Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. Bu özelliği ile de pek çok araştırmaya konu olmuş ve olmaya devam etmektedir. Okuyan, anlayan, okuduklarını yorumlayan ve sorgulayan nesiller yetiştirmek toplumun tüm fertlerinin sorumluluğundadır ve bu hedef, yine tüm toplumsal kurumların işbirliği içerisinde ve gereken gayreti göstermesiyle gerçekleşecektir. Bu çalışmada ortaokul 8.sınıf öğrencilerinin okuma alışkanlığının oluşmasında etkili olan faktörlere ilişkin görüşlerinin belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Araştırma, nitel araştırma modellerinden olgubilim ile desenlenmiştir. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu 2018-2019 eğitim-öğretim yılı Kilis ili Merkez ilçesinde bulunan Abdurrahman İyigün Ortaokulu, Cumhuriyet Ortaokulu, Süleyman Demirel Ortaokulu ve TOKİ Ortaokulunda öğrenim gören toplamda 40 8. sınıf öğrencisi oluşturmuştur. Araştırma verileri, araştırmacının kendisi tarafından yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme tekniğiyle toplanmıştır. Görüşmede öğrencilere okuma alışkanlığının oluşmasında etkisi olduğu belirlenen çeşitli faktörlerin nasıl bir rolü olduğu sorulmuş ve elde edilen araştırma verileri, nitel veri analizi yöntemlerinden betimsel analiz yöntemiyle analiz edilmiştir. Öğrencilerin görüşleri “birey, aile, arkadaş, öğretmen, Türkçe dersi ve medya” temaları altında toplanmıştır. Araştırmanın sonucunda öğrencilerde kitap okuma alışkanlığının oluşmasında bireyle ilgili olarak merak duygusunun, okumaya ilgi duymanın ve kitap okumayı sevmenin; arkadaşlarla ilgili olarak arkadaşların okumavikonusunda birbirlerine örnek olmalarının, kitap önerisinde bulunmalarının, okudukları kitapları birbirlerine anlatarak kitap değişiminde bulunmalarının; aile bireyleri ile ilgili olarak aile bireylerinin okuma konusunda çocuklarına örnek olmalarının, çocuklarıyla beraber kitap okumalarının, onlara kitap almalarının, evde bir kitaplık bulundurarak onları kütüphaneye götürmelerinin; öğretmenlerle ilgili olarak öğretmenlerin öğrencilerine okuma konusunda örnek olmalarının, onları kitaplarla tanıştırmalarının, kitaplara yönlendirerek kitap önerilerinde bulunmalarının; Türkçe dersiyle ilgili olarak ders kitaplarının okumaya merak uyandırıcı metinlerden oluşmasının, derslerde okuma saatlerinin düzenlenmesinin; medya ile ilgili olarak medyada okumaya karşı istek ve merak uyandırıcı, öğrencilerin ilgisini çekici materyal ve etkinliklere yer verilmesinin etkili olduğu sonuçlarına ulaşılmış ve bu sonuçlara dayanılarak birtakım öneriler sunulmuştur.Communication skills gain more importance day by day in todays world, the act of reading and the reading habit, formed by the continuity of this act, preserve being the key of social progress and personal development from past to present. It has been the subject of many researches and continues to be with this feature. All members of society are responsible for raising generations that read, understand, interpret and question what they read, and this goal will be realized with the cooperation and effort required by all social institutions. In this study, it is aimed to determine the opinions of 8th grade students about the factors that influence the formation of reading habits. The research is designed with phenomenologic method from qualitative research models. The study group of the study consisted of a total of 40 8th grade students studying at Abdurrahman İyigün Secondary School, Cumhuriyet Secondary School, Süleyman Demirel Secondary School and TOKI Secondary School in the Central district of Kilis province for the 2018-2019 academic year. The research data are collected by the researcher using semi-structured interview technique. In the interview, the students were asked what the role of various factors thought to have an effect on the formation of reading habits, and the obtained research data are analyzed using the descriptive analysis method, one of the qualitative data analysis methods. Students’ views were gathered under the themes of “the individual, family, friend, teacher, Turkish lesson and media.” As a result of the research, it is observed that in the formation of students’ reading habits from the point of students, the sense of curiosity, interest in reading and love to read books; with regard to friends, setting an example for each other, suggesting books, exchanging books by telling each other about the books they read; with regard to family members, family members should set an example for their children, read books with them, buy books to them, take them to the library, have a library at home; with regard to teachers, teachers should set an example for their students inreading, introduce them to books, and recommend books to them; with regard to the Turkish course, the text books should consist of texts that are encouraging to read; with regards to the media, it has been reach the result that materials and activities that arouse enthusiasm and curiosity towards reading in the media are effective and some suggestions has been reached based on these results

Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
