Asymptotic Symmetries of SU(2) Yang-Mills-Higgs Theory in Hamiltonian Formulation
We investigate the asymptotic symmetry group of a SU(2)-Yang-Mills theory
coupled to a Higgs field in the Hamiltonian formulation. This extends previous
work on the asymptotic structure of pure electromagnetism by Henneaux and
Troessaert, and on electromagnetism coupled to scalar fields and pure
Yang-Mills fields by Tanzi and Giulini. We find that there are no obstructions
to global electric and magnetic charges, though that is rather subtle in the
magnetic case. Again it is the Hamiltionian implementation of boost symmetries
that need a careful and technically subtle discussion of fall-off and parity
conditions of all fields involved.Comment: 49 page

Singular characters and their Lp-norms on classical Lie groups
We show that the Weyl's characters formula takes a particular form in the case of representations whose maximal weight is singular. This formula enables us to prove the following statement. Let G be a compact connected Lie group such that the complexification of its Lie algebra is a
direct sum of its center with classical Lie algebras; then there exists a sequence {λ_n} in the dual object G such that their dimension tends to infinity, tends to infinity and the L^p norm of their characters is uniformly bounded
UC-sets in the dual object of compact group
In this paper we extend the notion of UC-set to non-Abelian compact groups and prove some characterization which generalize well-known result; as a consequence we are able to prove that any compact group contains UC-sets in great profusione and that UC-sets and central UC-sets coincide. Moreover we study UC-sets over SU2, giving a concrete example and showing that the union problem has a negative answer in the non-Abelian case
Concepts of Symmetry in the Work of Wolfgang Pauli
"Symmetry" was one of the most important methodological themes in 20th-century physics and is probably going to play no lesser role in physics of the 21st century. As used today, there are a variety of interpretations of this term, which differ in meaning as well as their mathematical consequences. Symmetries of crystals, for example, generally express a different kind of invariance than gauge symmetries, though in specific situations the distinctions may become quite subtle. I will review some of the various notions of "symmetry" and highlight some of their uses in specific examples taken from Pauli's scientific oevre. This paper is based on a talk given at the conference "Wolfgang Pauli's Philosophical Ideas and Contemporary Science", May 20.-25. 2007, at Monte Verita, Ascona, Switzerland
