From quantum stochastic differential equations to Gisin-Percival state diffusion

    No full text
Starting from the quantum stochastic differential equations of Hudson and Parthasarathy Commun. Math. Phys. 93, 301 (1984) and exploiting the Wiener-Itô-Segal isomorphism between the boson Fock reservoir space (L2(+)(nn)) and the Hilbert space L2(μ), where μ is the Wiener probability measure of a complex n-dimensional vector-valued standard Brownian motion (B(t),t0), we derive a non-linear stochastic Schrödinger equation describing a classical diffusion of states of a quantum system, driven by the Brownian motion B. Changing this Brownian motion by an appropriate Girsanov transformation, we arrive at the Gisin-Percival state diffusion equation N. Gisin and J. Percival, J. Phys. A 167, 315 (1992). This approach also yields an explicit solution of the Gisin-Percival equation, in terms of the Hudson-Parthasarathy unitary process and a randomized Weyl displacement process. Irreversible dynamics of system density operators described by the well-known Gorini-Kossakowski-Sudarshan-Lindblad master equation is unraveled by coarse-graining over the Gisin-Percival quantum state trajectories. © 2017 Author(s)

Improved implementation of the Alicki–Van Ryn nonclassicality test for a single particle using Si detectors

    No full text
Recently a test of nonclassicality for a single qubit was proposed [R. Alicki and N. Van Ryn, J. Phys. A: Math. Theor. 41, 062001 (2008)]. We present an optimized experimental realization of this test leading to a 46 standard deviation violation of classicality. This factor of 5 improvement over our previous result was achieved by moving from the infrared to the visible where we can take advantage of higher efficiency and lower noise photon detectors

A New Genus and Species of Isotomidae (Collembola), and a Redescription of \u3ci\u3eCryptopygus Exilus\u3c/i\u3e (Gisin) N. Comb

A new genus and species of Collembola in the family lsotomidae are described from Michigan: Micranurophorus musci n. g., n. sp. A redescription of Cryptopygus exilis (Gisin) (= Isotomina exilis Gisin) is also given, based on specimens from Michigan. The new genus is characterized by the lack of a furcula and by abdominal chaetotaxy similar to Isotomodes. It is related to Pseudanurophorus

We have described specimens of P. bicampata basing on the material from Heilongjiang (Honghe Farm and Xinqing national forest park) and Jilin (Manjiang) in 2013 (Sun et al. 2013 b). As more and more specimens being checked from northeast China, P. bicampata is found widespread in this area and its characters have some interspecific variations: psx present or absent on the subcoxa 1 of legs; the inner tooth on unguis present or absent and the anal spines shorter (about 0.6 times) or as long as inner edge of unguis. These variations were also found in Poland (Pomorski 1998), Eastern Europe and Tuva Republic (Kaprus’pers. comm.).Published as part of Sun, Xin, Chang, Liang & Wu, Donghui, 2015, New species and new records of Protaphorura species from northeast China (Collembola: Onychiuridae), pp. 381-392 in Zootaxa 3920 (2) on page 382, DOI: 10.11646/zootaxa.3920.2.9, http://zenodo.org/record/23831

Polarization mode dispersion for single-mode fibers with polarization dependent losses

    No full text
Birefringent single-mode fibers with random polarization mode coupling and polarization dependent losses are considered. The effect of these losses on polarization mode dispersion (PMD) is computed. The relevant number is found to be the differential loss between both polarization modes over one coupling length. For polarizing fibers, the coupling length is of several kilometers, the relevant number is thus high, and the PMD is significantly reduced by the differential loss. For standard fibers, on the other hand, the coupling length is of several tens of meters, the relevant number is thus small and polarization dependent losses have a negligible effect on the PMD. © 1993.LPMGroup of Applied Physics, University of Geneva, CH-1211 Geneva 4, Switzerland Bibos, Physik Fakultät, Universität Bielefeld, W-4800 Bielefeld, GermanyCited By (since 1996): 4Export Date: 6 December 2012Source: ScopusCODEN: OPCOBLanguage of Original Document: EnglishCorrespondence Address: Gisin, N.; Group of Applied Physics, University of Geneva, CH-1211 Geneva 4, Switzerlan

A Multi-Language Comparison of Influences on Author Verification using Character N-Grams

    No full text
We create a new multi-language corpus for author verification based on Wikipedia talkpages, and evaluate the influence that differences in topic and time have on character n-gram author profiles. Topic alignment between two texts is found to increase author verification precision, and an authors writing style is found to change over time, but not more significantly after 3 years than after 1 year.Information ArchitectureWISElectrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Scienc
