He worked at the family dairy until joining the Army Air Corps in January 1942. He washed out of pilot training due to airsickness and enlisted in the Navy, serving as a hospital corpsman with Mobile Unit 7 in New Caledonia. He then trained other corpsman in San Francisco. He was discharged in December 1945. 47 pages
