He is also the school treasurer, which includes the task of collecting taxes. The baby daughter loves her white kitten. The household, a family of seven, (counting Ben, Julia, the baby, the hired girl, brother Dirk, and two hired men) is busy. Passing on some family gossip, Julia tells Darius that Will Gilmore has very, very few friends here, and only President Phelps and Rev. Albertus C. A. C. V. R. Gilmore, the son of Rev. William and Christine Gilmore, wrote a letter to his grandfather, Rev. Albertus C. Van Raalte, expressing his concern that grandpa was ill. The assigned date is uncertain. His parents lived in Amelia from 1869 to 1873. Even by 1873, it is doubtful that this child could have composed this letter in his own hand.https://digitalcommons.hope.edu/vrp_1870s/1007/thumbnail.jp

A letter of W[illiam] B. Gilmore to A.C.V.R., reporting on some property matters. Gilmore refers to a Mr. S. whom I assume is Samuel Schieffelin. Gilmore is hopeful also that the academy of which he is the principal will thrive. He gives evidence of a warm piety in his letter. Gilmore is married to a daughter of the Van Raaltes.https://digitalcommons.hope.edu/vrp_1870s/1042/thumbnail.jp
