Gusmerotti, Joseph J., collection, 1919-1968
Joseph J. Gusmerotti was born to Joseph John and Margarita Malacarne Gusmerotti Sr. in Chicopee, Kansas on April 23, 1907. After graduating from Crawford Community High School in 1926, he moved to Detroit, Michigan and was first employed by the Chrysler Corporation as a typist. Gusmerotti was promoted into many areas of packaging, shipping, and exporting at Chrysler during his career. He also studied at the Chrysler Institute of Engineering from 1939-1941. In 1958, Gusmerotti was promoted to Special Assignments Overseas where he would document the operation of international parts warehouses for Chrysler in multiple countries. After working at the Chrysler Corporation for 42 years, he retired in 1968. This collection consists of documents, letters, and photos regarding Joseph J. Servizi ecosistemici e biodiversità: una nuova prospettiva per un’economia più sostenibile
Purpose of paper: is paper aims at building a bridge among management studies, natural sciences and ecological economics. Concepts such as ecosystem services and biodiversity are introduced with the purpose to provide a new perspective to sustainability management.
Methodology: e paper is theoretical. Constructs and tools developed in other disciplines are illustrated and discussed in order to provide a new knowledge platform to management studies.
Results: e main results are: a) a theoretical framework to illustrate the relation of interdependence between the rm with the social-ecological systems; b) an exam of the most important economic tools developed to protect ecosystem services and biodiversity; c) analyze the main implications of the management of the rm.Limits of the study: is is a rst study aiming at opening new research avenues both theoretical and empirical. Qualitative (e.g. case studies) and quantitative research can stem from this contribution.
Practical implications: e theoretical framework and the economic tools analyzed in this paper provide several hints and suggestions to develop a more environmentally sustainable management strategy.
Novelty of the paper: e paper broadens managerial literature introducing new constructs and concepts from natural sciences. is new perspective helps to position the rm into the social-ecological system, favoring a more coherent interpretation of the relation of interdependence with the natural environment
Fostering the Circular Economy with Blockchain Technology: Insights from a Bibliometric Approach
: The circular economy is an emerging paradigm with important economic, environmental, and societal implications. As the world faces such paradigm shifts, new and radical technologies are urgently needed to enable it; blockchain technology can assist to accomplish the aforementioned circular economy shift given its decentralization and distributiveness principles as well as its smart contract capability. This study represents one of the first attempts to analyze those academic research domains together adopting a science mapping technique. By adopting such approach, the study envisages research challenges, highlights important research gaps, and proposes future paths in the blockchain and circular economy fields. Among the others, key findings show that blockchain technology as a tool for promoting the circular economy has been extensively researched at the micro (i.e., firm) and meso levels (i.e., supply chain) more effort on how blockchain can support the development of circular smart cites and measurement tools for providing information to stakeholders and assisting in policy creation expresses the greatest potential in terms of novel research. Moreover, the research suggests that another possible stream of research might be dealing on how blockchain together with physical technologies (e.g., 3D printing, RFID), can support the transition towards the circular economy
The Relevance of the Circular Economy for Climate Change: An Exploration through the Theory of Change Approach
The relevance of the circular economy for climate change is still a developing area of research that needs to be explored. This paper aims to provide an overview of the relevance of the circular economy for climate change through the theory of change approach framework. For this purpose, we analysed 96 articles from the Scopus and WoS databases in the "Arts and Humanities, Business, Management and Accounting, Economics, Econometrics and Finance and Social Sciences," with the keywords "Circular economy" and "Climate Change". Our analysis shows that 87% of the reviewed articles showed a strong relevance of the circular economy for climate change. However, most of the articles focused on the mitigation aspect of climate change. The circular economy is widely practised in countries such as the United Kingdom, Italy, Belgium, and China. Our main theoretical contribution is in developing a logical framework through the theory of change, which is a novel approach in social science research apart from monitoring and evaluation studies
The role of consumer trade-offs in limiting the transition towards circular economy: The case of brand and plastic concern
Several green consumer behavior models have tried to explain how individual behaviours interrelate with green consumption. However, the growing environmental awareness of consumers as well as the complexity of environmental challenges requires additional research to explore how consumers deals with such logics. Better understanding of the complexity of consumer decision making process and how conflicting logics can generate tensions in a purchasing decision is detrimental in the transition towards a more circular economy. This paper attempts to examine the links between a set of key factors such as recycled material, brand loyalty and plastic concern able to predict a consumers’ behavior model. In details, with the help of a self-administered questionnaire, we conducted a 2 × 2 experiment between subjects involving a sample of 1000 individuals, representative of Italian and Spanish population from 18 to 75 years old. Data acquired were then analysed applying Structural Equation Modelling. Results returned convey how recycled product and plastic concern have a direct influence on consumers’ attitude towards the product and its perceived value, thus influencing their buying behaviours. Moreover, results suggest also that plastic concern negatively mediates the positive effect of recycled material on product attitude and its perceived value. In light of such results, conclusions suggest how to develop green marketing campaigns and communication strategies able to raise green behaviours
Extended Producer Responsibility and the Evolution of Sustainable Specializations: Evidences From the e-Waste Sector
Extended producer responsibility (EPR) is an environmental policy approach that could potentially have a positive impact on different determinants of the business environment, including scientific production. Despite that, direct and indirect impacts on those national research environments where EPR is not directly implemented are under-represented in the current literature. Based on a dataset of 411 papers related to e-waste published in the period between 2001 and 2011, our study explores the research dynamics of the e-waste literature and presents a map of the main areas of interest. Two representations of the geographical time frames of research depict the on-going reshaping of worldwide technical specializations and inform policy makers on the evolution of regional needs and competences. The conclusions highlight the importance of worldwide impact assessments of EPR in order to achieve both industrial and environmental goals
