Eucharistic Transformation. Thomas Aquinas’ Adoro Te Devote

    No full text
Originally the Adoro te devote was not a liturgical hymn but a prayer, probably intended by Thomas Aquinas for personal use when attending mass. Quoting the at present most reliable version of the poem, the author studies Adoro te devote from the angle of transformation: poetic, Eucharistic and mystic or eschatological transformation. Structure and form are analysed, and a number of themes discussed: two alternative interpretations of adoration, several concepts of truth intended in the poem, the good thief and doubting Thomas as symbols of moral and spiritual imperfection, and (present and future) living in connection, in union with God

Biblical Argumentation in a Synodal Sermon Expergiscimini hodie anime devote by Johannes Marienwerder

    No full text
Johannes Marienwerder (vel Jan z Kwidzyna) is the probable author of the late medieval synodal sermon Expergiscimini hodie anime devote. It is believed to have been delivered in Prague after 1384. The article analyzes the numerous biblical texts (more than eighty) used in the sermon. An analysis of a hermeneutical nature of these texts was also attempted. The main theme is the verse from Isa 57:1: “The righteous perishes, and no one cares.” The sermon has an elaborate internal structure and should be interpreted in reference to the so-called new theology, devotio moderna.Argumentacja biblijna w kazaniu synodalnym Expergiscimini hodie anime devote Jana z Kwidzyna Jan z Kwidzyna (vel Johannes Marienwerder) jest możliwym autorem późnośredniowiecznej mowy synodalnej Expergiscimini hodie anime devote. Została ona wygłoszona w Pradze po roku 1384. W artykule poddano analizie liczne teksty biblijne (ponad osiemdziesiąt) przywołane w treści kazania. Podjęto próbę określenia głównych cech hermeneutyki tekstów biblijnych. Motyw przewodni stanowi werset z Iz 51. Sprawiedliwy ginie, ale nikt się tym nie przejmuje. Mowa posiada rozbudowaną strukturę wewnętrzną. Jednocześnie należy ją interpretować w relacji do tzw. nowej teologii devotio moderna

The literature contains articles on community-developed codes such as AstroPy (Astropy Collaboration et al. 2013, 2018) and yt4 (Turk et al. 2011), their importance in research, and the need for supporting these important codes and those who devote time and effort building and sustaining these resources (Turk 2013; Muna et al. 2016), but has comparatively little about the body of software written by 1, 2, or 3 people, what we here refer to as short author list (SAL) codes. A recent examination of the 1978 entries currently in the Astrophysics Source Code Library (ASCL,ascl.net) (Nemiroff & Wallin 1999) reveals that 1348 of them, 68%, are SAL codes

Home Cooking, Food Consumption and Food Production among the Unemployed and Retired Households

    No full text
Utilizing the 1996 Canadian Food Expenditure survey matched with Canadian Nutrient File, we separate actual food consumption from observed expenditure and test the Permanent Income/Life Cycle Hypothesis on the true consumption data. We find that the lower food expenditure during periods of unemployment or retirement (previously reported in the literature), does not translate into poorer nutrition. Household calorie intake and major nutrient intake seem to be unaffected by changes in employment status. We find evidence that unemployed or retired households substitute food purchased from restaurants for food purchased for at home consumption. Further, with the 1998 Time Use Survey we find that individuals who are not employed devote more time for food preparation. Finally we present limited evidence that unemployed and retired households substitute precooked meals for meals made from primary ingredients.Food Production, Nutrition, Consumption Smoothing

Bracelet+: Harvesting the Leaked RF Energy in VLC with Wearable Bracelet Antenna

    No full text
Visible Light Communication (VLC) is widely considered a promising technology for the coming 6G networks. Recent studies show that a VLC transmitter not only emits visible light signals but also leaks RF signals during the transmission. In this work, we devote effort to harvesting the free leaked RF energy from VLC transmissions. We observe that the surrounding objects could help a coil antenna harvest significantly more RF energy. Based on this observation, we propose our system Bracelet+, which involves the human body in the harvesting system to increase the harvested power. After careful analysis of the influence of the human body on the harvested power, we prototype the coil antenna as a bracelet that achieves both high harvested power and convenience for wearing. The average power of the RF energy harvested by our design is 10 larger than that of the conventional coil antenna, without causing any interference to the communication of VLC systems. The harvested power can reach up to micro-watts in our tested scenarios. Such a micro-watt level of harvested energy has the potential to power up ultra-low-power sensors such as temperature sensors and glucose sensors.Green Open Access added to TU Delft Institutional Repository 'You share, we take care!' - Taverne project https://www.openaccess.nl/en/you-share-we-take-care Otherwise as indicated in the copyright section: the publisher is the copyright holder of this work and the author uses the Dutch legislation to make this work public.Embedded System

Tapping Economies of Scale and Scope in Consumer Cooperation - A Case Analysis of Possible Cooperation among selected Cooperatives

    No full text
Because of its narrow and negative perspective of safeguarding the interests of only poor consumers against unethical practices of the private traders, consumer cooperation in India seems to have failed, except probably in some isolated pockets. A number of social welfare functions like poverty alleviation and public distribution of essential items of consumption have been imposed on them at the cost of their basic economics. With the basic micro and macro-economic rationale for consumer cooperatives as a positive form of economic organization being lost sight of, they seem to be facing enormous problems both historically as well as currently in a era of economic liberalization. Their worries seem to have been compounded with the threat of impending competition from large private enterpriss - both domestic and foreign, which highlights the need for evolving strategies to rectivy their systemic weaknesses and tackling the competition head on. This case has attempted to document just such an initiative through a round table conference with several doyens of the consumer cooperative movement in India such as Warana Bazar and Amalsad Mandali as well as some fledging consumer cooperatives from West Bengal which are already in existence for some time or contemplating entry into this field. The roundtable conference organized in the spirit of Cooperation among Cooperatives attempted to evolve strategies to capture economies of scale and scope in order to take on the competition, as well as to facilitate dissemination of ideas and information across the country.

It Is Me, Chatbot: Working to Address the COVID-19 Outbreak-Related Mental Health Issues in China. User Experience, Satisfaction, and Influencing Factors

    No full text
The global spread of COVID-19 has caused a huge number of confirmed cases and deaths, which in return leads to a plethora of mental disorders across the world. In order to address citizens’ psychological problems, government agencies in many countries have employed AI-based chatbots to provide mental health services. However, there is a limited understanding of the determinants affecting citizens’ user experience and user satisfaction when mental health services supported by chatbots are provided. Thus, based on the Theory of Consumption Values (TCV), this study proposes an analytical framework to investigate the factors that are important to citizens’ user experience and user satisfaction when they interact with mental health chatbots. Analysis of data collected from 295 chatbot users in Wuhan and Chongqing reveals that personalization, enjoyment, learning, and condition are positively related to user experience and user satisfaction. However, voice interaction fails to devote to citizens’ user experience and user satisfaction. Thus, government agencies and their AI service contractors should enhance the functions and systems of mental health chatbots to ensure citizens’ user experience and user satisfaction. Also, they should more positively promote the use of mental health chatbots during the public health emergency.Green Open Access added to TU Delft Institutional Repository ‘You share, we take care!’ – Taverne project https://www.openaccess.nl/en/you-share-we-take-care Otherwise as indicated in the copyright section: the publisher is the copyright holder of this work and the author uses the Dutch legislation to make this work public.Information and Communication Technolog
