Testing isotropy of light propagation with cmb polarization data
Lorentz symmetry violations are expected to emerge when spacetime is probed on very short distance scales, of the order of the Planck length (10ô35m), and can produce anomalous light propagation. CMB photons provide a way to test spacetime on these very small scales thanks to their long propagation time, during which propagation anomalies can accumulate. Here we concentrate on a quite generic model for Lorentz-violating electrodynamics, leading to energy-dependent birefringence, whose amount varies with the propagation direction of radiation if space isotropy is also violated. We present the current constraints on isotropic birefringence and show that data gathered by the PLANCK satellite will reach the sensitivity required to test spacetime symmetries up to the Planck-scale. Moreover, we show that the availability of an almost full-sky coverage can allow to perform also accurate tests on non-isotropic birefringence effects. This report is mainly based on works by the author and collaborators. 1;2;3

PLANCK-SCALE INDUCED BIREFRINGENCE AND CMB POLARIZATION DATA
We mainly summarize the results reported in a previous work with Pagano, Amelino- Camelia, Melchiorri and Cooray (JCAP 0908:021,2009), which showed, working within a phenomenological model first proposed by Myers and Pospelov, that presently-available Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) polarization data can provide Planck-scale sensitivity to quantum-gravity-induced in-vacuo-birefringence effects. We also observe that improvements in sensitivity of a few orders of magnitude is achievable with planned CMB polarization measurements, and we comment on how systematic effects of CMB experiments could influence these constraints. Update on sutureless thyroidectomy
Summary: Modified transverse coloplasty pouch: new reconstruction techniques after total mesorectal excision, our experience. r. ruGGIero, G. DocImo, a. BoSco, m. lanzavolPe, G. terraccIano, a. GuBItoSI, l. DocImo Introduction. The Harmonic scalpel (“Focus“ and the new version “Focus+”) is one of the first devices for surgical simultaneous cutting and tissue coagulation which allows to obtain dissection and hemostasis by direct application of ultrasound and allows minimally invasive surgical procedures with minimal lateral thermal spread and, thus, minimal adjacent tissue destruction. The aim of the study is to complete the previous study that we made in 2014, based on the TT performed between January 2008 and December 2013, with new data about TT performed in our Surgical Division between January
2014 and December2016 and compare the outcome using the Ultrasonic scalpel versus the device Ligasure in term of safety, operative time, overall drainage volume, complications, hospital stay. materials and methods. 250 patients were randomized into two groups: Group A where Ultracision were used and Group B where the Ligasure device was used. Results. The results of the group A and of the Group B 2014-2016 have been compared with the results of the previous study and we found that they are similar, but asymptomatic hypocalcaemia increased in the patients of the new study. conclusions. We found that the use of Ultrasonic scalpel and Ligasure is effective both in the hemostasis of all vessels and in dissection of tissues and confirm the results of our first study without significant difference in the rate of post-operative morbidity with these two different energy based devices used
Reappraisal of a model for deformed special relativity
We revisit one of the earliest proposals for deformed dispersion relations in the light of recent results on dynamical dimensional reduction and production of cosmological fluctuations. Depending on the specification of the measure of integration and the addition rule in momentum space the model may be completed so as to merely deform Lorentz invariance, or so as to introduce a preferred frame. Models which violate Lorentz invariance have a negative UV asymptotic dimension and a very red spectrum of quantum vacuum fluctuations. Instead, models which preserve frame independence can exhibit running to a UV dimension of two, and a scale-invariant spectrum of fluctuations. The bispectrum of the fluctuations is another point of divergence between the two casings proposed here for the original model
