A real-time audio frequency cubic spline interpolator
No full textThe implementation of a real-time cubic spline interpolator for audio frequency applications is presented. The interpolator is based on the parabolically blended cubic spline algorithm (Browne and Gaydecki, 1987; Rogers and Adams, 1990), and is implemented in a TMS320C25 DSP environment. Results based on both time domain data and spectral analyses are presented. These show that, for a PC data acquisition system already equipped with a DSP board, the interpolator can render the need for a hardware reconstruction filter at the output of a digital-to-analogue converter (DAC) unnecessary.</p

The research is on two artists, Patrick Procktor (1936-2003), and Keith Vaughan (1912-1977). The monograph on Procktor – previously one of the least documented of the generation of artists who came to prominence in London in the Sixties – positions him in a history of art from which he had been notably absent. The research on Vaughan asserts a new reading of his work, one that is both deeper and more nuanced in its analysis of the ways in which personal experience and sexuality are encoded autobiographically within his work. Crucially, in both artists biography and work are symbiotically linked; the research therefore examines the links between life and art.
Revisionary in intent, the work examines trajectories of experience of gay British (or rather, English) artists in the twentieth century, artists who sought to express themselves and forge careers within the constraints of a heteronormative society, albeit one in which attitudes to sexuality were undergoing change. As gay men, both were constrained by the social mores of their times, and each used painting as a means to affirm personal and sexual identities. A key research interest is in the ways in which sexuality and persona are reflected in critical responses to the artist’s work: in Vaughan, Procktor and other gay male artists of the period. The writing on both Procktor and Vaughan examines the relationship between their personal and professional/artistic lives, framed within a broader socio-political and art historical context. It asserts the place of biography as a means to understand and form new readings of the work. The work adds substantially to the literature and wider discourse on post-war British painting and social history

Patrick Gale was born on the Isle of Wight in 1962, where his father was prison governor at Camp Hill prison. Later the family moved to London. He boarded at The Pilgrim's School, where he was a chorister, then went to Winchester College before reading English at Oxford University. He did a series of odd jobs to support his writing before becoming a full-time novelist, moving to Cornwall in 1987. He is the author of several novels, and also writes short stories and novellas. He has written one book of non-fiction, on the American novelist Armistead Maupin, and also writes book reviews for The Daily Telegraph.
His first two novels, Ease and The Aerodynamics of Pork, were published on the same day in 1986. The Facts of Life (1995) tells the story of Edward Pepper, an exile saved from Nazi Germany in the Kindertransport, and Tree Surgery for Beginners (1998) is about Laurence Frost, an inarticulate tree surgeon. A Sweet Obscurity (2003) is told from the alternating viewpoints of four separate characters. Friendly Fire (2003) draws on the author's own experience of a late 1970s adolescence, and Notes from an Exhibition (2007) is set in Cornwall, exploring the effects of mental illness on artist Rachel Kelly and her family.

No full textreservedIl presente lavoro si propone di affrontare il tema dell’indagine, dell’inchiesta investigativa nel romanzo “Dora Bruder” dello scrittore francese Patrick Modiano, pubblicato nel 1997. Si tratta del più noto successo editoriale dell’autore, il quale, in una narrazione al contempo biografica ed autobiografica, si mette sulle tracce di Dora Bruder, una giovane ragazza ebrea scomparsa nel 1941, di cui si sono perse definitivamente le tracce. La presente tesi si compone di tre capitoli. Nel primo, si analizzeranno i motivi che spingono l’autore ad occuparsi della vicenda della giovane ragazza scomparsa proprio durante la seconda guerra mondiale. Successivamente, nel secondo capitolo, si passerà ad affrontare come l’autore compie la propria indagine per comprendere che cosa le sia accaduto, diventando una sorta di investigatore su un vecchio caso di scomparsa. Ed infine, nell’ultimo capitolo, si analizzerà quale sarà l’esito della sua indagine.This work proposes to deal with the subject of investigation in the novel "Dora Bruder" by French writer Patrick Modiano, published in 1997. It’s the most known publishing success of the author, which, in a narrative in the meantime biographical and autobiographical, goes on the trail of Dora Bruder, a young Jewish girl disappeared in 1941, of whom all traces have been definitively lost. This thesis is composed by three chapters. In the first, we will analyse the reasons why the author deal with the story of the young girl vanished during the Second World War. Then, in the second chapter, we will approach how the author does his own investigation to understand what happened to her, becoming sort of a detective on an old case of disappearence. Finally, in the last chapter, we focus on which it’ll be the outcome of his investigation

