A Conversation with Lorri Jean (Law '82)
In this interview, LGBT rights activist Lorri L. Jean (Law ‘82), CEO of the Los Angeles LGBT Center, speaks on her life as a lesbian activist and movement leader, with special focus on her involvement as one of the lead plaintiffs in the landmark civil rights lawsuit filed in 1980 against Georgetown University by two student groups: the Gay People of Georgetown University and the Gay Rights Coalition of Georgetown University Law Center. The interview was hosted by GU Pride and co-moderated by GU Pride President Matthew Failor and Dr. Amena Johnson, Associate Director of the LGBTQ Resource Center at Georgetown University since 2019
Residents’ support in major local events: Leeds Pride
This article examines the extent to which community participation and perceived impacts have an influence on residents’ support of major events, more specifically, the Leeds Pride celebration. The research examines the perspectives of 400 Leeds permanent residents. The study tests a structural equation model, which has its theoretical basis in Social Exchange Theory. It examines the constructs of community participation, perceived positive and negative impacts, and community support, including the actual participation of locals in the event. The findings reveal that the actual participation of locals to decision-making influences their perspectives on community participation. The support is influenced by views of the perceived impacts, whilst community participation has no direct influence. Conversely, the community involvement in decision-making considerably influences the perceived benefits and costs of the event, acting as a moderator, while the willingness of support is connected with the community’s participation. Finally, the article discusses theoretical and managerial aspects for major event planning and development

‘Normalized’ Pride? : Pride parade participants in six European countries
Based on quantitative survey data collected during Pride parades in six European countries – the Czech Republic, Great Britain, Italy, the Netherlands, Sweden, and Switzerland – we analyse who participates in Pride parades. Engaging with the so-called protest normalization thesis we ask: are Pride parade participants, aside from sexual orientation, representative of the wider populace? In none of the countries could we find indications that Pride participants mirror the general populations. The parades remain dominated by well-educated, middle strata youth, rich in political resources. However, we find variation between countries, which we link to differences in elite and public support for LGBT rights. © 2017, The Author(s) 2017

Venus Expess radio occultation observed by PRIDE
The Planetary Radio Interferometry and Doppler Experiment (PRIDE) is a technique that can enhance the sciencereturn of planetary missions. By shadow tracking the spacecraft signal using radio telescopes from VLBI networks, the PRIDE technique provides precise open-loop Doppler and near-field VLBI observables (Duev et al. 2012,Bocanegra-Bahamon et al. 2018a) to find the radial velocity of the spacecraft and its position in the plane of thesky. This information is not only important for navigation, but it can also be used for many science applications. One such case is the study of planetary atmospheres by means of radio occultation experiments.Astrodynamics & Space Mission
PRIDE: Ground-based VLBI observations for Spaceborne Probes
Planetary Radio Interferometry and Doppler Experiment (PRIDE) will exploit the signal recording and processing technology developed originally for Very Lonag Baseline interferometric (VLBI). The essence of PRIDE is in observing the spacecraft radio signal with a network of Earth-based radio telescopes. The PRIDE technique developed at the Joint Institute for VLBI ERIC (JIVE) together with its partners was used for several experiments with several ESA planetary science missions. It has been chosen by ESA as one of the eleven experiments of the Jupiter Icy Moons Explorer (JUICE), the first Large-class mission in the ESA’s Cosmic Vision 2015–2025 program. The mission is scheduled for launch in 2022.EPSC Abstracts Vol., EPSC2020-647, 2020Astrodynamics & Space MissionsPhysical and Space Geodes
