Blind deconvolution of sparse pulse sequences under a minimum distance constraint: a partially collapsed Gibbs sampler method
For blind deconvolution of an unknown sparse sequence convolved with an unknown pulse, a powerful Bayesian method employs the Gibbs sampler in combination with a Bernoulli–Gaussian prior modeling sparsity. In this paper, we extend this method by introducing a minimum distance constraint for the pulses in the sequence. This is physically relevant in applications including layer detection, medical imaging, seismology, and multipath parameter estimation. We propose a Bayesian method for blind deconvolution that is based on a modified Bernoulli–Gaussian prior including a minimum distance constraint factor. The core of our method is a partially collapsed Gibbs sampler (PCGS) that tolerates and even exploits the strong local dependencies introduced by the minimum distance constraint. Simulation results demonstrate significant performance gains compared to a recently proposed PCGS. The main advantages of the minimum distance constraint are a substantial reduction of computational complexity and of the number of spurious components in the deconvolution result
Safety of Rotational Atherectomy Using the Radial Access in Patients With Severe Aortic Stenosis
Despite frequent percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in calcified vessels of older patients, rotational atherectomy (RA) has not been endorsed in patients with severe aortic stenosis (AS) due to safety concerns and lack of data. We explored periprocedural safety and mortality in severe AS patients undergoing RA. Prospective anonymized clinical, echocardiographic, procedural and outcome data of patients undergoing RA PCI between January 2012 and July 2018 were retrospectively extracted from the institutional coronary database. Patients with severe AS undergoing RA PCI were 1:1 propensity matched with patients undergoing RA PCI in the absence of AS. Outcomes of interest were RA related periprocedural complications, 30-day and 1-year mortality. A prespecified subgroup analysis examined the influence of transcatheter aortic valve replacement on mortality following RA PCI. A total of 544 patients underwent RA PCI; 478 without AS and 66 with AS. Propensity matching yielded 35 matched pairs with improved balance in covariates of interest and no significant differences in baseline characteristics postmatching. In the matched cohort (n = 70) slow flow/no-reflow, coronary dissection, perforation, and hemodynamic instability were rare and not significantly different. Survival analyses revealed significantly higher 30-day (Log-Rank p = 0.02) and 1-year mortality (Log rank p = 0.02, HR 5.24 [95% CI 1.13 to 24.28]) in the severe AS group; driven by a fivefold increase in the hazard of death among patients who did not undergo transcatheter aortic valve replacement HR 4.98 [95% CI 1.03 to 24.1]. In conclusion, our study of 70 patients undergoing radial RA PCI suggests that it can be safely performed in patients with severe AS. Long-term outcomes after RA in patients with severe AS are determined by the presence of the valve disease and other co-morbidities. (C) 2019 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved

We develop methods for eliciting prior distribution to incorporate historical data gathered from similar previous studies. The methods can be used either with no prior data or with complete prior data. The advantage of the methods is that the prior distribution is changing automatically when we change the quantile. We propose Gibbs sampling methods which are computationally efficient and easy to implement. TRANSPOSITION OF A GENE-CLUSTER FROM XQ28 TO 16P11.1 - A PERICENTROMERIC-DIRECTED MECHANISM FOR GENOME EVOLUTION
Recurrent duplication-driven transposition of DNA during hominoid evolution RID E-6420-2011
The underlying mechanism by which the interspersed pattern of human segmental duplications has evolved is unknown. Based on a comparative analysis of primate genomes, we show that a particular segmental duplication (LCR16a) has been the source locus for the formation of the majority of intrachromosomal duplications blocks on human chromosome 16. We provide evidence that this particular segment has been active independently in each great ape and human lineage at different points during evolution. Euchromatic sequence that flanks sites of LCIR16a integration are frequently lineage-specific duplications. This process has mobilized duplication blocks (15-200 kb in size) to new genomic locations in each species. Breakpoint analysis of lineage-specific insertions suggests coordinated deletion of repeat-rich DNA at the target site, in some cases deleting genes in that species. Our data support a model of duplication where the probability that a segment of DNA becomes duplicated is determined by its proximity to core duplicons, such as LCR16a
