彭煜 ? 臧 Collection of Peng Yu? - square intaglioGao Jianfu (1879-1951, alternative name Gao Lun 高崙) first studied Chinese painting under the local artist Ju Lian (1828-1904) with his brother Gao Qifeng (1889-1935) and Chen Shuren (1883-1949). After studying western style painting under a French painter, he traveled to Japan in 1905 and saw a new national style of painting called nihonga. Japanese artists developed nihonga by embracing Western techniques, such as perspective and shading, to revitalize their traditional style of painting. Upon returning to China, Gao, along with his brother and Chen Shuren (1883-1949), worked to establish a new
Chinese “national painting” by incorporating Western techniques and taking up some nihonga subjects, such as animals and birds of prey. They and their followers are called Lingnan school of painters. Although the Lingnan School had great success in Guangdong and some other areas, the style never became mainstream.
In the early 1900s until around the 1920s, the Gao brothers were also involved in politics supporting revolutionary ideas. The association that they formed in Tokyo later became the base for Sun Yat-sen’s Chinese Nationalist Party. When the communist party took power in China in 1949, Gao moved to Macao where he died later.
In this pair, Gao Jianfu created an interesting contrast between dry, thick ink brushstrokes and wet, thin ink brushstrokes by selecting the time to rewet his brush with ink. The dry brushwork that shows the background paper exposed is called feibai (Eng., “flying white”). Although Chinese calligraphers had used this technique for more than a thousand years, here feibai enhances Gao’s unorthodoxly linear running script.

Traces and shards of self-injury: Strange accounting with “Author X”
In this strange account autoethnography, three or four authors explore their lived experiences with self-injury. Strange accounting is both a post-modern style of text, and a method for keeping identities concealed when risks and secrets are in play. Author X, a post-modern place-keeper for an anonymous author who may or may not have contributed to this manuscript, introduces a new dimension and layer of concealment. With Author X in-play and under erasure, the reader will never be sure if there were three or four authors on this manuscript. Through strange accounting, a post-structuralist/postmodernist frame will be applied to understanding the self-injury experience. We frame self-injury as a social practice and, for some, an everyday norm, while remaining acutely aware of the stigma surrounding the topic of self-injury. Suppressed Hole-Induced Degradation in E-mode GaN MIS-FETs with Crystalline GaO x N 1- x Channel
Under reverse-bias stress with a high drain voltage, hole-induced gate dielectric degradation in the E-mode GaN MIS-FETs could lead to non-recoverable V TH shifts and devastating time-dependent breakdown. Such a degradation can be effectively suppressed by converting the GaN channel into a crystalline GaO x N 1- x channel in the gated region. The valence band offset between GaO x N 1- x and the surrounding GaN creates a hole-blocking ring around the gate dielectric, preventing holes from flowing to the gate dielectric and therefore mitigating the hole-induced degradation
Molecular Insight into Microstructural and Dynamical Heterogeneities in Magnesium Ionic Liquid Electrolytes
Ionic liquids (ILs) are promising designer solvents for multivalent electrolytes, enabling the modulation of molecular-level interactions of solvate species. The molecular mechanism of multivalent-ion clustering and its impact on electrolytes properties is far less studied than that of ion pairs. Herein, we explore the effect of ion clusters on the transport and electrochemical behavior of IL-based electrolytes for Mg batteries. Simulation and small-angle X-ray scattering results indicate that ILs with higher denticity effectively suppress ion agglomeration and parasitic reactions of the Mg electrolytes. Although ion clustering reduces the diffusivity of Mg2+, the Coulombic efficiency for the reversible Mg deposition/stripping process is improved, highlighting the importance of microstructural and dynamical heterogeneities in the rational design of enhanced multivalent electrolytes
A Semi-automatic Diagnosis of Hip Dysplasia on X-Ray Films
Background: Diagnosis of hip joint plays an important role in early screening of hip diseases such as coxarthritis, heterotopic ossification, osteonecrosis of the femoral head, etc. Early detection of hip dysplasia on X-ray films may probably conduce to early treatment of patients, which can help to cure patients or relieve their pain as much as possible. There has been no method or tool for automatic diagnosis of hip dysplasia till now.
Results: A semi-automatic method for diagnosis of hip dysplasia is proposed. Considering the complexity of medical imaging, the contour of acetabulum, femoral head, and the upper side of thigh-bone are manually marked. Feature points are extracted according to marked contours. Traditional knowledge-driven diagnostic criteria is abandoned. Instead, a data-driven diagnostic model for hip dysplasia is presented. Angles including CE, sharp, and Tonnis angle which are commonly measured in clinical diagnosis, are automatically obtained. Samples, each of which consists of these three angle values, are used for clustering according to their densities in a descending order. A three-dimensional normal distribution derived from the cluster is built and regarded as the parametric model for diagnosis of hip dysplasia. Experiments on 143 X-ray films including 286 samples (i.e., 143 left and 143 right hip joints) demonstrate the effectiveness of our method. According to the method, a computer-aided diagnosis tool is developed for the convenience of clinicians, which can be downloaded at http://www.bio-nefu.com/HIPindex/. The data used to support the findings of this study are available from the corresponding authors upon request.
Conclusions: This data-driven method provides a more objective measurement of the angles. Besides, it provides a new criterion for diagnosis of hip dysplasia other than doctors' experience deriving from knowledge-driven clinical manual, which actually corresponds to very different way for clinical diagnosis of hip dysplasia.fals

Two excel files serve as the datasets for the publication “H. Gao et al., 2021.
