This work aims to obtain the fusion excitation function for the 16O+16O system through gamma-spectroscopy measurements and gamma-charged particle coincidence, using the Saci-Perere system mounted at the end of the 30A beamline of the Open Laboratory of Nuclear Physics of the University of São Paulo (LAFN). Tests with the gamma-charged particle detection system indicated its unfeasibility due to the short measurement time and lose of the neutron channel. To overcome this problem, a new experimental setup was used. Two gamma\\gamma-ray detectors were placed at 55º and 125º and a surface barrier detector was placed at 130º to monitor the 16O nuclei backscattered. The partial fusion cross sections related to the exit channels from the 16O+16O fusion reaction were measured by detecting their characteristic gamma rays at Ecm= 8.27, 9.27, 10.77 and 12.27 MeV. Three difficulties were faced during and after the experiment: carbon contamination of the target, natural background and low beam intensity. Efforts were made to successfully overcome these difficulties. The relative normalization was made by two ways, using the gamma-rays at 279 keV(197Au) and 536 keV(100Mo), and their results agree very well with each other. The total fusion cross section was obtained by summing the partial cross sections for each beam energy. Its absolute normalization was performed with the total theoretical fusion cross section obtained using coupled channel calculations, using the zero point motion model (ZPM), at Ecm= 12.27 MeV. With the total fusion cross section we calculated the astrophysical S-factor, and both results are in good agreement with the literature.O objetivo deste trabalho é obter uma função de excitação para o sistema 16O+16O através de medidas de espectroscopia-gamma e coincidência gamma-partícula carregada, utilizando o sistema Saci-Perere montado no final da linha de feixe 30A do Laboratório Aberto de Física Nuclear da Universidade de São Paulo (LAFN).

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

The 10B+120Sn reaction was measured at the \"Laboratório Aberto de Física Nuclear\" (LAFN, acronym in Portuguese) of the \"Instituto de Física da Universidade de São Paulo\", at energies around the Coulomb barrier (VB = 35 MeV). Angular distribuitions for the elastic and inelastic scattering were obtained, and the transfer channel of a neutron from the target to the projectile was also identified. Besides that, another set of measurements were carried out using the gamma-particle coincidence techinique with the ancillary system of scintillators and gamma-ray detectors Saci-Perere (acronym of \"Sistema Ancilar de Cintiladores e Pequeno Espectrômetro de Radiação Eletromagnética com Rejeição de Espalhamento\"). Such measurements have allowed the identification of the complete fusion process through the detection of gamma-rays coming from the compound nuclei 127Cs, formed by the absorption of the total projectile charge by the target, followed by the evaporation of neutrons. Events related to the incomplete fusion process, originated from the breakup of 10B, were also identified. A theoretical description of the main experimental results has been performed within the coupled channel formalism, using the São Paulo potential to represent the real part of the nuclear interaction between the two reacting nuclei

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis

Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods

    koamabayili/VECTRON-author-checklist: VECTRON author checklist

We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used

Characterization of large area detectors for charged particle measurements

The measurement and identification of different fragments resulting from the colli- sion of two nuclei are crucial for understanding nuclear interaction mechanisms. In this context, a complete characterization of the detection system used in nuclear reaction expe- riments is essential to provide detailed information about the various reaction processes. Recently, the Heavy Ion Reaction Group (GRIPe, acronym in Portuguese) developed a new experimental setup consisting of a set of large-area segmented silicon detectors, named STAR. The combination of a thin E detector and a thicker E detector forms a telescope, which is suitable for separating charged particles with different charge and mass. Based on the analysis of experiments conducted at the 30B beamline of the Open Nuclear Physics and Applications Laboratory (LAFNA), it was possible to characterize this detection system, determining the thicknesses of the dead layers both at the rear and front of the detectors, as well as the thickness of the active area of each detector. Once the detection system was properly characterized, it was used to measure the 12C+119Sn reaction at a bombarding energy of ELab =47 MeV. Angular distributions of the cross sections were obtained for elastic and inelastic scattering, as well as for some transfer reactions. Coupled reaction channel calculations were performed, and the comparison with experimental data showed satisfactory agreement
