Identifying the main constructs for an interdisciplinary workplace management framework

    No full text
This second book in the series focuses on the role of workplace management in the organization and the tasks that workplace management needs to consider. The 18 theories that are presented in this book and applied to workplace research discuss management aspects from the organization’s perspective or dive deeper into issues related to people and/or building management. They all emphasize that workplace management is a complex matter that requires more strategic attention in order to add value for various stakeholders. The final chapter of the book describes a first step towards integrating the presented theories into an interdisciplinary framework for developing a grand workplace management theory.Design Conceptualization and Communicatio

    Coxeter categories and quantum groups

We define the notion of braided Coxeter category, which is informally a monoidal category carrying compatible, commuting actions of a generalised braid group B_W and Artin’s braid groups B_n on the tensor powers of its objects. The data which defines the action of B_W bears a formal similarity to the associativity constraints in a monoidal category, but is related to the coherence of a family of fiber functors. We show that the quantum Weyl group operators of a quantised Kac–Moody algebra U_{\hbar }{{\mathfrak {g}}}, together with the universal R-matrices of its Levi subalgebras, give rise to a braided Coxeter category structure on integrable, category {\mathcal {O}}-modules for U_{\hbar }{{\mathfrak {g}}}. By relying on the 2-categorical extension of Etingof–Kazhdan quantisation obtained in Appel and Toledano Laredo (Selecta Math NS 24:3529–3617, 2018), we then prove that this structure can be transferred to integrable, category {\mathcal {O}}-representations of {\mathfrak {g}}. These results are used in Appel and Toledano Laredo (arXiv:1512.03041, p 48, 2015) to give a monodromic description of the quantum Weyl group operators of U_{\hbar }{{\mathfrak {g}}}, which extends the one obtained by the second author for a semisimple Lie algebra

New developments in the genetics, pathogenesis, and therapy of IgA nephropathy

    No full text
Recent years have brought notable progress in the field of IgA nephropathy. Here, we highlight important new directions and latest developments, including successful discovery of several genetic susceptibility loci, formulation of the multihit pathogenesis model, introduction of the Oxford pathology scoring system, and formalization of the Kidney Disease Improving Global Outcomes (KDIGO) consensus treatment guidelines. We focus on the latest genetic findings that confirm a strong contribution of inherited factors and explain some of the geoethnic disparities in disease susceptibility. Most IgA nephropathy susceptibility loci discovered to date encode genes involved in the maintenance of the intestinal epithelial barrier and response to mucosal pathogens. The concerted pattern of interpopulation allelic differentiation across all genetic loci parallels the disease prevalence and correlates with variation in local pathogens, suggesting that multilocus adaptation might have shaped the present-day landscape of IgA nephropathy. Importantly, the 'Intestinal Immune Network for IgA Production' emerged as one of the new targets for potential therapeutic intervention. We place these findings in the context of the multihit pathogenesis model and existing knowledge of IgA immunobiology. Lastly, we provide our perspective on the existing treatment options, discuss areas of clinical uncertainty, and outline ongoing clinical trials and translational studies.Kidney International advance online publication, 16 September 2015; doi:10.1038/ki.2015.252

Towards an interdisciplinary employee-workplace alignment theory

    No full text
Many theories from different research disciplines apply to workplace design and management. This chapter describes a first attempt to integrate 21 of those theories into an overall employee-workplace alignment (EWA) framework, as a starting point towards developing a grand EWA theory. Through concept mapping, the tacit knowledge underlying each theory was made explicit in three to five statements that were sorted by 22 experts. By performing multidimensional scaling and cluster analysis, the statements were grouped into eight concepts that reflect the essence of the 21 theories within three regions of meaning: ‘Need-Supply Alignment’, ‘Cognition and Behaviour’, and ‘Organisational Context’. The framework created from the eight concepts connects the different theories in many ways. A further discussion of the three regions and underlying concepts of the framework, in relation to existing workplace research and theory, identifies many research gaps that need attention before the EWA theory can be fully developed. The chapter ends with implications for practice and some closing words for the entire book. © 2021 selection and editorial matter, Rianne Appel-Meulenbroek, Susanne Colenberg, and Vitalija Danivska.Peer reviewe

Uniqueness of Coxeter structures on Kac–Moody algebras

    No full text
Abstract. Let g be a symmetrisable Kac–Moody algebra, and Ung the corresponding quantum group. We showed in [1, 2] that the braided Coxeter structure on integrable, category O representations of Ung which underlies the R–matrix actions arising from the Levi subalgebras of Ung and the quantum Weyl group action of the generalised braid group Bg can be transferred to integrable, category O representations of g. We prove in this paper that, up to unique equivalence, there is a unique such structure on the latter category with prescribed restriction functors, R–matrices, and local monodromies. This extends, simplifies and strengthens a similar result of the second author valid when g is semisimple, and is used in [3] to describe the monodromy of the rational Casimir connection of g in terms of the quantum Weyl group operators of Ung. Our main tool is a refinement of Enriquez’s universal algebras, which is adapted to the PROP describing a Lie bialgebra graded by the non–negative roots of g.<br/

Dynamic media in public transport in consideration of educational material

    No full text
During the last years, passenger information combined with news, entertainment and advertising content has gained an increasing interest.Infotainment has become a buzzword in public transportation. Due to the consistent increase of passengers as well as the continuous development of display systems in public areas, there has been a noticeable increase in net coverage for said media-type. Since infotainment displays have become omnipresent, the first chapter will examine their impact on transmitting educational content. The author anticipates, that said system could be implemented from a technical as well as commercial point of view. Nevertheless, certain restrictions in the field of content-selection and -representation may apply. As delivering time-critical information to an ever-growing number of endpoints has become a crucial factor in operating an infotainment network, reducing transfer time is vital. Furthermore, due to the recent economic decline, minimizing transfer cost has become of great importance. The author states that the separation of layout and content in dynamic media, will lead to foresaid required reductions, beyond the means of classical static media.Over the course of this paper, the content of 400 Austrian infotainment displays was gathered and analysed. Based on said findings, a practical implementation of a dynamic media system was developed for testing foresaid hypotheses. To conclude, one can say that the potential of dynamic media shown in this thesis has not yet been fully tapped, therefore representing an interesting field for further research

Home and Mortgage Ownership of the Dutch Elderly: Explaining Cohort, Time and Age Effects

    No full text
The relationship between home ownership of Dutch elderly households and age is strongly negative. Other studies suggest that this age gradient should be attributed to a cohort effect. In this paper we investigate where those cohort effects come from. We also observe that mortgage ownership among elderly home-owners increased considerably during the nineties. Using panel data we estimate models explaining home and mortgage ownership by age, cohort, and time effects, as well as other factors. Cohort and time effects are modelled explicitly using macro economic and housing market related variables. We find that the level of GDP per capita when the household head was young is the main factor explaining generation effects in home ownership among the elderly. After accounting for cohort effects it also appears that home ownership decreases slightly with age. Mortgage ownership among elderly home owners rose considerably during the nineties due to house price increases and due to financial innovation in the mortgage market. Cohort effects are also important. A supplementary analysis suggests that those cohort effects are due to the fact that the accidental bequest motive is becoming less important.home ownership, mortgages, cohort effects
