Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
Study and fabrication of the La2SiO5/SiO2 diffusion couple for the elaboration of textured and optimized silicate oxyapatite layers for the energy field
This thesis work is focused on the study of different shaping processes in order to obtain a polycrystalline, dense and textured oxyapatite material (La9,33+x/3(SiO4)6O2+x/2). Due to their ionic conduction properties, these materials have potential applications as SOFC fuel cell electrolyte. A preferential orientation along the c-axis of oxyapatite crystallites considerably improves the conduction performances. This material is obtained by reactive sintering between layers of precursors: La2SiO5 and SiO2. The La2SiO5 precursor was synthesized by solid-state reaction, using La2O3 and SiO2 as raw materials. This synthesis route was optimized evaluating the influence of the crystalline nature and the particle size of silica. Thus, the reaction mechanisms involved in the formation of the different lanthanum silicates from the La2O3-SiO2 phase diagram in relation with the silica characteristics were identified. Several shaping processes were studied (tape casting, uniaxial pressing and electrophoretic deposition) for the fabrication of bi-layer and multi-layer materials using the diffusion couple La2SiO5 / SiO2. The influence of different reactive sintering parameters (temperature and holding time) and the porosity of layers on the mechanisms of oxyapatite crystal growth were studied. This work also made it possible to evaluate the feasibility of tape casting and electrophoretic deposition for the elaboration of thin layers of reagents in order to obtain textured materials by reactive diffusion. The results of these studies show that the mechanism of oxyapatite crystal growth is conditioned by the appearance of a liquid phase at the La2SiO5 / SiO2 interface (on the silica grains), which enables the diffusion of lanthanum La+III, and leads to the precipitation of a La2Si2O7 layer, that is the basis for the oxyapatite crystal growth
Study and optimization of the oxygen transport properties through mixed-conductor materials for carbon-free energy production
Mixed ionic and electronic conductors (MIEC) are used in numerous areas, such as cathode materials for the solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC) or as membrane materials for the oxygen gas separation. However, currently, oxygen semi-permeation fluxes produced by ceramic membranes are too low for potential industrial applications. Our study focuses on the better understanding of the oxygen transport mechanisms through the ceramic membranes in order to improve the oxygen semi-permeation fluxes through the membrane. The oxygen transport properties of lanthanum-based or barium-based perovskite materials are characterized and studied by a new and original setup. Then, new architectures of membranes are developed and their electrochemical performances are characterized
Robocasting of environmentally friendly ceramic pastes : linking rheology, printability, layer deposition path and mechanical properties of dense parts
Robocasting makes it possible to build three-dimensional parts, with complex shapes, using a layer-by- layer approach. This process is based on the forced flow of a paste through a narrow nozzle. The most common organic additives used in ceramic formulations come from the petrochemical industry and are potentially harmful to both the environment and operators' health. Hence, this project aims to develop an eco-friendly ceramic paste for robocasting, in agreement with green chemistry requirements. The paste formulation was performed by using alumina powder as a reference material. An aqueous medium with both natural dispersing agent and binder were chosen. Studies have been carried out in parallel to better understand the current challenges associated with the process, in order to give ready- to-use eco-friendly formulations for the industrial environment. Attention was paid on the determination and quantification of essential criteria for printability, focusing on rheology, interactions between additives and cohesion of ceramic systems during their implementation. Moreover, the influence of the filament deposition path on the mechanical properties of dense parts was studied. Finally, the parts obtained are characterized by elastic properties similar to what is achieved (in terms of process and/or formulation), which is promising with regard to environmental needs
Development of ceramic membrane with optimised design for oxycombustion process
Since few years, the study of mixed conducting materials (ionic and electronic) knows an increasing interest in the energy area, especially with the development of electrodes for Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC) or Catalytic Membrane Reactors (CMR) for the methane reforming in synthesis gas or for oxyfuel process. In this latter case, the mixed conductor membrane with La1-xAxFe1-yByO3- perovskite structure allows the separation of oxygen from air at high temperature (900°C) with a quasi-infinite selectivity without outside electric circuit, with an interesting economical cost. The oxygen transport mechanisms through the membrane are studied thanks to an original electrodes system composed of a zirconia point micro-electrode and a metallic reference electrode. This system allows the measurement of the oxygen electrochemical potential at the membrane surface. The influence of cation substitution in A-site then B-site in La0.5A0.5Fe0.7B0.3O3-(A = Ca, Sr, Ba and B = Al, Co, Cu, Ga, Mg, Mn, Ni, Sn, Ti, Zn) perovskite materials has been studied. The results obtained by this original system led us to a better understanding and a identification of the rate determining step of oxygen transport mechanism through the membrane. The influence of the microstructure on oxygen semi-permeation has been studied and an evolution model of semi-permeation properties with microstructure has been shown. The understanding of oxygen transport mechanisms led to the development and the elaboration of news architectures of membranes
Understanding of the influence of microstructural parameters on the electrochemical performances of mixed conductors
The technology of ceramic membranes for oxygen separation knows a great interest due to high energetic efficiency in comparison with the cryogenic distillation process. However, for now, the oxygen fluxes produced by the membrane technology are not high enough for industrial applications. It is therefore necessary to improve the performances of the membranes. The results obtained in this work, using an original device, allowed us to a better understanding of the influence of architectural parameters on the oxygen flux and on the mechanisms limiting the transport of oxygen through the membrane. As a result, it is possible to investigate new architectures of membrane of which the oxygen flux could be close to industrial targets
Development of anti-CMAS and non-wetting thermal barrier coatings by suspension plasma spraying
This PhD work is involved in the development of new technologies capable of withstanding harshenvironmental constraints demanded to the aeronautical industry on new turbojets. A new architecture of thermal barrier coating, exposed to temperatures higher than 1200°C and meant to protect highpressure turbine blades, is suggested in this work. This architecture is a bilayer coating comprising a columnar layer made of yttria-partially stabilised zirconia (YSZ) and a superficial dense layer containing gadolinium zirconate (GZ) and one non-oxide ceramic. It is produced by an emerging process called suspensions plasma spraying (SPS). This bilayer has to be resistant to atmospheric siliceous particles (CMAS) and has to exhibit thermomechanical properties compliant with the thermal barrier coating application. One part of the studies highlights the potential for a CMAS corrosion barrier from the composite coating GZ – SiC, due to the existence of an in situ reservoir of gadolinium oxyapatite and disilicate. Surface carbide is also likely limiting the spreading of the model CMAS glass tested. The coating displays a partially wetting behaviour up to 1300°C. This could result in a higher lifetime of the superficial coating during service. Bilayer coating YSZ – GZ/SiC shows similar properties to thermal aging and CMAS infiltration resistance. Characterisation in the plasma jet of the submicronic particles kinetic behaviour upon impact on diverse surfaces and the evaluation of plasma thermophysical properties on particles’ thermokinetic treatment refined current knowledges on coating columnar growth produced by SPS on intricate surfaces. A judicious choice of plasma conditions led to the production of a bilayer coating showing similar thermomechanical properties to current EB-PVD thermal barrier coatings used on high-pressure turbine blades
