A multidisciplinary approach for the air quality evaluation in industrial settlements
Il quadro normativo nazionale prevede che tutti gli impianti e le attività con impatto sull’ambiente siano sottoposti a preventiva autorizzazione, così da assicurare che lo svolgimento delle attività antropiche avvenga in linea con il principio di sviluppo sostenibile. Tali autorizzazioni contengono tutte le misure necessarie per prevenire o ridurre le emissioni in aria, acqua e suolo generate dagli stabilimenti, e la produzione di rifiuti.
I dati relativi le acque reflue industriali e urbane, le emissioni in atmosfera e la gestione dei rifiuti degli impianti soggetti ad autorizzazione generano interesse tra gli stakeholder. Sfortunatamente, non sono adeguatamente digitalizzati ed elaborati, di conseguenza spesso non sono disponibili.
L'obiettivo principale di questo progetto è quello di fornire uno strumento flessibile, interattivo e di facile utilizzo agli stakeholders per consentire loro di consultare questi tipi di dati ambientali. A tal fine è stato progettato e realizzato un database integrato con una piattaforma web GIS per la raccolta, la gestione e la condivisione dei dati relativi le emissioni inquinanti.
La piattaforma web offre agli utenti moduli informativi interconnessi sulle autorizzazioni, sui procedimenti ambientali e sui controlli analitici. Inoltre, i dati memorizzati delle industrie e sulle emissioni sono georeferenziati e visualizzati in una mappa web GIS. Le parti interessate hanno accesso gratuito, ma limitato a sezioni specifiche della piattaforma web, a seconda del loro ruolo. Possono consultare i dati ambientali e le rappresentazioni GIS, scaricare report o documenti, inserire nuovi dati.
Questa applicazione web mira a: (1) promuovere la collaborazione tra gli stakeholders, (2) semplificare il monitoraggio dello stato autorizzativo di un impianto e dei trend delle emissioni industriali, (3) ottimizzare le procedure di autorizzazione ambientale, (4) migliorare la gestione del controllo ambientale da parte delle autorità competenti, (5) sostenere la ricerca sanitaria e ambientale e (6) fornire alle industrie servizi innovativi per la trasmissione dei dati.
Per valutare le funzionalità e i vantaggi di questo nuovo strumento, è stato scelto un caso pilota e sono stati utilizzati i dati delle industrie situate nella provincia di Ascoli Piceno (regione Marche, Italia). Alcuni stakeholder (forze di polizia, autorità competenti, gestori e consulenti) sono stati coinvolti in una fase di test da ottobre 2021 a giugno 2022 per verificare le funzionalità, la flessibilità e la facilità di utilizzo dello strumento. Al termine di questa fase, sono stati raccolti feedback e consigli per future implementazioni.
Nel progetto saranno coinvolti anche ricercatori e cittadini. A tal fine, una sezione specifica sarà dedicata alla condivisione dei risultati delle valutazioni analitiche e statistiche. A questo scopo, sono state effettuate delle misurazioni dirette del particolato atmosferico (PM10) e l'analisi delle "backward air mass trajectory" in un sito pilota. Questi studi sono fondamentali per comprendere i problemi di inquinamento locale e attuare strategie ambientali specifiche, efficaci e condivise. Possono essere replicati in altre situazioni critiche e per altri tipi di inquinanti.The European regulatory framework requires prior authorization for the use of plants and activities that may impact the environment, to ensure an adequate level of environmental and human health protection. Data on industrial wastewater, urban sewage, atmospheric emissions and waste management of installations subjected to licenses generate interest among stakeholders (Environmental Protection Agencies, Police Forces, regions, provinces, municipalities, Local Health Authorities, operators, research bodies, citizens). Unfortunately, they are not properly digitized and processed, as they are often unavailable. The main goal of this project is to provide a flexible, interactive and easy-to-use tool for stakeholders to allow them to consult these types of environmental data. For this purpose, a database integrated with a web-based Geographical Information System (GIS) platform to collect, manage and share pollutant emissions data, was designed and developed. The web platform offers to users interconnected informative modules on required authorizations, license processes and analytical controls. Moreover, stored data from industries and on emissions are georeferenced and displayed in a web GIS map. Stakeholders have free but limited access to specific sections of the web platform, depending on their tasks. They can consult environmental data and GIS representations, download reports or documents, and enter new data. This web application seeks to: (1) promote collaboration among stakeholders, (2) simplify the monitoring of an installation’s authorization status and industrial emissions trends, (3) optimize the environmental licensing procedures, (4) enhance the management of environmental control by the relevant authorities, (5) support health and environmental research, and (6) provide industries with innovative services for data transmission. To evaluate the performance and benefits of this newly-developed tool, a real-life pilot case has been applied using data from industries located in the Province of Ascoli Piceno (Marche region, Italy). Some stakeholders (police forces, competent authorities, operators and consultants) were involved in a testing phase from October 2021 to June 2022 to verify the functionality, flexibility and ease-of-use of the tool. At the end of this step, feedback and advice were collected for future implementations.
Researchers and citizens will also be involved. For this purpose, a specific section will be dedicated to the sharing of results of the analytical and statistical evaluations. To develop this research section, direct measurements of atmospheric particulate matter (PM10) and backward air mass trajectory analysis were carried out in a pilot site. These studies are essential for understanding local pollution problems and implementing specific, effective and shared environmental strategies. They can be replicated in other critical situations and for other types of pollutants

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
