    Modelación numérica del acuífero Raigón

Investigación Geotérmica, Acuífero Guaraní, Arsénico, Modelado de Flujo.El Sistema Acuífero Raigón (SAR) es el recurso de agua subterránea más utilizado en Uruguay. Se localiza al sur del Departamento San José, con un área cercana a 2,300 km² y se explota, principalmente, con fines de riego y de abastecimiento. En el marco de la elaboración de un plan de gestión, se elaboró un modelo numérico de flujo que permite evaluar, con base en el conocimiento actual, el funcionamiento del acuífero y su respuesta frente a distintos futuros escenarios de explotación. Para la implementación, se utilizó el software ModelMuse, una interfaz gráfica para el modelo desarrollado por el U. S Geological Service (USGS) MO-DFLOW-2005. El mencionado modelo presenta mejoras respecto a modelos previos del SAR, al incorporar información actualizada de perforaciones con descripción geológica, y lograr una mejor definición en la geometría del acuífero. Otra mejora es la implementación de la simulación de la interacción del acuífero con la red fluvial existente mediante condiciones tipo “river”, eliminando las condiciones de carga constante. Sumado a lo anterior, se actualizó la demanda con base en la información de derechos otorgados. Uno de los principales aportes del trabajo realizado en el desarrollo del nuevo modelo es la implementación del primer modelo transitorio del SAR. La calibración contempló un periodo de 28 años y se realizó según niveles piezométricos relevados en el período 1986-2014, en un total de 18 perforaciones con registros históricos. Con el paso de tiempo mensual se realizó una calibración automática (problema inverso) variando los parámetros de recarga, conductividad hidráulica y coeficiente de almacenamiento. El error de ajuste obtenido fue de 3.9 m para la raíz del error cuadrático medio (RMSE) y de 5.9% para el error cuadrático medio normalizado (NRMSE).The Raigón Aquifer System (SAR) is the most widely used groundwater resource in Uruguay. It is located south of the San José Department, has an area of 2,300 km² and is operated mainly for irrigation and supply purposes. Within the framework of the development of a management plan, a numerical flow model was developed that allows evaluating, based on current knowledge, the functioning of the aquifer and its response to different future exploitation scenarios. The ModelMuse software, a graphical interface for the model developed by the US Geological Service (USGS) MODFLOW-2005, was used for the implementation. The afore-mentioned model presents improvements over previous SAR models incorporating updated drilling information with geological description, achieving a better definition in the geometry of the aquifer. Another improvement is the implementation of the simulation of the interaction of the aquifer with the existing river net-work through “river” type conditions, eliminating constant load conditions of previous models. One of the main contributions of the work carried out in the development of the new model is the implementation of the first transient SAR model. The calibration covered a period of 28 years and was carried out based on piezo-metric levels surveyed in the period 1986-2014 in a total of 18 perforations with historical records. With a monthly time step, an automatic calibration (inverse problem) was performed by varying the refill parameters, hydraulic conductivity, and storage coefficient. The adjustment error obtained was 3.9 m for the root of the mean square error (RMSE) and 5.9% for the mean normalized square error (NRMSE)

    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed.     Variations on the Author

    “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

    Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.     Prosopis L. woody growth in relation to hydrology in South America: A review

    Arboreal species of the genus Prosopis L. have played an important role in the development of tree-ring research in arid and semi-arid ecoregions of South America. Given the distribution of Prosopis across a broad precipitation gradient from 0 to 2000 mm y−1 and its unique role as a phreatophyte, the relationship between Prosopis species growth and water has been a recurring theme over the past century. We conducted a systematic review of the literature addressing Prosopis and water research in South America, and combined site coordinates with GIS data of mean annual precipitation (MAP), elevation, biome, and soil moisture from online databases to understand the spatial distribution of research to date. We compiled 40 publications from 1931 to 2022, including results from 11 species of Prosopis among four countries, on the relationship between Prosopis spp and precipitation, groundwater levels, soil humidity, among other hydrological parameters. The spatial distribution of research sites spans tropical-subtropical and temperate latitudes from 4° to 35°S, excluding regions where the genus is present in Patagonia and northeastern South America. Studies covered a broad range of elevations from 30 to 3500 m a.s.l. but was limited to 1–730 mm y−1 MAP, excluding more humid climates where Prosopis occurs. Results obtained from 32 dendrochronological studies and eight studies relating to Prosopis and hydrology, were grouped into sub-disciplines of tree-ring formation and the hydrosystem, dendroclimatology, dendrohydrology, and dendroecology. The review highlights the unique affinities of Prosopis to arid conditions, and the use of tree rings as a proxy for historical droughts and variability in water tables. Nonetheless, there are opportunities to expand the geographical-climatological extent of Prosopis growth research to humid climates, as well as to incorporate novel techniques such as stable isotopes and vessel size chronologies to understand how this genus records hydrological change throughout South America.Fil: Ambite, Serrana.     Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods

    We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
