    An algebraic interpretation of the multivariate q-Krawtchouk polynomials

    The multivariate quantum q-Krawtchouk polynomials are shown to arise as matrix elements of “q-rotations” acting on the state vectors of many q-oscillators. The focus is put on the two-variable case. The algebraic interpretation is used to derive the main properties of the polynomials: orthogonality, duality, structure relations, difference equations, and recurrence relations. The extension to an arbitrary number of variables is presented

    The Racah problem for the quantum superalgebra osp[subscript q] (1|2) is considered. The intermediate Casimir operators are shown to realize a q-deformation of the Bannai–Ito algebra. The Racah coefficients of osp[subscript q] (1|2) are calculated explicitly in terms of basic orthogonal polynomials that q-generalize the Bannai–Ito polynomials. The relation between these q-deformed Bannai–Ito polynomials and the q-Racah/Askey–Wilson polynomials is discussed

    A Dirac–Dunkl equation on S^2 and the Bannai–Ito algebra

    The Dirac–Dunkl operator on the two-sphere associated to the Z_2^3 reflection group is considered. Its symmetries are found and are shown to generate the Bannai–Ito algebra. Representations of the Bannai–Ito algebra are constructed using ladder operators. Eigenfunctions of the spherical Dirac–Dunkl operator are obtained using a Cauchy–Kovalevskaia extension theorem. These eigenfunctions, which correspond to Dunkl monogenics, are seen to support finite-dimensional irreducible representations of the Bannai–Ito algebra

    A simple discrete model of the two-dimensional isotropic harmonic oscillator is presented. It is superintegrable with su(2) as its symmetry algebra. It is constructed with the help of the algebraic properties of the bivariate Charlier polynomials. This adds to the other discrete superintegrable models of the oscillator based on Krawtchouk and Meixner orthogonal polynomials in several variables

    Gasper & Rahman's multivariate q-Racah polynomials are shown to arise as connection coefficients between families of multivariate q-Hahn or q-Jacobi polynomials. The families of q-Hahn polynomials are constructed as nested Clebsch–Gordan coefficients for the positive-discrete series representations of the quantum algebra suq(1,1). This gives an interpretation of the multivariate q-Racah polynomials in terms of 3nj symbols. It is shown that the families of q-Hahn polynomials also arise in wavefunctions of q-deformed quantum Calogero–Gaudin superintegrable systems

    RG flow from ϕ⁴ theory to the 2D Ising model

    We study 1+1 dimensional ϕ⁴ theory using the recently proposed method of conformal truncation. Starting in the UV CFT of free field theory, we construct a complete basis of states with definite conformal Casimir, C. We use these states to express the Hamiltonian of the full interacting theory in lightcone quantization. After truncating to states with C ≤ C[subscript max], we numerically diagonalize the Hamiltonian at strong coupling and study the resulting IR dynamics. We compute non-perturbative spectral densities of several local operators, which are equivalent to real-time, infinite-volume correlation functions. These spectral densities, which include the Zamolodchikov C-function along the full RG flow, are calculable at any value of the coupling. Near criticality, our numerical results reproduce correlation functions in the 2D Ising model.United States. Department of Energy (Grant DE-SC0015845

    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

    Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.
