Selectivity for dimers in pentene oligomerization over acid zeolites
The reactions of 1-pentene over acid zeolites were investigated in the liquid phase at 473 K. The primary reactions were isomerization, dimerization, and subsequent cracking of dimers. Zeolites consisting of only 10-membered (MFI) or 12-membered rings (FAU, BEA) behaved similarly, with dimerization and subsequent cracking products observed. Zeolites possessing 8-membered ring pores (MOR, FER) showed very different selectivity from each other and from other zeolites. MOR showed almost complete conversion of C10 olefins, such that hexene and butene from cracking were the dominant products. FER showed high activity and selectivity for dimerization, with very small amounts of cracking products observed.Peer reviewe
Potential of Impatiens walleriana Hook.f. as medicinal herb and otherwise - An update
The healing potential and usefulness of plants is known since historic times. Impatiens walleriana Hook.f. (Family - Balsaminaceae) is the most cultivated plant from the genus “Impatiens”. It is explored by floriculture and horticulture industries. It has culinary uses with the potential to be researched by the food industry. Many modern medicines are plant-derived and I. walleriana has the potential to be used as medicine as backed by ethnopharmacological data. I. walleriana finds a number of traditional/folk medicinal claims. All parts of the plant and in varied formulations are used traditionally to treat various ailments. The data reviewed shows its safety in uses and its nontoxic nature. Among the Impatiens species I. walleriana is the less researched one. Few studies pertaining to its antioxidant, antimicrobial and antitumor activities are reported. Phytochemical constituents have been identified and reported by some researchers. Following a detailed study of published information and reported activities current review on the one hand summarizes the research work that has been carried out on the other hand gives food for thought for researchers to undertake more work in the direction of finding its usefulness using scientific methodologies and establishing the ethnic claims

<i>Spariolenus omidvarbrothers</i> sp. n. <p>Figs 1A–C, 2A–D, 9A, 11A–C</p> <p> <b>Type material.</b> <b>Holotype:</b> male, <b> IRAN: <i>Sistan & Baluchestan Province:</i></b> Barashk, Bidan Oasis valley, 26.61 N, 60.35 E, 1336 m, 5 June 2017, M. Moradmand & H. Salehi leg. (SMF). <b>Paratypes:</b> 2 females with same data as for holotype (SMF).</p> <p> <b>Etymology.</b> The species is named in honour of the Omidvar brothers, two Iranian adventurers and explorers who travelled around the world in the 1950s and produced a diary and one of the first travel documentaries from extremely remote areas. Their biography inspired the life of many generations including the first author; noun in apposition.</p> <p> <b>Diagnosis.</b> Males of the new species share the bifurcated ET with <i>S. zagros</i> Moradmand & Jäger, 2011; <i>S. fathpouri</i> Moradmand, 2017; <i>S. mansourii</i>, and <i>S. bakasura</i> <b>sp. n.</b>). They can be distinguished from the latter three species by subequal RET and PET (vs. RET obviously longer than PET). They differ from <i>S. zagros</i> by PET 1/3 of RET in width (vs. similar width of PET and RET in <i>S. zagros</i>) (Fig. 1C). The female epigyne shows a unique MS (widened medially and extended longitudinally, Fig. 2A) (vs. MS narrow and barely visible in the rest of congeners).</p> <p> <b>Male</b> (holotype): <i>Measurements.</i> TL 14.1, PL 6.6, PW 5.7, AW 2.5, OL 7.5, OW 4.5. <i>Eyes</i> (Fig 11A). Specimens were collected at night on boulders and rocks. The type locality was an oasis in a small canyon dominated by palm trees (Fig. 11C). Task allocation for networked autonomous underwater vehicles
Underwater Acoustic Sensor Networks (UW-ASNs) consist of stationary or mobile nodes such as Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs), which may be classified as propeller-driven vehicles and gliders, that are equipped with a variety of sensors for performing collaborative monitoring tasks. UW-ASNs are envisioned for missions like oceanographic data collection, ocean sampling, offshore exploration, disaster prevention, tsunami and seaquake warning, assisted navigation, distributed tactical surveillance, and mine reconnaissance. A task allocation and optimization framework for networked AUVs that participate as a team to accomplish such missions is developed in this work. These missions entrusted to the AUVs are sometimes critical to human life and property, are bound by severe time and energy constraints, and involve a high degree of inter-vehicular communication. The