County to county migration and labour market conditions in Hungary between 1994 and 2002
"In this paper I use county to county migration data to estimate the effect of labour market conditions on these flows. A gravity model is estimated on Hungarian NUTS 2 regions for the period between 1994 and 2002. Such results are not available for Hungary so far. Estimated parameters show significant and expected effects of local amenities, distances and labour market conditions. Although the magnitude of the estimated parameters is not small, they are not sizeable enough to compensate for the overall low level of migration." A hybrid asymptotic formula for the second moment of Rankin-Selberg L-functions
Let g be a fixed modular form of full level, and let f j, k be a basis of holomorphic cuspidal newforms of even weight k, fixed level and fixed primitive nebentypus. We consider the Rankin-Selberg L-functions L(+it, fj, k ⊗ g) and compute their second moment over t T and k K. For K 3/4+epsi≤ T ≤ K 5/4-epsi, we obtain an asymptotic formula with a power-saving error term. Our result covers the second moment of L(+it+ir, fj, k)L(+it-ir, fj, k) for any fixed real number r, hence also the fourth moment of L(+it, fj, k). For the proof, we develop a precise uniform approximate functional equation with explicit dependence on the archimedean parameters. © 2012 London Mathematical Society

Addendum: Hybrid bounds for twisted L-functions
Abstract. The aim of this paper is to derive bounds on the critical line <s = 1 2 for L-functions attached to twists f ⊗ χ of a primitive cusp form f of level N and a primitive character modulo q that break convexity simultaneously in the s and q aspects. If f has trivial nebentypus, it is shown that L(f ⊗ χ, s) (N |s|q)εN 45 (|s|q) 12 − 140, where the implied constant depends only on ε> 0 and the archimedean parameter of f. To this end, two independent methods are employed to sho
Twisted L-functions over number fields and Hilbert\u27s eleventh problem
We prove a Burgess-like subconvex bound for twisted L-functions of a fixed irreducible cuspidal automorphic representation of GL(2) over a totally real number field. The proof is based on a spectral decomposition of shifted convolution sums and a generalized Kuznetsov formula.44 pages, LaTeX2e, submitted; v2: Introduction revised, minor changes elsewhere; v3: Small corrections and addition

A Burgess-like subconvex bound for twisted L-functions
Let g be a cuspidal newform (holomorphic or Maass) of arbitrary level and nebentypus, X a primitive character of conductor q, and s a point on the critical line Rs = 1/2. It is proved that
L(g circle times chi, s) 0
is arbitrary and theta = 7/64 is the current known approximation towards the RamannJan-Petersson conjecture (which would allow theta = 0); moreover, the dependence on s and all the parameters of g is polynomial. This result is an analog of Burgess' classical subconvex bound for Dirichlet L-functions. In Appendix 2 the above result is combined with a theorem of Waldspurger and the adelic calculations of Baruch-Mao to yield an improved uniform upper bound for the Fourier coefficients of holomorphic half-integral weight cusp forms
