The quantitative geomorphic analysis is an effective and widely used tool for the study of watersheds and hydrographic networks. In particular, previous studies showed the existence of correlations between geomorphic parameters and sediment transport at watershed scale. GIS techniques are widely used in geomorphic analysis and at this aim processing tools and applications were proposed in the past, mainly based on commercial software. In the present paper, the original application QMorpho-Stream is presented. The application was developed in QGIS environment, that is currently one of the most widely used free open source Geographic Information System. QMorphoStream is composed of several processing tools which are sequentially executed to perform all the steps of quantitative geomorphic analysis of a watershed and hydrographic network. Results are given as layers and tables that are added to the QGIS map. The processing tools were developed using the Python programming language. The main properties of the algorithms and implemented solutions for the different procedures are hereby presented and discussed. Example applications on two watersheds in southern Italy are also presented. The development of QMorphoStream is part of a research project aiming at developing methods to estimate the sediment supply from river basins to physiographic unities, in the wider frame of evaluating the effects of climate changes on territory

The present work presents the results of the investigation carried out in the framework of a Technical Agreement between the ENEA (Italian National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development) and the local Authorities, aimed to the assessment of soil erosion in the area of San Giuliano di Puglia municipality (central-southern Italy) by means of the RUSLE model. The model allowed to individuate the areas subject to deep erosion and to the risk of negative impacts on infrastructures. Notwithstanding the combination of relatively good climatic and morphologic conditions, the most part of the area suffers from severe to very severe erosion, in tight connection with the extent of arable lands; 42% of the area is subject to negligible to moderate erosion, thanks to woods and olive covers mostly present in the western portion and to the gentle slopes scattered throughout the territory; 1% of the area is prone to major erosion rates (> 200 Mg ha-1 year-1). These latter are concentrated on the slopes around the built-up area of San Giuliano, mostly on the eastern side. Protection and mitigation actions should be addressed in this area where catastrophic erosion and the associated risk of slope mass wasting (mudflows) threaten people and infrastructures

Il valore medio dell'erosione riferito all'intera area risulta pari a 44.4 Mg ha-1 anno-1. The present work aims to provide an assessment of soil erosion by means of the RUSLE model combined with different interpolation methods, in a Region of Italy where soil information is lacking and soil erosion risk is overlooked in land policies. The work concerns an area 4,000 km2 wide in the southern part of Latium (central Italy) and is based on simplified procedures for RUSLE factors calculation and on available rainfall, soil, land-cover and elevation data archives. The model results are shown in a map displaying that most of the area is characterized by very low or negligible soil erosion rates, on the average. Major soil loss affects areas on the central mountain ridge and inland areas with strong relief. On the average, the soil loss rate amounts to 44.4 Mg ha-1 year-1. Given the lack of field observations to validate the modelled erosion rates, the map just can give an idea of the potential impact of erosion processes. Notwithstanding this limitation, the present work can support policy making in regional management and planning. The map will be updated once new information and details will be available

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
