to analyze the extent to which these risk factors tended to be more represented in diurnal accidents involving only one vehicle, involving young drivers or occurring on non-urban roads. Two hundred fifty-three drivers involved in diurnal accidents were interviewed immediately after the accidents to assess their sleepiness-related personal conditions and the circumstances prior to the accident (i.e., individual sleep-related risk factors), such as poor sleep, changes in habitual sleeping patterns, prolonged wakefulness, self-reported acute sleepiness and daytime sleepiness, night-shift jobs and insomnia. A total of 12.3% of the drivers were classified as having at least one of the seven risk factors assessed in the study, supporting the general notion that drivers' sleepiness conditions are crucial, even in diurnal driving circumstances in which they are less likely to depend on chrono-biological processes. Furthermore, consistent with the guiding hypotheses, specific sleep-related risk factors were more evident in single (vs. multiple) car accidents, among young drivers and in car accidents occurring on non-urban roads. In summary, sleep-related risk factors seemed to have a negative impact on drivers' safety in circumstances of diurnal driving, especially when the accidents involved young individuals and occurred on non-urban roads. © 2012 Published by Elsevier B.V. Toward a Europe-Wide Interoperable Electromobility System
In March 2011, the European Commission kicked off a four-year Europe-wide initiative called Green eMotion. The aim of Green eMotion is to define and demonstrate an interoperable and user-friendly electromobility system based on existing installations and the experience thus gained. One of the goals of Green eMotion is to create an ICT system concept for the Europewide electromobility services marketplace (including definition of the requisite interfaces) and to demonstrate it. Almost all the 10 Green eMotion demo regions in Europe are using this business-to-business (B2B) marketplace, linking their IT systems to the marketplace via open standard interfaces. The test phase, which began in September 2012, comprises functions used for locating charging points and clarifying charging contracts with third-party providers (roaming). In addition to this key topic of ICT, Green eMotion is also working towards important developments in other areas:
- improvements in standardization;
- technical reports and policy recommendations;
- extensive evaluation of static and dynamic electromobility data;
- demonstration of a new approach to the sharing of electric vehicles in urban areas
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases.
