Garcia-Ortega, Beatriz;Galan-Cubillo, Javier (2025). Circular Ecosystem Orchestration and Institutional Change in the Fashion Industry
[EN] Transitioning towards a circular economy largely depends on lead firms’ ability to orchestrate circular ecosystems. Although the literature on orchestration mechanisms for delivering circular value is expanding, it remains unclear how these micro-level mechanisms interact with and drive macro-level institutional change. This study addresses this gap by developing a circular ecosystem orchestration framework for institutional change. Initial mechanism dimensions—standardising, nurturing and negotiating—and their categories are deductively derived from the existing literature and then refined inductively through an analysis of the sustainability reports of 15 leading fashion firms, covering the fast fashion, luxury and sportswear segments. The findings provide a more granular and conceptually holistic orchestration framework, revealing a novel building dimension and highlighting concurrent, mutually reinforcing interactions between mechanisms. At the institutional level, all dimensions directly target the normative pillar to foster shared circular norms and values, while the nurturing and standardising dimensions additionally target the cognitive and regulatory pillars, respectively. The resulting framework bridges the existing micro–macro disconnect, lays the foundations for future cross-sectoral research and offers strategic guidance for managers seeking to drive systemic change and advance circularity.Garcia-Ortega, Beatriz;Galan-Cubillo, Javier;Do, NQ.;Stevenson, M. Decoding business strategies toward sufficient consumption in the fashion industry
[EN] Purpose - The purpose of this study is to investigate corporate strategies promoting sufficiency-oriented consumption (sufficient consumption) across various fashion segments, analysing strategies adopted, identifying patterns, assessing communication consistency across channels, detecting potential anti-consumerist washing practices, a form of greenwashing and offering managerial lessons. Design/methodology/approach - This exploratory qualitative study assesses corporate communication through the lens of the promotion of sufficient consumption, utilising a three-pillar framework from contemporary literature. It analyses the latest annual reports, websites and social media content on Facebook and Instagram from 15 prominent companies representing fast fashion, luxury and born-sustainable fashion segments. Findings - The study reveals varying degrees of strategy adoption, with limited implementation undermining potential synergies. Companies across segments, including born-sustainable firms, exhibit inconsistent communication, compromising their credibility and sustainability efforts. This indicates widespread anti-consumerist washing and highlights difficulties and resistance in effectively integrating sufficiency into their corporate sustainability strategies. Research limitations/implications - The study encourages scholars to expand the sample and timeframe and urges fashion firms to prioritise more holistic, consistent, genuine commitment to sufficiency. Originality/value - It enriches and validates the adopted framework applicability, offers new empirical evidence in business promotion of sufficient consumption and anti-consumerist washing, extends the paradox of sustainability in fashion to born-sustainable firms despite their natural inclination to adopt innovative business models and initiatives and provides clues to help managers and stakeholders support sufficient consumption effectively, guiding the industry towards a more circular, sustainable future. This publication is part of the R+D+I project PID2021-124396NB-I00, funded by MICIU/AEI/10.13039/501100011033 and by "ERDF A way of making Europe" and Grant C-SEJ-148-UGR23 funded by Consejeria de Universidad, Investigacion e Innovacion and by ERDF Andalusia Program 2021-2027.Garcia-Ortega, Beatriz;Galan-Cubillo, Javier;Morozova, D.;Llorens-Montes, FJ.
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
