Cathode materials considerably limit the properties of Li-ion batteries due to the loss of capacity associated to irreversible phase transformation suffering some materials undergo at high potentials. Cation doping of the cathode materials is one of the best strategies to improve the structural and electrochemical properties; however, the solubility of metal ions is limited, and the intention of doping can result in the formation of impurities or secondary phases. In this work, the effect of partial substitution of copper ions by manganese, iron or nickel ions in Li2CuO2 is evaluated. The presence of the dopant transition metal ion provokes modifications in the intra- and inter-chain interactions, associated with the variations in the Cu-O-Cu bond angle and to the changes in the magnetic order. Among all the samples, only the partial substitution by manganese revealed a drastic improvement in capacitance retention during charge/discharge processes, even at potentials above 3.9 V vs Li+ /Li. Structural and electrochemical characterization of Li2CuO2 samples with Mn as a dopant revealed that doping causes modifications in cell parameters that provide structural stability among all samples; futheremore, the maximum solubility of Mn was determined to be 10% mol. Within the doping range where pure phase formation is achieved, 3.5%, 5% and 7.5% mol Mn substitution revealed significant improvement in charge retention and higher capacities. However, the specific capacity and energy density of these materials is still limited; in order to increase these properties other alternatives were sought. In order to promote phase mixing and study its effect on the electrochemical performance, the incorporation of Cu into LiNiO2 was evaluated. Structural characterizations indicate an ordered crystalline structure with a high degree of cationic order, where the presence of Cu3+ was confirmed by XPS. By in situ XRD, it was shown that the presence of Cu enhances charge retention, due to structural stability during insertion/deinsertion of Li ions. Furthermore, the presence of Cu, within the LiNiO2 crystal structure, demonstrated a specific capacity retention of 95%, a high value compared to the 45% observed in LiNiO2 after 10 cycles in a 3.0-4.3 V vs Li0 /Li+ , potential window.

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis

Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods

The formation of oxygen is one of the main factors contributing to the degradation of lithiumion battery cathode materials at high voltages, resulting in low coulombic efficiency and battery safety issues. Introducing different ions in the structure of these materials, to modify their electrochemical behavior and to combat the evolution of O2 has been previously proposed and implemented; although the benefits of these modifications are evident, the nature of these modifications is not fully understood. In this work, a multidisciplinary approach is used to study the effects of fluorine doping on the evolution of oxygen in Li2CuO2 cathodes. To dope lithium cuprate and determine the effects on the electrochemical behavior of the material, a synthesis strategy was established to incorporate fluorine into the structure of the material, ideally in oxygen sites. Through the fitting of the diffraction patterns, the presence of fluorine in the synthesized samples was confirmed, detecting a contraction in the unit cell of Li2CuO2, in the a and c directions, verifying the results through 19F solid state NMR. As a result of F-doping, the electrochemical results suggest a modification of the electrochemical properties, showing a higher reversible capacity. Unmodified Li2CuO2 only discharges 83 mAh g-1 on the tenth cycle, while lithium cuprate doped with 5.0 mol % of fluorine reaches a discharge capacity of 133 mAh g-1 on the tenth cycle. Although the electrochemical improvements are attributed to the presence of F in the structure of Li2CuO2, in situ X-ray diffraction studies during the galvanostatic cycling rule out an improvement in structural stability. However, DEMS in operando determined that the evolution of oxygen in F-doped lithium cuprate is effectively inhibited.

The Li2CuO2 doping strategies reported in this work demonstrate that the addition of one or two transition metal (TM) cations at a molar nominal concentration of 2.5 % is possible because its incorporation causes modifications in the structural properties of the material such as the unit cell volume and the length of the lattice parameters but without the presence of secondary phases; particularly in Co-Li2CuO2, the concentration determined by atomic absorption is very similar to the nominal concentration used in the synthesis. Regarding the electrochemical characterization, in a potential window of 1.5 to 4.2 V vs. Li0 /Li+ , the addition of Co ion as a dopant increases slightly the discharge capacity (203 mAhg-1 ) and charge retention (56.7 %) of the doped material, in comparison with that presented by the pristine material synthesized (202 mAhg-1 and 55.4 % of charge retention). Contrarily, the other doped materials didn´t improve these properties. The doped material with Ni ion increased its discharge capacity (252 mAhg-1 ) in the first cycle with respect to the pristine material; however, the instability and decreased charge retention (21.3 %) of the material are associated with the oxygen evolution and the segregated phases formation. In doped materials with two TM, a decrease in discharge capacity (160 mAhg-1 for CoMnLi2CuO2 and 182 mAhg-1 for NiMn-Li2CuO2) and charge retention (38.3 % and 39.3 % respectively) were obtained. The Mn ion addition as the second TM influenced in the material stability depending on the other doping agent, when was added with Ni ions, the stability improved; however, an opposite behavior was identified when was added with Co ions. These characteristics allow Co-Li2CuO2 to be considered as a material that could be suitable for use as cathode material for Li-ion batteries
