The global knowledge economy in question
Purpose – The aim of this paper is to bring into question the idea of the global knowledge economy. Design/methodology/approach – The paper explores the characteristics of the knowledge economy, as elaborated by academics and policy makers concerned with knowledge in the contemporary global business environment. A range of available data is reviewed concerning the global distribution of investments in knowledge, information and communications technologies (ICTs), international transactions in knowledge-intensive services and royalty and licensing fees, employment by sector and literacy rates. Such data provide a basis for an initial critical evaluation of the notion of the global knowledge economy.
Findings – The use of the term “global knowledge economy” fails to acknowledge the uneven distribution of knowledge-based economic activity. Moreover, as currently constituted, the idea of a global knowledge economy, which focuses on knowledge as conceptualised in the commercial activities of advanced countries, overlooks the diversity of knowledges present in the world today.
Originality/value – This paper provides the first attempt to question and critically explore the global knowledge economy

Here is a witty turn on La Fontaine. As the back cover says of Clément, Ses adaptations sont certes érotiques, mais elles n'ont rien de pornographique. I would agree. The book takes a fresh look at some thirty-eight of La Fontaine's best known fables and presents them as a commentary on some sexual issue. Thus, as far as I can tell, the cicada (11-12) has been only something of a flirt, while the ant has been a working prostitute. The ant's advice here is Vous flirtiez? Baisez maintenant!!! What the cat interrupts in TMCM is here apparently not a meal (24-25)! Les Voleurs et l'Âne gets cleverly transposed into Les Violeurs et l'Anne (28). I think that the pearl that this cock finds is not a jewel but a part of the female anatomy (36). Similarly the grapes that the fox on 69 wants are part of the body of a woman. One needs good colloquial French, perhaps even Canadian colloquial French, to get all that is happening here. Mixed Bruce-Roberts numbers
[EN] We extend the notions of mu*- sequences and Tjurina numbers of functions to the framework of Bruce-Roberts numbers, that is, to pairs formed by the germ at 0 of a complex analytic variety X. Cn and a finitely R( X)-determined analytic function germ f : (Cn, 0). (C, 0). Sonification of Spatial Data
Sonification is the use of sound and speech to represent information. There are many sonification examples in the literature from simple realizations such as a Geiger counter to representations of complex geological features. The data that is being represented can be either spatial or non-spatial. Specifically, spatial data contains positional information; the position either refers to an exact location in the physical world or in an abstract virtual world. Likewise, sound itself is spatial: the source of the sound can always be located. There is obviously a synergy between spatial data and sonification. Hence, this paper reviews the sonification of spatial data and investigates this synergy. We look at strategies for presentation, exploration and what spatial interfaces and devices developers have used to interact with the sonifications. Furthermore we discuss the duality between spatial data and various sonification methodologies