objective of the framework is to form the best possible team, which is a subset of all deployed AUVs that is best suited to accomplish the mission, while adhering to the constraints. Successful completion of the mission is dependent on effective communication between the networked AUVs and to achieve this a geocasting based networking framework is also proposed. Research specific to this area has been limited. Hence, a framework based on energy minimization for the team of AUVs to complete the mission in given time bound is proposed. Further, the effect of size of geocast region, effect of underwater current on the choice of geocast region and on localized nature of the problem, and the performance of Propeller Driven Vehicles (PDVs) and gliders is compared.M.S.Includes abstractIncludes bibliographical referencesby Indraneel S. Linear Loop Transformations in Optimizing Compilers for Parallel Machines
We present the linear loop transformation framework which is the formal basis for state of the art optimization techniques in restructuring compilers for parallel machines. The framework unifies most existing transformations and provides a systematic set of code generation techniques for arbitrary compound loop transformations. The algebraic representation of the loop structure and its transformation give way to quantitative techniques for optimizing performance on parallel machines. We discuss in detail the techniques for generating the transformed loop and deriving the desired linear transformation. Patterns Of Consumer Interest Across Developed And Emerging Markets
In this study, we consider online search term volume as a measure of consumer interest and investigate the patterns of consumer interest across various international markets. Prior research has suggested that online search term volume, or the number of times a particular term is submitted to a search engine, can indicate aggregate or market-level interest in that term. As such, we consider the top terms in the US (most searched for) for one calendar year and look at the patterns of interest in those terms over time in the US, as well as in foreign developed and emerging markets. As globalization continues, consumers are likely to become more culturally integrated, particularly with the rapid spread of information. We explore one approach in measuring this phenomenon. We consider five dimensions of culture for eight foreign markets – four developed and four emerging. We find high levels of cultural integration for terms related to technology products and social networks. Our results suggest implications for international marketing strategy

Regulation of Expression and Function of Neuronal Nicotinic Receptors by Accessory Subunits
Nicotine binds to nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs) and perturbs the biogenesis and trafficking of these channels. The α4β2 and α3β4 subtypes are the most abundantly expressed nAChRs in the central and peripheral nervous system, respectively, and are key mediators of nicotine dependence and withdrawal. These nAChRs are heteropentameric ligand-gated ion channels that form into two stoichiometries in the absence of other subunits: 3α:2β and 2α:3β; each of these contains two canonical ligand binding sites formed by the primary surface of α-subunit and an adjacent β-subunit. Nicotine exposure leads to the upregulation of the 2α:3β stoichiometry only. The only structural difference between the two stoichiometries is the subunit at the accessory position - either α or β. However, it is unknown if this structural nuance yields any biophysical differences to the overall channel function and expression. We aimed to investigate the mechanism by which nicotine modulates differential expression of α4β2 nAChRs in mammalian cells. Our studies revealed that nicotine promotes the surface expression of (α4)2(β2)3 by overcoming the effects of a native chaperone protein that otherwise facilitates (α4)3(β2)2 trafficking. Furthermore, we hypothesized that in the (α3)3(β4)2 stoichiometry, the α3 accessory subunit forms a third ligand binding site as observed in the paralogous α4β2 nAChR. To study this, we engineered a tandem dimer of α3β4 to restrict the stoichiometry and probe separable ligand binding properties using a substituted-cysteine accessibility method followed by covalent modification. This approach identified a third ligand binding site unique to the (α3)3(β4)2 stoichiometry at the α3 accessory interface that is crucial for channel activation. Understanding the stoichiometric differences in nAChRs will inform future precision drug design to target nicotine withdrawal, with the goal of alleviating symptoms while preserving the normal functions
