No full textL'obiettivo di questo libro è di riferire circa i principali risultati conseguiti da "protocolli familiari". Dopo una breve rassegna della letteratura sugli strumenti di pianificazione strategica nel contesto delle aziende familiari e sull'evoluzione del concetto di protocollo familiare, vengono presentati i risultati di una ricerca condotta in Spagna su un campione di cinquanta imprese familiari estratte fra le circa novanta che hanno redatto un protocollo familiare avvalendosi dell'assistenza professionale di persone direttamente coinvolte nella Cattedra di Family Business dello IESE. Obiettivo della ricerca è di identificare i risultati - positivi o negativi, duraturi o passeggeri - direttamente imputabili all'esistenza del protocollo familiare, o comunque influenzati dalla presenza di un protocollo familiare. L'indagine ha anche cercato di comprendere fino a che punto le cause di questi risultati possano essere attribuite al processo di formulazione del protocollo familiare, o alla sua implementazione, o alla sua supervisione continua; quali siano punti chiave evidenziati nel processo di formulazione del protocollo familiare, le principali ragioni e le circostanze che hanno portato alla formulazione del protocollo, i punti in cui c'è stato un dibattito intenso durante la sua formulazione, e di quelli che hanno contribuito in modo significativo alla unità e dedizione della famiglia.The aim of this book is to report about the main results achieved by Family Protocols. After a short literary review about Strategic Planning tools in the context of family businesses and the evolution of the idea of family protocol, it presents the results of a survey run in Spain on a sample of fifty family businesses that wrote a family protocol with professional help from people directly involved in the IESE Family Business Chair, there have been over the years 90. It aims to identify the results -either positive or negative, lasting or passengers - directly attributable to the existence of the Family Protocol, or which achievement has been influenced by the existence of a Family Protocol. The survey also sought to know to what extent the causes of these results can be attributed to the process of formulating the Family Protocol, or to its implementation, or its continuous supervision. The key points highlighted in the process of formulating the Family Protocol, the main reasons and circumstances that led to the formulation of the Protocol, the points at which there was an intense discussion during its formulation, and those that contributed most significantly to the unity and commitment of the family.El objetivo de este libro es verificar cuáles son los principales resultados alcanzados por los cincuenta Protocolos Familiares que con la ayuda profesional de personas directamente relacionadas con la Cátedra Empresa Familiar del IESE, se han formulado a lo largo de los años 90. Se pretende identificar los resultados, positivos o negativos, duraderos o pasajeros, imputables directamente a la existencia del Protocolo Familiar, o en cuya obtención éste ha tenido una influencia importante, tanto en la empresa familiar como en la familia. También se ha intentado conocer en qué medida las causas de estos resultados pueden atribuirse al proceso de formulación del Protocolo Familiar, al de su implantación, o a la continuidad en la supervisión del mismo. Se destacan los puntos clave en el proceso de formulación del Protocolo Familiar, las razones y circunstancias principales que originaron la formulación del Protocolo, los puntos en los que se produjo una discusión más intensa durante su formulación, y los que han contribuido de manera más significativa a la unidad y el compromiso de la familia
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. La Empresa Familiar Multigeneracional
No full textThe general aim of this work, “From the Founder to Multigenerational Family Business: The Family’s Crucial Role as an Owner for Longevity”, is to contribute in discovering the reasons why family businesses manage to survive. The conceptual approach taken as the starting point for this work, the information examined and the research methodology pursued by the authors involve criteria that are clearly different from those followed by the works from other scholars on the same topic.
The conceptual approach taken here springs from the conviction that the basic key to understanding the success of a multigenerational family business lies in the qualities of the people who form the ownership group , and in this it coincides with Ward (2004) . Furthermore, when this personalist approach (given that it focuses on personal qualities) is used to study an organization, and there is no doubt that a family business is a complex organization , it involves another more implicit theory regarding what the individual is and how he/she will behave.
In conceiving and developing the work that resulted in “From the Founder to Multigenerational Family Business”, we worked from the anthropological premise that views freedom as an individual’s principal quality and the ultimate basis for his or her dignity. From this one may directly conclude that one’s goal as a person must consist of improving one’s superior abilities (i.e. one’s intelligence, knowledge, and one’s free will) to the greatest possible extent, since these are abilities that will allow one to exercise true freedom. It follows, therefore, that wisdom and virtue are the greatest possessions that an individual can attain, an affirmation that has been inherent in general practical terms in expressions such as “it’s more important to be than to have” and “to have in order to be”
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
Get PDFWe conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
