    Get PDF

Value dimensions in consumers' experience: combining the intra- and inter-variable approaches in the hospitality sector,

    No full text
Within the deep and extensive research on value, two main areas of discussion emerge: multidimensionality (intra-variable approach) and interrelationships with other constructs (inter-variable approach). Independently, the two areas have produced relevant knowledge; however, when studying them jointly, the results are inconsistent. The paper aims first to build four self-oriented value scales for a hospitality experience (efficiency, quality, play, and aesthetics), and second to test them in a SEM model with overall perceived value, customer satisfaction, and customer loyalty, upon a sample of 585 hotel consumers in Sardinia (Italy). The results show both unexpected (for the intra-variable approach) and confirmatory (for the inter-variable approach) findings: first, in spite of being a hedonic experience (leisure tourism), intrinsic values (play and aesthetics) are weaker predictors than extrinsic ones (efficiency and service quality) of both overall value and loyalty. Second, a clear quality-value-satisfaction-loyalty chain is confirmed, with relevant indirect effects. (c) 2015 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved

Intrinsic values and the value-satisfaction-loyalty chain: a casual model for services

    No full text
Purpose - Within the abundant and not always unanimous body or research on conceptual and methodological approaches to consumer value in services, there are two areas of relative consensus: the multidimensional nature of value (intra-variable approach) and the existence of causal relations with other constructs (inter-variable approach). This work aims to contribute additional knowledge in both areas, with a joint approach in a structural model tested for hospitality services. Design/methodology/ approach - The study proposes four scales of intrinsic values (entertainment, aesthetics, ethics and spirituality as relaxation), based on Holbrook's (1999) value typology, and a casual model to be used to measure the relationships between these four values and overall perceived value, satisfaction and loyalty. The model is tested with PLS on a sample of 585 hotel guests on the island of Sardinia (Italy). Findings - The psychometric properties of all four value scales, created ad hoc, are tested and approved. Results on the causal model show contrasted links on the intra-variable approach, entertainment, aesthetics and spirituality (measured as relaxation), are positive antecedents of perceived value, while the path ethics-overall value is not confirmed. The value-satisfaction-loyalty chain is fully confirmed, with strong linkages. Research limitations/implications - The authors acknowledge the use of a convenience sample, of mainly leisure tourists. Practical implications - The implications for managers are derived on the need of considering extra drivers (intrinsic and therefore fully experiential) of satisfaction and loyalty. Originality/value - Research on value has been qualified as not univocal and controversial. This study adds knowledge on the use of four less common value types (intrinsic ones) and sheds light on their nature as antecedents of the well-known value-satisfaction-loyalty chain

THE MONUMENTS TO THE SPANISH KINGS IN SICILY IN THE SECOND HALF OF THE 17TH CENTURY : THE CASE OF FILIPPO IV IN PALERMO AND CARLO II IN MESSINA-Two imposing monuments were erected in Sicily in the second half of the 17th Century to celebrate the last kings of Spain belonging to the Asburgo family: the “theater” of Filippo IV, placed in the square in front of the Palermo Royal Palace (since 1661) and the equestrian statue of Charles II (since 1680), placed in the Messina Cathedral square. The two monuments paid homage in Sicily, in the chosen places as the symbol of the Spanish crown’s power, the kings’ triumphs still alive, according to articulated compositional parameters worthy of attention. The use of a new and magnificent figurative repertoire, partly linked to foreign models, and the triple sculptural, architectural and urban value possessed by both monuments establish additional reasons that made exceptional the results achieved. The study of these new monuments requires to extend the reasoning to the contribution of the designers and in particularly it allows to reflect on the procedures by which the architects were selected and engaged in Sicily of the second half of the 17th century, in a professional context in which the role of sculptors-architects appears dominant, like the stories that bind the names of Carlo d'Aprile and Giacomo Serpotta to the two monuments studied

E-loyalty formation : a cross-cultural comparison of Spain and Colombia

This article’s objective is to explore the differences between online shopping behavior in two different markets by explaining the attitudinal and behavioral loyalty of consumers. The proposed model identifies the antecedents of loyalty, as analyzed from different aspects. The model is tested by personal interview surveys of 585 online shoppers in Colombia and Spain. The results indicate that nationality moderates different aspects of the loyalty formation process. In the case of Colombian consumers, affective elements are key determinants of their loyalty attitude, whereas for Spanish online shoppers, attitudinal loyalty is determined primarily by perceived enjoyment in the shopping process, highlighting the importance of hedonic factors in the shopping experience. A significant difference was also found in the satisfaction-attitudinal loyalty relationship between the samples, which tests positively in Colombia but has no significant effect in Spain. Thus, it is proposed that with more experienced consumers, there is greater demand for hedonic elements and less demand for affective elements. The article presents the primary elements for generating attitudinal loyalty among online consumers in an emerging country and finds substantial differences to consumers in a developed country. Suggestions are made for companies that want to adopt an online presence.https://orcid.org/0000-0002-6594-5940https://orcid.org/0000-0002-5758-0806https://orcid.org/0000-0003-2865-1748https://www.scopus.com/authid/detail.uri?authorId=57202849705https://www.scopus.com/authid/detail.uri?authorId=26430896600https://www.scopus.com/authid/detail.uri?authorId=3573908800