Rayleigh number dependence of the Archimedes number dependent large-scale flow structure formation in mixed convection
We report on experimental investigations of large-scale flow structure formation in mixed convection. We characterize the flow field by measuring the velocity fields within a rectangular model room using 2D2C PIV. The control parameters are the Reynolds number Re, the Rayleigh number Ra and the Prandtl number Pr. All parameters are linked through the Archimedes number Ar. In 6.4x10-2 ≤ Ar ≤ 1.39x101, 4.2x103 ≤ Re ≤ 6.35x104 and Ra = 3.1x107, Ra = 1.8x108 and Pr = 0.713 we found flow 3 different flow structures. While keeping Ra and Pr constant and varying Ar through Re variations, we found an Ar dependence of the largescale flow structure formation within 6.4x10-2 ≤ Ar ≤ 1.39x101. Furthermore, we found a Ra dependence of the structure formation, which shifts the transition points between the structures to higher Archimedes numbers and reduces the mean velocities within the investigated domain
Reynolds numbers near the ultimate state of turbulent Rayleigh-Bénard convection
We report on measurements of the mean-flow Reynolds number ReU and the rms fluctuation Reynolds number ReV in turbulent Rayleigh-Bénard convection as a function of the Rayleigh number Ra for 4 x 1011 < Ra < 2 1014 and Pr ' 0:8. Both can be described by the same power law with an effective exponent = 0:44, in agreement with predictions for ReU but in disagreement with predictions for ReV
Logarithmic variance profiles and the corresponding f-1 spectra of temperature fluctuations in turbulent Rayleigh-Bénard convection
We report experimental results for the temperature variance 2(z) and the corresponding frequency spectra P(f) in turbulent Rayleigh-Bénard convection (RBC) in a cylindrical sample of aspect ratioT= D/L = 1:00 (D = 1:12 m is the diameter and L = 1:12 m the height). The measurements were conducted in the Rayleigh-number range 1011 < Ra < 1:35 1014 and Pr ' 0:8. For Ra = 1:35x1014, 2(z) could be described well by a logarithmic dependence on the vertical position z in a range of z 1 < z < z 2 with z 1 ' 70 and z 2 = 0:1L. Here L=(2Nu) is the thickness of a thin thermal sublayer adjacent to the horizontal plate where the heat flux (denoted by the Nusselt number Nu) is carried mostly by thermal diffusion. In the log layer, we found that the temperature spectra had a significant frequency range over which P(f) f with close to 1. As Ra decreased, increased so that the log layer became thinner. At Ra = 2:05 1011, z 2 < z 1 and therefore there was no range for a log layer. Correspondingly, the temperature spectrum near the horizontal plate did not have the f1 scaling form either

A Bayesian Hierarchical Approach to Model the Rank of Hazardous Intersections for Bicyclists using the Gibbs Sampler
In this paper, Bayesian hierarchical modeling techniques are used to identify and rank hazardous intersections for bicycles in Leuven, a small university town in Belgium. The objective of this paper is to infer the process of listing the most dangerous intersections, based on the available accident data. The hierarchical random effects model allows the specification of different sources of variation, namely the variation between intersections and the variation within each intersection. The Gibbs sampler is used to explore the distribution of the bicycle accident proportions. An important advantage of the Gibbs sampler is the possibility to sample complex functions of the bicycle accident proportions, like the rank of an intersection. It is shown that the ranking itself could be seen as a density. Since the bicycle accident proportions have a stochastic character, the ranking of intersections based on the mean posterior proportion cannot be deterministic. Ranking hazardous sites is an interesting means to get insight in dangerous locations, but there is no such thing as “the” correct ranking. This paper investigates the question whether a ranking alone can give enough evidence for the selection of dangerous sites
