New trend in self-assembly of colloidal particles

    No full text
Self-assembly of colloidal particles are of paramount importance for both fundamental research and technical applications. This chapter shows the state of the art of selfassemblies of colloidal particles. Up to now, colloidal particles, e.g. polystyrene and silica microspheres have been synthesized with extremely uniform sizes. They can generally self-assemble into long-range highly-ordered closely-packed arrays – colloidal crystals only with a simple packing symmetry, such as face centered cubic structure. The recent development allow growth of more complicated structures, such as binary colloidal crystals composed of two differently sized particles and non-closely packed structures via a template assisted self-assembly procedure. This is highlighted in the first section of the present chapter. Besides, directing colloidal particles to self-assemble into lower dimensional structures like plane-like or chain-like structures – clustering – is of increasing interest in the past decade. The second section discusses this research trend in detail. The third section is underline a very recent paradigmatic shift in the research field of self-assembly – growth of patchy particles in order to mimic the self-assembly behavior of molecules.

Bending Durable and Recyclable Mesostructured Perovskite Solar Cells Based on Superaligned ZnO Nanorod Electrode

Though high‐quality perovskite films can be achieved under low‐temperature, the efficient charge selective materials, such as the most widely used TiO2, require high‐temperature sintering process, hindering mass production with roll‐to‐roll process by using flexible substrate. Here, a low‐temperature (90 °C) process is developed for preparing superaligned ZnO nanorods (SAZNRs), serving as mesostructured scaffold in direct contact with the perovskite layer. By rational design of the length of the SAZNRs, the perovskite solar cell (PSC), reaches a highest power conversion efficiency of ≈13.8% with largely suppressed hysteresis behavior. More importantly, this nano‐array design demonstrates outstanding mechanical robustness after being incorporated onto the flexible substrate, resulting in a performance preservation of 90% after 1000 bending cycles with a curvature radius of 4 mm. Finite element analysis indicate that the reduction of device performance after bending is ascribed to the cracks occurred in AZO stress concentration layer, which is attested by experiment as well. Besides, the SAZNRs ETM can be reused for fabricating new perovskite solar cells with comparable photovoltaic performance in a time‐saving and scalable manner, paving the way for industrial production of PSCs

Herein, an insulating biopolymer is exploited to guide the controlled formation of micro/nano-structure and physical confinement of alpha-delta mixed phase crystalline grains of formamidinium lead iodide (FAPbI(3)) perovskite, functioning as charge carrier concentrators and ensuring improved radiative recombination and photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY). This composite material is used to build highly efficient near-infrared (NIR) FAPbI(3) Perovskite light-emitting diodes (PeLEDs) that exhibit a high radiance of 206.7 W/sr*m(2), among the highest reported for NIR-PeLEDs, obtained at a very high current density of 1000 mA/cm(2), while importantly avoiding the efficiency roll-off effect. In depth photophysical characterization allows to identify the possible role of the biopolymer in i) enhancing the radiative recombination coefficient, improving light extraction by reducing the refractive index, or ii) enhancing the effective optical absorption because of dielectric scattering at the polymer-perovskite interfaces. Our study reveals how the use of insulating matrixes for the growth of perovskites represents a step towards high power applications of PeLEDs.Funding Agencies|Regione Puglia through Samset2018 [r_puglia/A00_137/PROT/17/07/2017/001578]; MIUR (Italian Ministry of University and Research) through PRIN PERovskite-based Solar cells: towards high Efficiency and lOng-term stability (PERSEO) [20155LECAJ]; Fondazione di Sardegna - Convenzione triennale tra la Fondazione di Sardegna e gli Atenei Sardi Regione Sardegna [L.R. 7/2007, F72F16003040002]; SIR project "Two-Dimensional Colloidal Metal Dichalcogenides based Energy-Conversion Photovoltaics" (2D ECO), Bando SIR (Scientific Independence of young Researchers) 2014 MIUR Decreto Direttoriale 23 gennaio 2014 [197, RBSI14FYVD, CUP: B82I15000950008]; Regione Puglia; ARTI [LSBC6N4, GOWMB21]; China Scholarship Council</p

Research on Factors Influencing Individual’s Behavior of Energy Management

abstract: With the rapid rise of distributed generation, Internet of Things, and mobile Internet, both U.S. and European smart home manufacturers have developed energy management solutions for individual usage. These applications help people manage their energy consumption more efficiently. Domestic manufacturers have also launched similar products. This paper focuses on the factors influencing Energy Management Behaviour (EMB) at the individual level. By reviewing academic literature, conducting surveys in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou, the author builds an integrated behavioural energy management model of the Chinese energy consumers. This paper takes the vague term of EMB and redefines it as a function of two separate behavioural concepts: Energy Management Intention (EMI), and the traditional Energy Saving Intention (ESI). Secondly, the author conducts statistical analyses on these two behavioural concepts. EMI is the main driver behind an individual’s EMB. EMI is affected by Behavioural Attitudes, Subjective Norms, and Perceived Behavioural Control (PBC). Among these three key factors, PBC exerts the strongest influence. This implies that the promotion of the energy management concept is mainly driven by good application user experience (UX). The traditional ESI also demonstrates positive influence on EMB, but its impact is weaker than the impacts arising under EMI’s three factors. In other words, the government and manufacturers may not be able to change an individual's energy management behaviour if they rely solely on their traditional promotion strategies. In addition, the study finds that the government may achieve better promotional results by launching subsidies to the manufacturers of these kinds of applications and smart appliances.Dissertation/ThesisDoctoral Dissertation Business Administration 201

Migration inertielle de particules en écoulement dans des microcanaux

This thesis aims to better understand the physical mechanism controlling the trajectories of particles in confined flows in order to improve predictive models. In the first step we have developed experimental tools based on microscopy and image analysis in order to identify the particles positions in confined flows in square section microchannels. These tools have then permitted to obtain original results on the lateral migration of spherical particles in flows at low inertia. In particular we have shown that neutrally buoyant particles in square channels are focused at channel center at low Reynolds number and at four channel faces at high Reynolds, and that there is a co-existence of the two regimes for intermediate Reynolds. In addition to their lateral migration, under certain conditions, particles can also align in the flow direction to form trains of evenly spaced particles. This work has thus been devoted to the statistical study on the quantification and localization of the train formation and configuration. It has been shown that the formation of trains is controlled by the flow configuration in the wake of the particles, and that the train characteristics, i.e., the fraction of particles in trains and the interparticle distance, are functions of the particle Reynolds number. Finally, preliminary results on flows of bidisperse suspensions have been obtained. To conclude, the perspectives and future developments of this work are presented.