This collection consists of 2 sound tape reels : analog, 3 3/4 ips, 2 track, mono. ; 7 in. Originally recorded on July 19, 1973 by Patrick B. Mullen on a 7-inch reel, 3 3/4 ips, 2 track at an unidentified location; and on November 3, 1973 by Patrick B. Mullen and by Richard Reuss at the annual meeting of the American Folklore Society in Nashville, Tennessee on a Sony audiocassette. Sound recordings are first generation copies on two sound tape reels, 7 in. Biography/History note: Francis Lee Utley was born May 25, 1907 in Watertown, Wisconsin, and died March 8, 1974. He was a folklorist, medievalist, linguist, educator, and author who earned his M.A. in 1934 and Ph.D. in 1936 in literature at Harvard University. He taught at Ohio State University and the University of California at Berkeley, and was president of the American Folklore Society from 1951-1952

No full textDiese Arbeit untersucht Patrick Süskind als multimedialen Autor, dessen Werk die Grenzen traditioneller literarischer Gattungen überschreitet und auch Fernsehen und Film umfasst. Obwohl Süskind vor allem für seinen Roman "Das Parfum: Die Geschichte eines Mörders" (1985) bekannt ist, umfasst sein Werk auch eines der meistgespielten deutschen Stücke der 1980er Jahre, "Der Kontrabaß", und mehrere erfolgreiche Drehbücher, die er in Zusammenarbeit mit Regisseur Helmut Dietl verfasste, darunter den Spielfilm "Rossini" (1997). Ziel der Arbeit ist es, die Interaktion zwischen Medien in Süskinds Werken zu analysieren und die stilistischen Merkmale hervorzuheben, die sein Schreibstil charakterisieren. Als multimedialer Autor der deutschen Postmoderne beweist Süskind mit seinem kleinen, aber einflussreichen Werk, wie Literatur mit anderen Medien in Dialog treten kann und von ihnen geprägt werden kann. Seine spezifischen Stilmerkmale machen ihn zu einer einzigartigen Figur der deutschen Gegenwartsliteratur.This thesis explores Patrick Süskind as a multimedial author whose works transcend the boundaries of traditional literary genres and extend into television and film. Although Süskind is worldwide best known for his novel "Das Parfum: Die Geschichte eines Mörders" (1985), his opus also includes one of the most frequently performed German play of the 1980s "Der Kontrabaß" and several successful screenplays written in collaboration with director Helmut Dietl, among them the feature film "Rossini" (1997). The aim of this study is to analyse the interaction between media in Süskind’s works and to highlight the stylistic features that characterize his writing across different media. As a multimedia author of German postmodernism, Süskind proves through his small but influential work how literature can enter dialogue with other media and be shaped through them. His specific stylistic characteristics make him a unique figure in contemporary German literature

He has also written an original teleplay, Rachel\u27s Dinner , which aired in 1991, and starred Olympia Dukakis and Peter Gerety. Mr. Patrick\u27s most recent screenplay, Brand New Me , has been optioned by Force Ten Productions in Hollywood, and he is the author of Who All Killed Cock Robin?, the play which was adapted from The Death of Cock Robin by W.D. Snodgrass and DeLoss McGraw, and whose premiere opens this year\u27s Literary Arts Festival. He is the Coordinator of the Creative Writing Program at Old Dominion University, and Director of this year\u27s Literary Arts Festival
