Abstract: In this work we identified exoplanet candidates that could host different types of microorganisms like those that inhabit extreme environments on Earth. Following this aim; we determined two physical parameters of the planets: the equilibrium temperature and atmospheric pressure. We identified microorganisms that can inhabit on Earth in the same ranges of temperature and/or pressure. We also analyzed the Stellar Habitable Zone around each planetary system and made some considerations taking into account the ultraviolet radiation that these planets would receive.Fil: García, M. Mummucina
Key of the known species of Mummucina Note. We did not include Mummucina exlineae Mello-Leitão, 1943 in the key, because according to the original description, the fixed finger of the chelicerae has two equal-sized anterior teeth, one intermediate tooth, and one strongest principal tooth, which does not agree with the diagnosis of the genus proposed by Roewer (1934). Furthermore, the original description of M. exlineae did not include any figures and the type specimen, a female, is considered lost or possibly destroyed (Kury and Nogueira 1999). Hence, we consider this species as Incertae Sedis. The distribution of the genus and the known species is shown in Fig. 2. 1.
Robustness of complex supply chain networks to targeted attacks
Thesis: M. Eng., Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, 2018.This electronic version was submitted by the student author. The certified thesis is available in the Institute Archives and Special Collections.Cataloged from student-submitted PDF version of thesis.Includes bibliographical references (pages 65-67).In this thesis, we study the robustness of complex supply chain systems from a network science perspective. Through the simulation of targeted attacks to nodes and edges using different hierarchical measures from network science to select the most relevant components, we evaluate the extent to which local centrality measures can estimate the relevance of a node in maintaining the connectivity and the efficient communication across the network. We perform the experiments on two real-world supply chain data sets, and on an ensemble of networks generated from network growth models that share simple topological properties with the real-world networks. It is found that all models produce more robust networks than the data sets of choice. In addition, the removal of high average neighbor degree nodes seems to have little impact on the connectivity of the network, and a highly varying impact on the efficiency of the network. Finally, robustness against targeted node and edge removal is found to be more associated to the number of nodes and links in the network than to more complex network measures such as the degree distribution.by María Ximena Rueda Guerrero.M.
refinados correspondió a 18,5%.
Introduction: The prevalence of the obesity has been increasing in the recent decades world wide. Bariatric surgery has shown to be the most effective treatment for morbid obesity and its
comorbidities. The maximum decrease in weight is between 18-24 months post surgery. Never theless, after this period of rapid weight reduction, stabilization and subsequent regain of lost
weight is observed. Among the behavioral factors that have been associated with regain of
weight, it can be found the ones related to eating behavior and physical activity.
Aim: Evaluate what are the most important behavioral factors weight gain in patients undergoing
to sleeve gastrectomy associated with jejunal bypass.
Method: A cross-sectional study was performed, in which patients undergoing to sleeve gastrec tomy associated to jejunal bypass, who had completed at least three years of follow-up were
evaluated. Validated surveys to assess regain of weight; physical activity; food frequency ques tionnaire and presence of binge eating disorder (BED) were performed.
Results: A total of 41 patients of which 14.6 % were males, and 85.4 % females were evaluated.
The average preoperative BMI of the study group was 38.1 kg/m2. The evaluation was conduct ed in average on the 61st postoperatory month. The average of weight regain was 27.5% of the
total weight loss. At the present, the excess of weight loss is 62.8 %. The total average calories
consumed by patients was 1531 kcal/day. The intake of carbohydrates accounted for 48.5 % of
the ingested calories, and the refined carbohydrates corresponded to 18.5 %. 63.4 % of patients
report "grazing"; Breakfast consumption was present in 92.6 % of patients and 26.3% of the in terviewed patients reported performing moderate / intense physical activity, no significant asso ciation was found among regain of weight and any of these variables. The average hours of sleep
reported by patients was of 6.8 h/day; sleeping hours showed no association with weight regain
neither. The average score obtained in BES survey (to assess BED) was 10 points. Significant
statistics were found by dividing the group between patients who developed BED (score> 17)
and those who did not present it. Patients who developed BED were those who regained more
weight (p=0.034). The analysis of multiple regression with stepwise method, the only variable
that remained in the model was the total calories with R2 = 0,174 (p=0,008. Conclusion: The presence of BED must be identified and treated opportunely previous to the
surgery, to maximize the chance of having a successful result in both, the reduction and mainte nance of weight.
Tesis presentada para optar al título de Ingeniero/a Civil Químico/a.Iron chloride or iron trichloride (traditionally called ferric chloride) is a chemical compound used for many years on an industrial scale as a sludge conditioner, stage prior to filtration processes. It is widely used as a leaching agent, for obtaining and purifying molybdenum, for the abatement of heavy metals such as arsenic, for the etching and treatment of metal surfaces, among other applications. The company "Occidental Chemical Chile", hereinafter, Oxy Chile, produces and markets the compound as a 42%m/m solution. Due to its characteristics, the demand for ferric chloride has increased, so the company needs to increase its production. For this reason, in this paper, an optimization model for the ferric chloride plant of Oxy Chile is proposed and implemented. The reactors of the first production system were evaluated based on their mass and energy balances and their optimization variables were determined. The reactive production system was also modeled using the Aspen Plus v11 and Matlab programs. Finally, optimal operating conditions were analyzed and determined. The variables analyzed are: the operating temperature of the reactor, the inlet temperature of the reacting fluid and the concentration of the reactants. The effect of the variation of these variables on the production of the reactors and on the final product of the system was evaluated. Finally, proposals for improvement to the first production system that are not related to the optimization variables were suggested. It is concluded that, by increasing the operating temperature of the reactors, the production of the iron dissolving reactor increased, however, the same did not happen for the primary chlorinator reactor. By increasing the inlet temperature of the fluid, the final production for the primary chlorinator reactor did not increase, but the production of the iron dissolving reactor increased. Finally, it was established that in order to optimize the system, a relationship between the chlorine feed flow and the inlet temperature of the fluid to the primary chlorinator reactor must be sought to reach optimal operating conditions.
