    Monitoring palm tree seedlings and plantlings presents a formidable challenge because of the microscopic size of these organisms and the absence of distinguishing morphological characteristics. There is a demand for technical approaches that can provide restoration specialists with palm tree seedling monitoring systems that are high-resolution, quick, and environmentally friendly. It is possible that counting plantlings and identifying them down to the genus level will be an extremely time-consuming and challenging task. It has been demonstrated that convolutional neural networks, or CNNs, are effective in many aspects of image recognition; however, the performance of CNNs differs depending on the application. The performance of the existing CNN-based models for monitoring and predicting plantlings growth could be further improved. To achieve this, a novel Gap Layer modified CNN architecture (GL-CNN) has been proposed with an IoT effective monitoring system and UAV technology. The UAV is employed for capturing plantlings images and the IoT model is utilized for obtaining the ground truth information of the plantlings health. The proposed model is trained to predict the successful and poor seedling growth for a given set of palm tree plantling images. The proposed GL-CNN architecture is novel in terms of defined convolution layers and the gap layer designed for output classification. There are two 64×3 conv layers, two 128×3 conv layers, two 256×3 conv layers and one 512×3 conv layer for processing of input image. The output obtained from the gap layer is modulated using the ReLU classifier for determining the seedling classification. To evaluate the proposed system, a new dataset of palm tree plantlings was collected in real time using UAV technology. This dataset consists of images of palm tree plantlings. The evaluation results showed that the proposed GL-CNN model performed better than the existing CNN architectures with an average accuracy of 95.96%.</div

    Present and past experiences in GL management and research: A questionnaire survey on Italian participants to GL Events

    Libraries carry out a central role in the process of dissemination of scientific information. Particularly regarding grey literature, libraries have played a key role in overcoming obstacles to full access thereby contributing to the full inclusion of grey literature in the scientific communication network. This activity has been carried out with the development of grey literature produced within their organizations through specific collection-development policies and ad hoc bibliographic and editorial strategies. What issues connected with the planning of collections and with management of GL documents have been encountered and solved? Moreover, recently, a number of libraries are promoting or supporting open archives. To what extent do they profit from their experience in GL management in the realization of institutional repositories or of ongoing projects on open access? The aim of the paper is to examine the different approaches and strategies of a number of Italian special libraries, that hold high-quality collections and whose users have a high specialization, basically, towards their: a) management of historical and special GL collections; b) development and management of current GL collections; c) realization of institutional repositories or projects on open access. The survey makes use of a semi-structured questionnaire, which was submitted to a number of managers of Italian special libraries, of governmental institutes or research institutes. The questionnaire consists of fifty questions designed to capture all the information relevant to the above mentioned goals (a), (b), and (c). The questions are grouped into five sections: (1) general questions, and detailed questions on consistence and quality of GL collections; (2) detailed questions about the management and bibliographic description of GL documents, included the cost of the management of GL documents and people dedicated to them; (3) questions about past, current and future projects on GL education and training; (4) questions about current and future initiative regarding institutional repositories or open archives, and their link to the experience of GL management. scienze sociali. Moreover, each part of the questionnaire includes a set of questions on both objective and subjective data, that express value judgements. GL managers are asked to respond in the light of their personal experience as "privileged observers", in the commonly accepted meaning of this term in the social sciences.     Amphiphilic poly[(ε-caprolactone)-co-glycolide]-block-poly(ethylene glycol)-block-poly[(ε-caprolactone)- co-glycolide) [P(CL-GL)-PEG-P(CL-GL)] triblock copolymers with different average lengths of caproyl sequences (LCL) were synthesized by ring-opening polymerization at different temperatures. A 25% aqueous solution of the copolymer with LCL=11.0 formed a gel, owing to strong crystallinity-induced hydrophobicity at low temperature, and underwent a gel-sol transition (UCST behavior) when the temperature was increased to 40℃. In contrast, the solution of copolymer with LCL=6.7 underwent a sol-gel transition (LCST behavior) due to micelle aggregation.     GL Transparency: Through a Glass Clearly

    GL (Grey literature, interpreted here as grey objects) is very heterogeneous in content, form and quality. Most GL objects evolve through a workflow. Some of these phases involve some form of evaluation or peer review, commonly internal within the management structure of an organisation and possibly involving external advice, including from "friendly peers" via an e-preprint mechanism. Unlike white literature the evaluation process commonly is unrecorded and undocumented. This leads to accusations that grey literature lacks quality and transparency.
